Akosua Nti, MD is a vitreoretinal surgeon at NJRetina. After completing her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, she earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as a Willis Scholar. Dr. Nti completed her residency in ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, followed by a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Dr. Nti has held faculty appointments, serving as an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and Assistant of Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Nti has received numerous honors and awards including the Willis Scholar Award, the National Heart Lung Blood Institute Short Term Research Award, and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Travel Grant. Cesar Alfaro

Dr. Alfaro is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist, and vitreo-retinal surgeon at NJRetina. Born in El Salvador, he spent his childhood years in New Jersey and attended Rutgers University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Music. He received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Alfaro completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He subsequently pursued and completed a two-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery at the prestigious Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Alfaro has authored many papers in peer reviewed journals including The American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, and Journal of Glaucoma. He has presented at national and regional conferences. He has been involved in various multi-center clinical trials as a sub-investigator including the GUARD trial and OcuTerra DR:EAM trial. As a member of organizations that help under-represented individuals enter medicine such as the Latino Medical Student Association, Office for Diversity and Academic Success in the Sciences, and Premedical Urban Leaders Summer Enrichment Program, he has had the opportunity to guide pre-medical students embark on their medical journey. Dr. Alexander D. Port

Dr. Alexander D. Port joined NJ Retina in 2020. Originally from Toms River, New Jersey, Dr. Port completed his Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Columbia University in New York City. Dr. Port then obtained his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Port discovered his love of ophthalmology doing volunteer community vision screenings as a medical student and continued to volunteer and supervise medical student screeners throughout his residency. Dr. Port completed a preliminary internship in internal medicine at New York University before returning to Weill Cornell for his ophthalmology residency where he served as Chief Resident during his senior year. He then completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Boston University and the Boston VA Medical Center, serving as a clinical instructor to residents and medical students. Dr. Port has presented numerous abstracts at national meetings and has published articles on a variety of topics including vitrectomy surgery, cytomegalovirus retinitis, endophthalmitis, retinopathy of prematurity, and quality of life in aging. Dr. Bruce J. Keyser joined NJRetina in 1996. Dr. Keyser received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, graduating cum laude with high distinction. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he was the recipient of a Jefferson Research Scholarship, a National Institute of Health Levine Research Grant, and a Measy Academic Scholarship. Dr. Daniel B. Roth joined NJRetina in 2000. Dr. Roth graduated from Yeshiva University in New York City, where he was valedictorian. He received his MD from the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Roth completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. He was accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received awards by the Fight for Sight Research Foundation, Howard Hughes Research Institute, American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Roth completed his fellowship training in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Roth is a Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Kim completed his residency in ophthalmology at New York Hospital / Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where he served as Co-Chief Resident. He completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Harvard Medical School in Boston. He received several national honors including the Heed Ophthalmic Fellowship Award and the Paul Kayser International Fellowship Award. While at Harvard University, he was elected by the faculty to serve as Chief Retina Fellow. Dr. Kim has a strong interest in global health having served on medical teams to Siberia, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua and has been awarded several scholarships and grants to increase healthcare access to underserved areas. Dr. Kim also maintains a strong interest in research and education having published over 20 articles in the peer-reviewed literature, 2 book chapters, and numerous abstracts. Dr. Eric S. Friedman joined NJRetina in 1995. Dr. Friedman earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and attended the Brown/Dartmouth Program in Medicine, receiving his MD from the Brown University School of Medicine. Following a foreign study fellowship at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, Dr. Friedman completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then studied vitreoretinal disease and surgery and was selected Chief Fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he completed his fellowship training. Dr. Friedman is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is on the medical staff of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Jennifer M. Krawitz

Dr. Jennifer M. Krawitz, a native of Delaware, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Delaware Honors Program. She was awarded the Dr. Wilbur Posteles' Scholarship at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, where she received her Medical Doctorate (M.D.) with cum laude honors. While at Jefferson, she received the Lavine Research Award and the National Institute of Health‘s Heart, Lung, and Blood Research Award. Dr. Krawitz completed her ophthalmology resident training at Temple University, where she served as chief resident during her senior year. She then completed a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the Wills Eye Institute, one of the premier eye hospitals in the country. She remained on staff at the hospital before completing a second fellowship in medical retina at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Dr. Krawitz has participated in national meetings and published extensively on topics such as orbital fractures, ethambutol toxicity, biosimilars, and biologics. Dr. Jonathan L. Prenner

