Andrew Matthews - Founder

Qualifications: BA (Hons), DipArch (Cantab), RIBA, RIAI, FRSA Andrew is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Sheffield and has previously taught at the Universities of Greenwich and Brighton. He is a member of the Haringey and Newham Design Review Panels and co-chair of the Design South East St Albans panel. Andrew is also an Academician at the Academy of Urbanism and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Annabel Pearson

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design Annabel joined the practice in 2015 as Communications Manager and was promoted to an Associate in 2018. She leads on marketing and communications within the studio as well as overseeing the website, social platforms, award submissions and press activity. Annabel completed her Bachelors degree in Graphic and Media Design at the University of the Arts, London College of Communication before gaining experience in procurement at John McAslan + Partners. With her excellent eye for detail, she oversees the direction of the practice's branding and graphic identity, the design of publications and exhibition graphics.

Catherine Tucknutt

Qualifications: BSc (Hons), MArch, ARB Catherine is a Senior Associate working on large scale masterplanning and regeneration projects. She began her architectural training at Cardiff University before completing her studies with distinction from the University of Sheffield, where she was awarded a prize for environmental design. She joined the practice in 2013 and has since played a key role in the delivery of award winning projects including Abode at Great Kneighton in Cambridge. Recent work includes preparing an overall masterplan (including detailed designs for the first phase) for the regeneration of South Thamesmead. The masterplan focussed on the delivery of thousands of new homes and jobs over the next ten years. Currently Catherine is leading the Riverside Sunderland team preparing a collaborative masterplan design that will reinvent the city centre and create 1,000 new homes, workspace and community facilities. Catherine is an intrepid explorer of the world and enjoys rock climbing, cycling and skiing.

Christine Lifford

Qualifications: Affiliate Member of IOSH Christine is a Director and Office Manager of Proctor and Matthews Architects. She has worked at the practice since 1998. Christine oversees all administrative, HR and finance functions of the practice, together with co-ordinating the practice's health and safety policy. She works closely with other senior members of the team on the resourcing and management of projects. Christine has over 25 years experience working in the property development sphere. She was PA to Reg Ward, the first Chief Executive at the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC), in the late 1980's and continued working for him as his Office Manager when he became a consultant to a number of large developers within the UK and overseas on his retirement from the LDDC.

Coral McGarrigle

Coral studied architecture at De Montfort University, Kent Institute of Art and Design and the University of Westminster. After graduating she worked for a London based practice specialising in healthcare and aviation before joining Proctor & Matthews in 2006. Following several years at the practice Coral spent four years working at Gruff Architects, focussing primarily on private residential schemes. Since returning to Proctor & Matthews in 2019 Coral has become a Senior Associate. Coral was the Lead Project Architect preparing the planning submission for Steepleton Tetbury, a Later Living Community in the Cotswolds for developer PegasusLife. The scheme won the HAPPI Award at the 2019 Housing Design Awards. She also played a key role in the technical design stage of RIBA Award winning Abode at Great Kneighton. Currently Coral is Lead Project Architect for a new neighbourhood of 25 homes on the edge of Abbotts Ann in Hampshire.

Georgina Bignold

Qualifications: BA (Hons), DipArch, MA Arch, RIBA Georgina is a Director of Proctor and Matthews Architects overseeing large scale residential and placemaking projects. She studied at the University of Westminster before joining the practice in 1999. Georgina is currently a member of the Ebbsfleet Garden City Design Forum, Design South East's Canterbury Design Review Panel and the Greater Cambridge Design Review Panel.

Husam AlWaer

Husam is an award-winning author with published work on a wide range of subjects from architecture, urbanism, sustainability and healthy neighbourhoods to the specifics of placemaking facilitation and performance evaluation. Titles include: 'Site and Composition: Design strategies in Architecture and Urbanism', 'Rethinking Masterplanning: Creating Better Places', 'Energy Saving Potential for Residential Buildings in Hot Climates: The Case of Oman' and 'Changing the Focus: Viewing Design-Led Events within Collaborative Planning'. He brings insight to research, teaching, community stakeholder engagement and professional practice at the intersection between theoretical and contemporary policy and practice. Husam is a Registered Overseas Architect, a Corporate Member of the RTPI, an Academician with Academy of Urbanism (AoU), a Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design (UDG), and a BREEAM AP Communities assessor.

Ivan Dikov

Job Titles:

Qualifications: BA (Hons), MArchD, ARB Ivan completed his architectural studies at the University of Dundee before joining Proctor and Matthews in 2018. He has since worked across a wide range of projects including developing innovative housing typologies for multiple sites across Hertfordshire and Inholm, a sustainable urban neighbourhood of 400 homes that sets pioneering townscape design principles for the wider new town of Northstowe near Cambridge. Following his work on the Inholm masterplan, Ivan was part of the team developing and delivering a bespoke modular heritage centre in Northstowe. The building is designed to store artefacts discovered in the excavations for the large new settlement and serve as a venue for the public and local communities. Ivan has developed skills in complex information modelling and also acts as one of the software advisors in the practice. Outside of work, Ivan enjoys both high-altitude hiking and low-effort city roaming. He is also a gym enthusiast, home bartender and cook.

Samantha Algret

Job Titles:

Qualifications: BA (Hons), MArch (Hons), PGDip, ARB Samantha joined the practice in 2017 after graduating from the University of Liverpool as a Part I and has since completed her architectural training whilst being at Proctor and Matthews Architects. She studied her masters at Cardiff University which is very practice-based, combining practical learning with academic study. This year she completed her Part 3 the University of Westminster. Samantha has been involved in a wide range of projects from conception to technical design, with most of her experience being in the later RIBA stages of work. She is currently working on the Vaux Housing project (Phase 1 of the wider Riverside Sunderland Masterplan) which is currently being constructed. It has high sustainability targets, which she is very interested in developing a specialism in. Samantha has creative interests such as making clothes and enjoys going to salsa, yoga and hiking trips.

Stephen Proctor - Founder

He has previously taught at the Universities of Brighton, Kent and Cardiff. He is a member of Design South East and Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) and is also a contributor to Design Review Panels in Essex, Dunsfold Park, Folkestone and Hythe. Stephen is also an Academician at the Academy of Urbanism, an elected member of the Art Workers Guild and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
