At the end of World War ΙΙ, 40 Macleay Street was used by the Clergy of the Great Synagogue, who in 1958 erected a building to be used as residential flats, with shops on the ground floor... In 1960 Ambassador Hotels used the ground floor as a restaurant and the first floor as the manager's residence. Circa 1961, the existing building was erected and soon after operated as the Sheraton Marquee Hotel. The most memorable and impressive guests were The Beatles in June of 1964... 40 Macleay Street, Potts Point is a well maintained security building in the leafy heart of Macleay Street, convenient to the Challis Avenue and Macleay Street dining precincts. The building has a part time caretaker, is fire safety compliant and has had significant building improvements carried out including a refurbished entrance lobby in 2009.
