Dr. Peter Hofmann

Postdoctoral Researcher peter.hofmann@fim-rc.de +49 173 8585991 : 3.16, Wittelsbacherring 10, 95444 Bayreuth Dr. Peter Hofmann is a postdoctoral researcher at the Research Center Finance & Information Management (FIM) as well as part of the Branch Business and Information Systems Engineering of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). Besides co-leading a research group, he is the founder and director of the AI Lab. He received his doctorate (summa cum laude) from the University of Bayreuth with a dissertation on the design and management of AI-enabled information systems. Previously, he studied Business Administration (B.Sc. und M.Sc.) at the University of Bayreuth. Within his research, Peter primarily focuses on the design and management of AI-enabled information systems. In doing so, he primarily investigates socio-technical issues in the field of human-AI interaction and AI applications' organizational integration. Besides contributing novel theoretical perspectives, he provides knowledge and methods to solve relevant practical problems. Peter regularly publishes his research in relevant scientific journals (e.g., Electronic Markets, Technological Forecasting and Social Change) and conference proceedings (e.g., ICIS, ECIS). In addition, he is engaged in the scientific community as an associate editor and reviewer for multiple journals and conferences. Peter has gained practical experience by managing and conducting publicly and privately funded research projects as a research assistant and in preceding internships. As a PostDoc, he continues to be involved in various projects that foster the knowledge exchange between research and industry. He has also gained extensive teaching experience in tutorials, lectures, seminars, and the Digital Leadership Academy.

Prof. Dr. Gilbert Fridgen - Chairman

adjunct professor of the Research Center gilbert.fridgen@uni.lu Prof. Dr. Gilbert Fridgen is PayPal-FNR PEARL Chair in Digital Financial Services at the SnT, the Interdisciplinary Center for Security, Reliability and Trust at the University of Luxembourg. As head of the Financial Services and Interorganizational Digital Transformations Research Group (FINATRAX), he analyzes the transformative effects of digital technologies on individual organizations as well on the relationship between organizations. He thereby especially addresses potentially disruptive technologies like Blockchain/DLT, Artificial Intelligence, Internet-of-Things, or Quantum Computing. His research involves innovative business models, regulatory compliance (RegTech), IT strategy and (risk) management, IT capabilities and performance, as well as the design of innovative solutions. In his projects and partnerships, he collaborates with various industries, like financial services (FinTech), energy, mobility, manufacturing, consulting, as well as with public bodies (LegalTech). Prof. Fridgen frequently publishes in academic journals and conference proceedings in management, computer science, and engineering, as well in outlets at the intersection of these disciplines. He was nominated and received best paper awards at internationally recognized conferences. He edited conference proceedings of the most important German, European and International Conferences of Information Systems. He is an active reviewer for various academic journals. He regularly speaks at business-related conferences and gives interviews to media outlets. He served as an expert for multiple governmental bodies, such as the German Bundestag and altogether 6 German Federal Ministries as well as for the European Commission with its European Blockchain Partnership and European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) and in the Academic Advisory Board of the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA). Prof. Fridgen received his Diploma in Managerial Economics from the University of Augsburg in 2005, with majors in Financial Engineering, Information Systems, and Strategy & Organization. In parallel, he finished a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Electronic Commerce. He did his doctoral degree at the Research Center Finance & Information Management and finished in 2010. From 2011 to 2013 he was deputy Professor for Business Engineering, especially Finance, Operations & Information Management at the University of Augsburg. From 2013 to 2019, he was appointed Associate Professor for Information Systems and Sustainable IT Management at the University of Bayreuth, Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Project Group Business & Information Systems Engineering, and Deputy Director of the Research Center Finance & Information Management. Today, he is still Adjunct Professor with the Research Center Finance & Information Management and collaborates closely with the Fraunhofer Project Group Business & Information Systems Engineering.

