Dr. Hanine Salem is a senior strategist and established public sector expert with over 20 years of executive level working experience in the field of education, higher education and human capital development. Throughout her career, she has been advising heads of states, prime ministers, ministers and public sector officials in areas related to her field of expertise.
As part of her affiliation with large international organizations, she led major public sector reform initiatives around the world. Her interest is concerned with improving and renovating educational systems, bridging gaps between the education sector and the workplace, designing and institutionalizing holistic approaches to human capital development, and improving policies and decision-making processes through ensuring access to updated knowledge and continuous learning opportunities.
In her leadership capacity at the Education Unit at RAND Corporation, her work largely focused on K-12 and higher education reform, evaluation of the implementation of education policies, strategy formulations, organizational performance measurement, and examination of topics related to human capital formation and skills attainment in the Arab world. In her capacity as regional office director, she served as advisor to several leaders and senior officials engaged in ambitious development and reform initiatives.
Prior to that, Dr. Salem served as a UNDP senior advisor to two ministers of administrative reform. She introduced concepts of organizational performance management and measurement systems into several governments as well as designed a number of national performance-based reporting systems.
In addition to her several leadership roles, Dr. Salem taught at universities in the US and the Middle East and made numerous presentations at prestigious venues around the world in her fields of expertise.
Dr. Mary Gray is the author of books and papers in the fields of mathematics, mathematics education, computer science, applied statistics, economic equity, discrimination law, and academic freedom. She has lectured throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. Her current research interests include applications of statistics in litigation, ethical issues in statistics, intellectual property and academic freedom, and language and gender issues in mathematics. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Karim Rida Said Foundation in London.
Professor Gray has served as consultant and expert witness on issues of university governance, academic freedom and tenure, faculty personnel policies, educational equity, and technology in higher education in the United States, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. She is currently visiting the Kings College (London) School of Medicine.
In 2001 Dr. Gray visited the three Kurdish provinces of Iraqi (Dohuk, Erbil, and Sulemaniya) to consult on issues in higher education, human rights, technology, and the conduct of a population census. During 2003 she worked on the USAID project, Revitalization of Iraqi Schools/Stabilization of Education, focusing on an inventory of the secondary schools of Iraq and community interviews with Iraqi parents and teachers.
The first president of the Association for Women in Mathematics and past president of the Women's Equity Action League, Dr. Gray has been a member of boards and committees of such organizations as Amnesty International, the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Middle East Education Foundation, and the American Association of University Professors, has served as vice-president of the American Mathematical Society, is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was recently elected to membership in the International Statistical Institute. Professor Gray has been chair of the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA, International Treasurer of Amnesty International, and chair of its international Development Committee. President Bush awarded her the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Mentoring.
Dr. Gray has previously taught at the University of Kansas, the University of California, Berkeley, and California State University, Hayward, and has worked at the National Bureau of Standards and as a consultant for a number of government agencies and private firms. She has served several terms as chair of her department and as Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at American University. Her undergraduate degree is from Hastings College, her Ph.D. is from the University of Kansas, and she has studied in Germany on a Fulbright grant. She also has a J.D. degree from Washington College of Law, American University and is a member of the District of Columbia and U.S. Supreme bars. She has been awarded honorary degrees by the University of Nebraska and Hastings College.

Dr. Mondher Ben Ayed is a Tunisian entrepreneur, engineer, and academic. He is the president and CEO of TMI, a leading company in the field of information and communication technologies, and Oradist, a distributor of Oracle products and services in Tunisia. He is also a former professor of computer engineering at the University of Rochester, where he obtained his PhD in 1990. He holds an MS and a BS in electrical engineering from the same institution.
Dr. Ben Ayed is also active in civil society. He currently serves on the boards of the Tunisian Association of Business Leaders (IACE) and the Tunisian American Friendship Association (TAFA, in addition to his service on the Amideast board. Previously he has held the positions of president of the Tunisian-American Chamber of Commerce (2007 to 2009), private sector coordinator for the World Summit on Information Society in Tunis (2005), and vice president of the Tunisian-American Chamber of Commerce (1994 to 2007).

Dr. Odeh Aburdene is President of OAI Advisors, which provides advice and consultancy on Middle East business, energy, and private equity. Before OAI, he was a Managing Partner of CT Capital International, Inc. Dr. Aburdene received his PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, specializing in oil economics. His thesis analyzed the impact of Middle East oil on the U.S. balance of payments. He also studied the Middle East oil industry at the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies and participated in several study groups in the United States and the Middle East on US-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) relations.
From 1975 to 1980, Dr. Aburdene served the First National Bank of Chicago as Vice President responsible for the Middle East. In 1980, he joined Occidental Petroleum as Vice President responsible for the Middle East. In 1980, he joined Occidental Petroleum as Vice President for Middle East business and as an adviser to senior management.
Dr. Aburdene has published several articles on international monetary and petroleum issues. He is also a member of the New York Council on Foreign Relations, the International Advisory Board of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, the Advisory Board of the Rand Center for Middle East Public Policy, the Advisory Board of Search for Common Ground, the board of Seeds of Peace.

Mr. Amjad Ahmad is Managing Partner and Emerging Market Advisor at 500 Global and Chairman of the EmpowerME Initiative at the Atlantic Council. He also serves on the board of directors of Amideast, Homzmart, Koita Foods, and Tapal Tea.

Mr. Antoine N. Frem is the co-founder and vice chairman of INDEVCO, a group of manufacturing enterprises that produce paperboard, corrugated cartons, plastics, and sanitary products. He is also the chairman of the board of UNIPAK, a subsidiary of INDEVCO that specializes in packaging solutions. He has more than 45 years of experience in the packaging and paperboard industry and has worked in the US and international markets.
Mr. Frem is also involved in public and community service. He served as the mayor of Jounieh, a coastal city in Lebanon, from 2010 to 2016. He is a member of several boards of directors, including Amideast; the Children Cancer Center Lebanon, affiliated with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; the Friends of the Lebanese Academy for Sciences, a non-governmental organization that supports scientific research and innovation in Lebanon; and the Caux Round Table, a network of senior business leaders that promotes corporate responsibility. He is also a member of the advisory board of the Institute of Family and Entrepreneurial Business at the Lebanese American University, and a member of the board of the Lebanese Management Association and the Young Men's Christian Association Lebanon.
