Frances E. Schrotter - COO, SVP

Frances E. Schrotter is senior vice president and chief operating officer at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In this position, she has primary responsibility for the Institute's activities supporting and facilitating the participation of U.S. interests in domestic, regional, and international standardization activities. She works with the ANSI constituency and other affected interests to identify the need for new standardization programs and works with these groups to facilitate their timely implementation. Her role encompasses management of the ANSI administrative operations, including membership, communications, education and training services, and human resources. Ms. Schrotter is also actively involved with the work of the Institute's various collaboratives and panels, including the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative (UASSC), the America Makes & ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC), and the Nanotechnology Standards Panel (NSP). Ms. Schrotter, who first joined ANSI in 1976, has worked with numerous domestic and international committees developing standards in dozens of industries. She spent many years in the information technology standards arena, and served as the first international secretariat of the ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1 on Information Technology. Ms. Schrotter was born and raised in New York City.

George A. Gulla - SVP

George A. Gulla is senior vice president of publications sales and membership at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In this position, Mr. Gulla is responsible for establishing and implementing ANSI's strategic and operational goals for sales and revenue growth through product diversification in areas such as publications sales, subscriptions, and membership. He is also sharply focused on the development of relationships that will align the Institute with applicable regional and world-wide sales and marketing initiatives. A career professional in the development and delivery of information services for industry, government, academia and consumers, Mr. Gulla's skills and expertise span across financial and investment services to more consumer-focused Internet-based initiatives. He joins ANSI after more than 15-years with Standard & Poor's, where he held positions such as vice president and general manager, reference market services; vice president of investment research services; senior director of retail and individual investor services; and director of ratings information services.

Jason Stine - VP

Jason Stine is ANAB's Vice President of Inspection, Laboratories and related activities. Stine represents ANAB nationally and internationally with APAC, IAAC, ILAC, and NACLA. He is a qualified ISO/IEC 17011 APAC lead evaluator and regularly participates on evaluation teams performing international evaluations of accreditation bodies worldwide.

Joseph Tretler Jr. is the American National Standards Institute's Senior Vice President for International Policy. Mr. Tretler assumed this role in 2014, where he is responsible for leading ANSI's policy coordination and liaison activities related to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), the European Organization for Testing and Certification (EOTC), the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC), and the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), as well as their national member bodies and other relevant groups. He is also responsible for liaising with U.S. government agencies, such as the Department of Commerce (DoC)'s International Trade Administration (ITA) and National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), as well as associations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). Mr. Tretler joined ANSI in 1985 as a program administrator for the Institute's standards technology department. He became ANSI's program director, international, in 1989 and was promoted to information technology business director in 1996, overseeing implementation of processes and systems related to an organization-wide business process redesign. Beginning in 1998, Mr. Tretler served as ANSI's senior director, international technical programs and services, managing ANSI's coordination efforts related to U.S. participation in the ISO standardization activities, overseeing ANSI's ISO outreach and enhanced services program, and leading ANSI's ISO Team (ISOT), among other responsibilities. He received his bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University.

Lori Gillespie

Lori Gillespie is ANAB's Vice President, Management Systems, Validation and Verification, Product Certification. She has been with ANAB since 1998 and previously served as ANAB's Director of Accreditation, Management Systems. Lori is currently serving as the IAF Vice Chair.

Margaret (Peggy) Jensen

Peggy Jensen, CPA, is senior vice president of finance, administration and chief financial officer at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Ms. Jensen is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the finance, accounting and administration departments as well as for direct communications and interaction with the Institute's Finance Committee. She assists the President in managing ANSI's financial and administrative functions including objectives, policies and procedures, preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, long-term financial planning and the maintenance and investment of funds and assets. Ms. Jensen has more than twenty-five years of experience managing financial and operational functions for not-for-profit organizations and corporations. She joined ANSI from the Museum of the City of New York where she served as the chief financial officer and vice president of finance and administration; she held a similar post for nearly twelve years at the Aperture Foundation, Inc., a non-profit publisher of fine photography. Ms. Jensen was also a former vice president and director of Shearson Lehman Hutton, Inc., a former vice president and manager at Merrill Lynch & Co, Inc., and a former senior audit manager at Ernst & Young. Ms. Jensen earned her MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and subsequently received her Certificate in Professional Accountancy, with honors, from the Northwestern University Graduate School of Business. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barnard College. In addition to being a CPA, she is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor and a Certified Internal Auditor. Her professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs.

