Ann is the Vice Chair of the Monroe County Hospital & Clinics Board of Trustees. Ann lives in rural Albia and retired as a corporate tax accountant in 2021. She volunteers with both VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and at our SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) office. Ann has been a Trustee since 2017.

Bryce Sunderman

Prior Experience Bryce worked at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines as an ARNP in the Trauma Center managing complex trauma patients in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Medical-Surgical floor. Prior to that, he has over six years in nursing working at MercyOne in Des Moines and West Des Moines in Emergency Services and Cardiac/Telemetry. He received his Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University, his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Graceland University, and his Associates of Science in Nursing from Iowa Western Community College.

Christian Schultheis

Dr. Schultheis graduated from Loras College with a BS degree in Biology research and a minor in Biochemistry. He went to American University of the Caribbean Medical School, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1997-2000 and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO from 2000-2003. He joined Mission Cancer + Blood in August 2017.

Greg Moore is the Owner and Audiologist of the Moore Hearing Clinic. He graduated from the University Iowa in 1976 with an MA in Audiology. In 2005, he received an Au.D. in Audiology from Salus University, in Pennsylvania. Has been in private practice at the Moore Hearing Clinic since 1987, and prior to that, he was the audiologist for Dr. William McMillan and the Southern Prairie AEA. Greg was recently named the top hearing aid dispenser in the state of Iowa and is serving his third term on the Iowa Hearing Aid Dispenser Licensure Board.

Matthew Brown

Dr. Brown is a board-certified ENT specializing in medical and surgical treatment of ear, nose, and throat disorders. He specializes in all areas of general otolaryngology which includes pediatric, sinus, allergy, head and neck surgery, and advanced training in allergic ear, nose, and throat disorders. Dr. Brown completed medical school at University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City, Iowa. His residency was completed at Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency, Phoenix, Arizona (general surgery), University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa (otolaryngology head and neck surgery). Dr. Brown is board-certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

Michael A. Gainer

Dr. Gainer is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Iowa Ortho, specializing in the treatment of hand and upper extremity disorders. Dr. Gainer is originally from Belleville, Illinois and has been practicing medicine since 2003. He was the Chief Resident at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine from 1999-2000. He holds subspecialty certification in hand surgery and holds membership in several medical societies. In his free time, Dr. Gainer enjoys golfing, watching Cardinals baseball and spending time with his family.

She then attended Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Prior to coming to Monroe County Hospital & Clinics, Dr. Preston served as a physician in the emergency departments at MercyOne Des Moines, MercyOne West Lakes, and MercyOne Newton. She has also worked shifts at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City and MercyOne Centerville, thus making her familiar with both large and small emergency departments.

Paul Conte

Paul's professional experiences began in 1987 when he graduated cum laude with a BA/BS in Chemistry from the University of Oregon (OHSU). Following graduation, he began a career as a synthetic organic chemist at Epitope in Portland, Oregon. Part of his work included formulation of new methylthoribose compounds, which led to joint work with Smith Kline Beacham (now Glaxo Smith Kline). He subsequently went back to medical school, again graduating cum laude from OHSU. Following residency and fellowship at UW Madison, Dr. Conte has been in full-time practice of clinical medicine since 2001. He has had an active and thriving practice in the field of general and thoracic surgery. In 2002, Dr. Conte pioneered the use of the Da Vinci surgical robot in Iowa, first using the system at Iowa Methodist Medical Center to perform an esophageal surgery. In 2003, he was named teacher of the year at Iowa Methodist Medical center's residency program, an award he was again nominated for in subsequent years. In 2004, Dr. Conte expanded his surgical practice and began an office in West Des Moines. As part of this expansion, he began an association with two rural hospitals and expanded their surgical operations and service lines. Dr. Conte's interest in telemedicine was first piqued at this point, and he began to formulate its usefulness in clinical medicine. At this time, he also developed an interest in the intersection of medicine and law, and began to regularly review cases, including complex workers compensation cases, causation review, and expert witness cases. In 2007, Dr. Conte's private practice was acquired by a consortium of the Iowa Health System and two rural hospitals. Subsequently, he has continued in the same type of practice scope, but has expanded the use of telemedicine, conducting regular rural clinics utilizing video telemedicine to expand surgical coverage and follow-up. Telemedicine has the potential to change the whole delivery of health care in the U.S., especially primary care and remote specialty care. Tim Mayfield

Tim was raised in Cape Girardeau, in southeast Missouri. He completed both medical school and general surgery residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Tim sought further training in advanced laparoscopic surgery in Shawnee Mission, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. After completing his fellowship in 2011, he and his wife Emily moved to West Des Moines to be closer to family. He has become a trusted surgeon in central Iowa, serving the Des Moines metro area as well as surrounding communities. "I enjoy talking with people and making a connection with them. We discuss how a problem has been negatively impacting their life. Then we talk about how I can partner with them to determine the best course of action for each individual, whether that is a surgical or non-surgical treatment.
