With a history dating to 1774 when the Moravians of Salem began work on one of the nation's first water systems, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities provides high quality water, wastewater and solid waste services to approximately 381,000 residential, business and industrial users in its service area. The department is committed to responsible use of resources, reliable delivery and stewardship of the environment... Additionally, our staff provides staff support and administers applications to the Zoning Boards of Adjustment of Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, Clemmons, and Lewisville. Functions of the Zoning Boards of Adjustment include hearing requests for Special Use Permits, variances, appeals, and interpretations... Planning and Development Services is comprised of the Inspections and Planning divisions. It is a City of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County department administered by the City of Winston-Salem.
