David Bayer

David has been active in the Kansas City Real Estate community for more than 30 years, and has negotiated leases on several million square feet of retail space. He has also closed several deals on large tracts of vacant land and directed all phases of development, acquisition, lease negotiations, city approvals, project financing and property management. He has extensive experience remodeling and repositioning shopping centers and enclosed malls. Some of David's other significant accomplishments include the planning, development and leasing of Benjamin Plaza, development of Metcalf Commons, and the acquisition of Heritage Square, Douglas Square and Wakarusa Crossroads. David has successfully leased all types of retail projects, from small neighborhood strip centers to enclosed regional malls. In 1999 David earned the Certified Leasing Specialist (CLS) designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In 2009, David earned the Senior Certified Leasing Specialist designation. David has served on the ICSC CLS committee, which promotes standard of conduct and continuing education throughout the industry. David was part of the group that created the current CLS examination and requirements. Earlier in his career David was associated with Copaken, White and Blitt, one of Kansas City's prominent development companies. Most notably, David served as Principal, Director of Retail Leasing and Managing Broker. David is currently a Principal and Managing Broker at KC Commercial Realty Group, and is involved in all aspects of leasing, marketing, property management and development. David is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a licensed Real Estate Broker in Kansas and Missouri.

Jennifer Lewis - COO

With more than two decades of extensive experience in city and office administration as well as contract oversight, Jennifer has been affiliated with both public and private entities including city facilities and public venues. Her background includes a variety of industries including freight and logistics, event management, catering, and broadcasting. Since 2014, Jenn has played a vital role in the daily operations of City Market in areas including income and expense management, tenant relations, property management, and contractor coordination. With her expert knowledge of city health codes and requirements, she has been instrumental in the management and recruitment of City Market's commissary kitchen, helping establish many fledgling restaurateurs and local culinary entrepreneurs. Jennifer's history and insight are primary assets for KC Commercial Realty Group as City Market Director of Operations where she manages daily operations including overseeing the property, processing work orders and contracts, facilities maintenance and improvements, housekeeping and support staff scheduling.

Justin Cottrell

In August of 2010, Justin joined KC Commercial Realty Group as a principal of the company. His primary responsibilities include retail and multifamily development, leasing and marketing retail space and property management assignments in the Kansas City area including the Historic City Market. He plays an active role in the daily operation of City Market overseeing property management, the farmers market, marketing, events and leasing. During his nine-year tenure with the property, he increased the occupancy rate to 98%, making it profitable for the first time in many years. A past board member of the National Association of Produce Market Managers (NAPMM), a professional organization specializing in public markets with permanent infrastructure, Justin holds the Certified Market Manager designation. While a board member in 2017, City Market hosted the NAPMM national conference, and during his time with the organization, Justin has been a speaker at national conferences at renown markets including Seattle's Pike Place Market, Detroit's Eastern Market, San Francisco's Ferry Plaza Market, Downtown Market in Grand Rapids, Union Market in Washington DC and Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market. Additionally, he has participated in Project for Public Spaces (PPS) Public Market Conferences in both Barcelona, Spain, and London, England.

Paula Stocker

Paula's fascination for locally-sourced food began when she was just a child shopping farmers markets with her mother and grandmother. In adulthood, having lived in California's ag-focused Bay Area as well as exploring and studying markets throughout Europe and Morocco, she found the fascination instilled in her early years had grown into a passion for food systems and enabling the vital role they play in the physical and overall health of every community. She translated her passion into a professional tenure with Whole Foods Market for more than 20 years. In her role with KC Commercial Realty Group as Farmers Market Manager, she remains focused on seeking out local food producers and cultivating partnerships to bring the highest quality products to the market. She is also versed in and dedicated to working with state and local health departments to ensure the highest standards in food safety among City Market vendors. She oversees all aspects of the Farmers Market and is responsible for vendor recruitment and curation, farm site visits, vendor contracts, collections, licensing & permitting, and the administration of food assistance programs. "We are blessed to live in an area with such a vibrant diverse food culture," Paula says. "It is critical that we support local growers and respect the magnificent heritage of our region while nurturing the next generation of local producers." Paula holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Houston. She volunteers at the KC Farm School at Gibbs Road whenever possible.

Sue Patterson

As Director of Marketing & Communications, Sue Patterson is responsible for the overall strategy, planning and execution of marketing programs, advertising, promotions, ongoing activities, public events and live performances for the City Market. In addition to developing marketing collateral, Sue generates content for thecitymarket.org, publishes e-newsletters, manages a large database and coordinates social media messaging. She also prepares and distributes media releases to promote events, tenant announcements, sales performance and other City Market news. Her other areas of focus include: Creating and implementing strategies to increase City Market traffic Planning and monitoring media buys Negotiating promotional and media contracts Managing existing sponsorships and seeking new sponsorship opportunities and relationships Sourcing, writing, and submitting grants applicable to the property Implementing awarded grants and fulfilling related documentation and financial reporting Overseeing the use of the Farm To Table Kitchen for special event rentals and educational programs Managing the marketing and events budget Supervising contracted vendors, promoters and support staff for public events and concerts.Suehas more than 25 years of experience as an award-winning marketing communications professional and entrepreneur in Kansas City. Her multifaceted background includes brand management, media relations, advertising, corporate communications, print journalism, broadcast news, public affairs and children's educational television.Throughout her career, Sue has worked for organizations ranging in size from small privately-owned businesses to enterprise-level publicly-traded companies. She has collaborated with C-level executives and helped clients in a variety of industries reach their communication objectives by developing and executing marketing campaigns, consumer messaging, corporate initiatives and community relations programs.She's also been a familiar face with local television audiences over the years. Most recently, she hosted KCPT's Imagine KC, a public affairs series focused on creating a more vibrant, connected and green Kansas City region. She also shared parenting tips and advice as a reporter for KMBC 9 News', Practical Parenting, and encouraged children's curiosity as the producer and host of KSHB's 41 Fox Kids Club.Sue experienced success as an entrepreneur in the fitness industry as the owner and director of a popular boutique yoga studio in Prairie Village, Kansas. This venture provided her with tremendous business, marketing and customer insight.She is the recipient of an International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Bronze Quill Award, three National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences "Emmy" Awards, two National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Service to Children Awards, a FOX Children's Network Award and a Missouri Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Service Award.Sue holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas.

Virginia Sims

Virginia began her career in the shopping center industry in 1974 at Copaken White & Blitt's corporate office. In her 34 years there she was responsible for numerous things within the operation including being the Executive Assistant to company owners Irwin Blitt, Lew White and Paul Copaken. During this time she assisted and coordinated the development of several major enclosed regional malls including Rockaway Town Square, Oak Park Mall, Hickory Point Mall, Bannister Mall and also assisted the principals with ICSC functions around the United States. She served as Office Manager of the company for many years handling day to day responsibilities, travel arrangements and tasked with running an efficient and profitable office. In 1991, she joined the Office Leasing team as Administrative Assistant where she assisted the leasing representatives in all aspects of support including dealing with Landlord attorneys, architects and construction managers as well as tenants. She also managed lease plans for over 2 million square feet of high rise and low rise office buildings. In August 2008, Virginia retired from Copaken, White & Blitt after 34 years of service. In June, 2011 Virginia joined KC Commercial Realty Group as Office Manager. Her day to day responsibilities include managing the operations of the office, coordinating property management issues, processing invoices, paying bills and assisting the principals of KC Commercial Realty Group.
