The history of the Southwest Florida Enterprise Center (SWFEC), formerly the Business Development Center, goes back to initiatives and efforts over 20 years ago to promote business development and entrepreneurial opportunities in the City of Fort Myers... The City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin was created as a Works Project Administration Goal in 1936, to provide employee opportunities after the Great Depression and to provide a safe haven/public access for area boaters in Fort Myers. The Yacht Basin has been in continuous operation since its completion in 1939, meeting the needs of generations of boaters as they spend time in the City of Fort Myers... Fort Myers Community Development Department's mission is "Dedicated to serving the community with professionalism, integrity and compassion."
