Mei-Ling was born and raised in Oklahoma, graduating from Harvard University with honors in 1990. She then went on to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where she graduated with her medical degree before completing her training in Internal Medicine at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1997. Following residency, she joined the Department of General Internal Medicine at UCSF before entering into private practice in Marin county. In 2004, she relocated her practice to San Francisco to join her identical twin sister, Mei-Lai Lucas, M.D. Most recently, in 2008, she created a concierge style medical practice, Gemini Healthcare, Inc.