Nils Urbach studierte von 2000 bis 2004 Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Paderborn, an der er 2004 seinen Abschluss als Diplom-Wirtschaftsinformatiker machte. Anschließend war er von 2004 bis 2006 als Unternehmensberater für Accenture in Frankfurt tätig und beriet in dieser Zeit vornehmlich Kunden aus der Finanzdienstleistungsbranche. Nach seinem Wechsel an die EBS Business School in Wiesbaden arbeitete er dort zunächst von 2006 bis 2010 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institute of Research on Information Systems, an dem er im Januar 2010 mit "summa cum laude" promoviert wurde (Erstgutachter Prof. Dr. Gerold Riempp, Zweitgutachterin Prof. Dr. Christine Legner). Im Anschluss daran war er von 2010 bis 2013 als Forschungsdirektor beschäftigt und leitete das Competence Center Strategisches IT-Management. Parallel war er während dieser Zeit als Managing Consultant bei Horváth & Partners in Frankfurt tätig und beriet für das Competence Center CIO & Project Advisory Kunden verschiedener Branchen. Von 2013 bis 2020 war Nils Urbach Inhaber der Professur für Wirtschaftsinformatik und Strategisches IT-Management an der Universität Bayreuth. Internationale Erfahrung sammelte Nils Urbach unter anderem während seiner Forschungsaufenthalte 2008 an der University of Pittsburgh (Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business) sowie 2012 an der Université de Lausanne (Hautes Etudes Commerciales). Prof. Dr. Nils Urbach is Professor of Information Systems and Strategic IT Management at the University of Bayreuth. Furthermore, he is deputy director of the Finance & Information Management (FIM) Research Center, engaged in a leading position at the Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering of the Fraunhofer In stitute for Applied Information Technology FIT as well as co-founder and director of the Fraunhofer Blockchain Lab. In research and teaching, Nils Urbach mainly addresses questions in the areas of digitalization and strategic IT management. In this context, his focus is on the investigation of adoption, usage and success of digital innovations and, based on this, the derivation of design recommendations as well as the analysis and design of solutions for managing IT organizations and digital organizational units. Recent research projects concentrate on digital transformation in the individual and organizational context. Here, he is concerned with both the technological drivers of digitalization (e.g., smart devices, blockchain, workplace technologies, cloud compu ting) and the implications on management (e.g., agile organizations, workplace of the future, IT management in the digital ages). In his research, he applies both empirical and design-oriented research methods as complementary approaches. Nils Urbach regularly publishes in international top journals such as the Journal of Information Technology (JIT)​, Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS), IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (IEEE TEM), Information and Management (I&M), Business & Information Systems Engineering (BISE), Journal of Information Technology Theory and Application (JITTA), Business Process Management Journal (BPM), and Journal of Economics and Business (JEB). Furthermore, he presents his research results at leading international conferences such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), Internationale Tagung Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI), and Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). Moreover, the published the books "IT-Management im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung", "IT Management in the Digital Age" and "Digitalization Cases". Among others, Nils Urbach was awarded with the Best Paper Award of the 25th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2017) for his research work. In the international information systems community, Nils Urbach is active ly involved as guest editor, track chair, associate editor, and reviewer. Among others, he has served as guest editor for MIS Quarterly Executive (MISQE) as well as the Business Process Management Journal (BPMJ). He has also been particularly engaged in the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), for which he has served as track chair on a regular basis since seve ral years. Furthermore, Nils Urbach is active in the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly Executive (MISQE) and Electronic Markets (EM). Moreover, he has acted as reviewer for several aca demic journals such as the European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), the Journal of Strateg ic Information Systems (JSIS), th e DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems and many more. Nils Urbach is strongly engaged in publicly and privately funded research projects, in which he aims to contribute to the solution of relevant business problems. In this context, he partners both with large corporation and with small and medium-sized companies. For example, he has already been collaborating with industry partners such as BAUR, Deutsche Bahn, HEINZ-GLAS, Horváth & Partners, Helaba, Hilti, infosys Consultung, it-economics, Freudenberg, medi, Nord/LB, NÜRNBERGER Lebensversicherung, PwC, RAPS, REHAU, Siemens, Union IT-Services, ZF Friedrichshafen, and Volkswagen. His publicly research projects were funded by the European Social Fund (ESE), the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMV), the Bavarian Research Foundation (BFS), the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy and Technology, as well as the Adalbert Raps Foundation, among others. As a popular speaker, Nils Urbach regularly gives talks for specialists and managers on various aspects of digitalization, strategic IT management, as well as blockchain technology and its application. To foster the transfer of research results into practice and to strengthen joint research activities with corporate partners, he has established the CIO Round Table in the Upper Franconian region. Furthermore, Nils Urbach is member of the expert advisory committee of the "Best of Consulting" competition of WirtschaftsWoche as well as head of the User Group "Governance, Risk, Compliance in IT" of SoftwareForen Leipzig. Between 2000 and 2004, Nils Urbach studied at University of Paderborn from which he received a diploma in business information systems in 2004. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2006, he worked as consultant with Accenture in Frankfurt, focused on clients in the financial service sector. After moving to EBS Business School in Wiesbaden, he started working as a research assistant at the Institute of Research on Information Systems where he received his doctorate in January 2010 graded "summa cum laude" (first supervisor Prof. Dr. Gerold Riempp, second supervisor Prof. Dr. Christine Legner). Subsequently, he held the position of an Assistant Professor where he was head of the Strategic IT Management Competence Center. Complementary to his academic work, he was Managing Consultant with Horváth & Partners in Frankfurt for the CIO & Project Advisory Competence Center. Nils Urbach gathered international experience during his research stays at the University of Pittsburgh (Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business) in 2008 and at Université de Lausanne (Hautes Etudes Commerciales) in 2012.

Prof. Dr. Robert Keller

Robert Keller is Professor for Information Management & Digitalization at the Faculty of Tourism Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten as well as Deputy Academic Director of the Research Center Finance & Information Management. He also works in a leading position in the Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering of Fraunhofer FIT. In research and teaching, Prof. Keller mainly focuses on IT management, applied data analysis and sustainability. Within this context, he is also involved in the association "Open District Hub e.V.". During his manifold activities in science and practice, Prof. Keller has already acquired and been responsible for various national and international applied research projects. In his research, Prof. Keller uses various methods, including data analysis as well as qualitative methods. He regularly publishes in internationally renowned journals and conferences and is an active reviewer for a number of renowned journals and conferences (e.g. Joule, Business Research, International Conference on Information Systems). Prof. Keller is also an Associate Editor for the European Conference on Information Systems and the International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik in 2020. Prior to his appointment at the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten, Prof. Keller worked as deputy department head at the Research Center Finance & Information Management as well as at Project Group Business & Information Systems Engineering at the Fraunhofer FIT at the universities of Augsburg and Bayreuth until 2020. While working as a research assistant, Prof. Keller received his doctorate with "summa cum laude" from the University of Bayreuth in 2019.
