This page is a place holder to share my interest in vintage style, relatively low power, tube based hifi amplifiers...
The primary focus will be on Dynaco's two smaller amplifiers; the ST35 stereo and SCA35 integrated units. First produced in 1963 and 1964 respectively, these amplifiers were available as either factory assembled units or DIY kits priced between $80 and $120 at the time. Both units were designed around the relatively sweet sounding EL84 power tube and are rated at 17.5 watts per channel, almost laughable today in a world of high power 7 to 9 channel receivers and amplifiers...
Despite being some 50 years old, and with modest power output, the smaller Dynaco amplifiers produce a wonderfully warm and musical sound that compliments today's modern digital music sources. In fact, Dynaco's musicality coupled with modern digital convenience are likely a combination 'greater than the sum of the parts', especially when the human voice is central to the music program.
