Lech-Stahlwerke was founded in 1970 as Bayerische Elektrostahlwerke GmbH with the aim to recycle steel scrap and into high-quality steel. LSW belongs to the 'Steel & Production' division of the Max Aicher Foundation (Max Aicher Stiftung) being the foremost of the two steel mills in the group and the only one in Germany... As Bavaria's largest recycling company we make a significant contribution towards sustainable resource conservation and environment protection. The rate of CO2 emissions per tonne of steel produced in an electric arc furnace is almost 80% lower than that of conventional production in a blast furnace!
