Lancashire artist Stephen James Cross BSc continues to maintain his life long participation in the study and practise of the visual arts as a painter of dramatic landscapes, emotional portraits and fascinating figurative studies. Having Studied fine art at Blackburn School of Art & Design (a faculty of Blackburn Technical College, now Blackburn University) 1983 - 1985 he continued his studies at Bolton Institute of Higher Education (now Bolton University) studying graphic design specialising in illustration. Having worked in design studios throughout the north west of England in the role of graphic designer and photographer Stephen returned to education 2008 - 2011 attending Edgehill University graduating with a 2:1 BSc (hons) Secondary Education specialising in Design Technology with Qualified Teacher Status. In the development of his career as practising artist he continues to attended workshops, demonstrations, and seminars conducted by a wide range of artists. Valuing the importance of objective drawing as the fundamental skill of artistic expression, a skill in which he has invested daily through extensive recording in visual diaries and with attendance at life drawing sessions using the opportunity to experiment with methods and techniques he strives to break the boundaries of drawing habit with a fresh, new means of examination.
