KATRINA SLACK

My practice is motivated by my love of the natural world and the diversity of creatures that inhabit it. As these environments and animals become scarcer I feel an increasing sense of loss and isolation which I express in my artwork. As a woman reaching the time of life when your body starts to age, I sometimes feel that I am fading away and becoming invisible. My art is my way of keeping myself visible to world around me, to maintain a presence... I paint in a range of mediums and work in 3D. I collect materials washed up on the shoreline and make sculptures from wire and fishing line; plastics; whatever I can find and within this work and my paintings I am able to express my concerns about environmental degradation.