Mary Saunders

Mary Saunders is Senior Vice President, Government Relations and Public Policy, at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In this position, Ms. Saunders serves as ANSI's spokesperson and liaison to federal, state, and local government agencies and to Congress and congressional staff. She supports the activities of the ANSI National Policy Advisory Group (NPAG) and the ANSI Government Member Forum, working with the members of these groups to develop and advance the Institute's positions and policies at all levels of government. In turn, she identifies and communicates to ANSI stakeholders emerging issues of importance for the standards and conformity assessment community. Prior to joining ANSI in 2017, Ms. Saunders was the associate director for management resources for the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and served as a vice chair on the ANSI Board of Directors. She was responsible for all NIST-wide institutional support and administrative offices and their functions, including: workforce management, information technology and services, safety and environmental management, facilities maintenance and construction, accounting and finance, acquisitions and grants management, budget formulation, strategic planning, and emergency response. Ms. Saunders previously served as the director of NIST's Standards Coordination Office. In this capacity, she represented NIST and its significant interests in the standards and conformity assessment community, advising the NIST director and other officials throughout the administration on policy and strategy as they relate to the federal government's role in standardization. She also served as deputy assistant secretary for manufacturing and services in the International Trade Administration (ITA), managing more than 200 industry specialists, economists, and international trade experts. In that capacity, she helped strengthen the competitive position of U.S. industries globally by coordinating Commerce Department strategies, policies, and programs with U.S. industries in mind.

Michael A. Petosa

Michael A. Petosa is Senior Vice President of Information Technology at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). He provides leadership for the development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment at ANSI. He is responsible for a broad range of strategic technology issues, IT governance and policy, resources and budget, delivery of IT services and infrastructure, information security, enterprise and cloud solutions, and end-user support. Mr. Petosa joined ANSI in 2004 as director of information technology, bringing with him 23 years of experience in systems design, engineering, and business management, and in 2008 he was named vice president of information technology. Prior to his arrival at ANSI, Mr. Petosa was chief technical officer at Pencom Systems, Inc., and director of management information systems at Career Blazers. Earlier in his career, he was an electrical engineer at Bell Laboratories where he designed microprocessor based communication terminals, a systems engineer at AT&T Information Systems where he designed large scale communication systems for commercial use, and a senior partner and vice president of a privately held wholesale distribution firm in New York City. He is an active member of the Information Technology Strategy Advisory Group (ITSAG), an advisory group to the ISO council, and is an active participant in the "ISO Open Source software development framework" (ISOurce) representing the United States. Mr. Petosa also sits on the Advisory Board of the DeMatteis School of Engineering & Applied Science at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, and he is a member of the Martinsburg College IT Advisory Council in Martinsburg, WV. Mr. Petosa holds both a bachelor of science and a master of science degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York.

Patricia A. Griffin - Chief Legal Officer, SVP

Patricia A. Griffin is senior vice president and general counsel at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In this position, Ms. Griffin serves as ANSI's chief legal, ethics, and corporate governance officer and oversees all legal affairs of ANSI and its affiliates, the ANSI National Accreditation Board, LLC (ANAB) and Workcred, Inc. She provides counsel to all of ANSI's program-oversight committees, including those groups responsible for ANSI's domestic standards and conformity assessment accreditation programs. Ms. Griffin joined ANSI in 2004 after nearly 20 years in private practice. At ANSI, she is responsible for providing the Institute with guidance and counsel on a wide range of matters, including litigation, HR, antitrust, contracts, GDPR, OFAC, as well as patent, trademark, and copyright issues. During her 18 years at ANSI, Ms. Griffin has been involved in all aspects of the Institute's legal affairs. She is also responsible for providing guidance and counsel to the ANSI Intellectual Property Policy Advisory Group, including its various task forces and working groups. Ms. Griffin came to ANSI from the New York City office of King & Spalding where five of her ten years were spent as a litigation partner. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School in 1985 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. She also served as a contributing author to, and as executive editor of, the Albany Law Review. Ms. Griffin is admitted to practice in New York; New York State Courts; and the U.S. District Court, Southern District, New York.

S. Joe Bhatia began his tenure as president and chief executive officer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on January 1, 2006. Prior to joining ANSI, Mr. Bhatia held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer of the international group at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL). During his tenure with the organization Mr. Bhatia assumed positions of progressive leadership in global business operations. His areas of responsibility included engineering, governmental and congressional liaisons, external affairs, follow-up (certification) services, and direction of UL's $300+ million international operations. Mr. Bhatia served two terms as president of the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), from 2013 to 2017, and previously served as COPANT vice president for four years. He also serves as vice chairman of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Standards and Technical Trade Barriers (ITAC 16), a joint program of the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Credential Engine, and a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Council and its Standing Committee on Strategies. Recently retired as a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Board of Directors, Mr. Bhatia holds a seat on the Oakton Community College Education Foundation Board. In addition to his numerous professional affiliations, he is a frequent lecturer in the U.S. and around the world on topics such as international trade, technical developments, commercial market access, and health, safety, and environmental concerns. Mr. Bhatia holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and a master of science in business management. He and his wife, Punita, have two sons and one grandson.
