DUE WEST ORTHODONTICS - Key Persons

Dr. Ashley Smith

Doctor Smith is from the town of Nahunta in southeast Georgia. He enjoys spending his time with his wife Mackenzie, their son born on Jan. 17, 2023, their chocolate lab Cocoa, their labradoodle Olive, and their cat Pumpkin. Together they enjoy hiking, traveling, and exploring new restaurants and cuisine. Doctor Smith attended the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Genetics, graduating Magna Cum Laude with High Honors. Next, he graduated from the Medical College of Georgia (now known as Georgia Regents University) earning his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, Dr. Smith was accepted to specialize in orthodontics, eventually completing his orthodontic residency at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. While at the University of Georgia, Dr. Smith ran competitively with the track team, and still enjoys long distance running. He also enjoys wakeboarding, water skiing, tennis, racquetball, and reading. While in Augusta, Dr. Smith donated his time to the Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club, and Give A Smile Foundation. He was heavily involved with Medical Campus Outreach throughout dental school and went on a medical mission trip to Trinidad in 2011. Upon becoming an orthodontic specialist, Dr. Smith went through the rigorous process of becoming Board Certified by The American Board of Orthodontics. Only a small percentage of orthodontic specialists ever become Board Certified by completing all phases required for that certification. To have completed this process ensures that that individual has shown the ability to present the most outstanding cases that meet the highest standards of the orthodontic profession. Dr. Smith began working with Dr. McLendon in January 2015 and was happy to learn that they shared many of the same values and treatment philosophies. He is proud to have worked alongside Dr. McLendon learning from him and to be able to apply the wisdom that he has learned from Dr. McLendon to the newer orthodontic techniques and appliances available today. Dr. Smith vows to continue to seek the highest quality of patient care and service with a friendly, caring chairside manner as he has taken over practice ownership. Doctor Smith also maintains membership in the Georgia Dental Association, American Dental Association, Georgia Association of Orthodontics, Southern Association of Orthodontics, American Association of Orthodontists, and is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontists.
