ALFALFA EXPRESS

I started Alfalfa Express in 2009 after returning home from a church mission to Dallas TX. While I was in Texas I learned they ship most of their hay from the west, and I was often asked whether I had any connections for Alfalfa Hay. Because I grew up riding horses and around farming, I did. After I returned from my mission, along with a companion, we started Alfalfa Express. Our vision was to vertically integrate the process, starting with growing alfalfa, shipping it, and finally wholesaling and retailing the hay. We started by brokering everything, we bought hay from a local farm, brokered a truck to haul it, and sold it to a customer direct. In 2010 we purchased our first over the road semi-truck and started doing some of the hauling ourselves... ​ In 2012, we had an opportunity to co-lease a farm, which we did for 2 years until the opportunity came along to purchase a farm with an investor in 2014.