Dr. Jonathan L. Prenner is a nationally recognized retinal specialist. He holds a number of leadership positions in the field of vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Prenner is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he serves as Clinical Professor. He is also the Ophthalmology service chief of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. At Rutgers he has taught and mentored dozens of students over the past two decades who have subsequently become ophthalmologists and retina specialists. For the past fifteen years, he has held the positions of Assistant Editor and Review Article Section Editor for the standard scientific journal for the field, RETINA: The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases. Dr. Prenner served on the board of directors and executive committee of the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS) for more than a decade. Since 2008, he has been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America and is listed as a best doctor by U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly, as well as New York Magazine. He has been elected to the Retina Hall of Fame and the OSN 150. Dr. Leonard Feiner

Dr. Leonard Feiner returned to his home state of New Jersey and joined NJRetina in 2006 as a Retina Specialist. Dr. Feiner graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. After deciding that medicine was his calling, he was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health to support his studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he received his MD and a PhD in neuroscience. Dr. Feiner joined the ophthalmology residency training program at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chief resident, followed by a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery and ocular oncology at the Barnes Retina Institute, Washington University, St. Louis. Dr. Feiner has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for excellence in ophthalmological research, receiving the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology Resident Award, Ronald G. Michels Foundation Fellowship, and Heed Foundation Fellowship. Dr. Feiner is on the medical staff of Clara Maass Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Nneka O. Brooks

Dr. Nneka O. Brooks joined NJRetina in 2018. Born in Nigeria, she spent her formative years in New Jersey and obtained her undergraduate degree from Princeton University. She was awarded her medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City and there discovered a love for ophthalmology. Dr. Brooks completed her residency training at Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School. During her residency, she received the prestigious Alfonse A. Cinotti Resident Award for her excellence in academic and professional achievements during training. Dr. Brooks then went on to complete a two-year vitreoretinal fellowship at the Lahey Clinic and Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts. Following her training and prior to joining NJRetina, Dr. Brooks was in private practice in New York City. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists Dr. Brooks is also passionate about teaching and mentoring. She has been an avid teacher of medical students and residents throughout her career. In addition, Dr. Brooks is a founding member of the Dr. David K. McDonogh Scholarship, a program dedicated to supporting medical students from minority backgrounds in their pursuit of training in the fields of Ophthalmology and ENT. Dr. Brooks has been involved with numerous multi-center clinical trials studying macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and uveitis. She has published and presented at national meetings on various topics in ophthalmology, including retinoblastoma, side effects of anti-VegF medications and neovascular glaucoma. Dr. Sumit P. Shah

Dr. Sumit P. Shah joined NJRetina in 2013. Dr. Shah, a native of New Jersey, received his degree in Chemical Biology from the Stevens Institute of Technology, where he graduated Valedictorian. He earned his MD degree on a full academic scholarship from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for exceptional academic performance. Dr. Shah completed his residency in ophthalmology at UCLA‘s Jules Stein Eye Institute, which consistently ranks among the top five eye institutes nationwide. He completed his two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship at the Tufts New England Eye Center and the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, which are among the leading retina research and clinical trials center in the country, respectively. Dr. Shah has lectured at national meetings of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and the Retina Society. He has authored numerous scientific articles on a broad array of topics including submacular hemorrhages from age-related macular degeneration, ultrawide-field imaging, advanced intraocular lens implantation techniques, anti-VEGF therapy for wet macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, endophthalmitis after pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment, optical coherence tomography, cystoid macular edema and advances in macular hole surgery. Dr. Wheatley has researched, published, and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, intraocular injections, intraocular lens fixation techniques, retinal detachment, AIDS-related eye disease, macular hole, macular pucker and myopic degeneration. He has been a Principal Investigator in the nationwide Vitrase for Vitreous Hemorrhage Study. When he is not working, Dr. Wheatley enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.

Jonathan "Yoni" Levenson

He also has a special interest in diagnosing and managing intraocular tumors, including performing plaque brachytherapy to treat ocular melanoma. Dr. Chinskey graduated with honors in research and in clinical skills and the art of medicine, given to the top 10% of students based on clinical performance. He then completed a two-year fellowship in medical and surgical retina at The Retina Institute (formerly Barnes Retina Institute) in St. Louis, Missouri-one of the premier training programs in the country.
