With a career spanning over 30 years in both the public and private sectors, Ceri Richards brings specialised industry expertise and an in-depth knowledge of corporate finance to Mutual Energy's Board. She was previously Chief Investments Officer for international engineering enterprise Laing O'Rourke, and prior to this, she was Managing Director of Specialised Industry Finance and Corporate Real Estate for Lloyds Bank. Ceri has also held senior positions for HBOS and BNP Paribas. In 2017, Ceri established a management consultancy firm, Rolo Consultancy Services LTD, which she now runs. A qualified accountant of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Ceri is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and a past graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme. Building on a highly successfully career in corporate finance, Ceri is also an experienced board member, helping a range of industrial, transport and finance companies achieve excellence including GrowthDesk, Red Funnel Holdings and the Dutch Infrastructure Fund.

Chris Murray is a member of the National Grid Leadership Team and Chief Executive Officer of Xoserve Limited. National Grid own and operate the high voltage electricity network in England and Wales and the high pressure gas network in Great Britain. Xoserve provide data management services for the UK gas industry on behalf of all the major gas Network transportation companies and provide one consistent service point for companies who use the networks to deliver gas to end users. Chris has over 37 years experience in the energy industry and has held numerous operational directorates ranging from leadership of commercial areas to operation of both the national Electricity and Gas networks. Prior to his roles with National Grid, Chris was the founding CEO of Phoenix Natural Gas and before that worked for East Midlands Gas and British Gas. Chris is Deputy Chairman of the Energy & Utility Skills Council and Chairman of the Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network. He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute, President, Fellow and past Midlands Section Chairman of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Emmet McFadden is Gas Operations Manager for Mutual Energy, having previously been Gas Operations Officer with Mutual's subsidiary company Premier Transmission Limited (PTL). A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Emmet joined PTL in April 2005, having previously worked for Phoenix Natural Gas since 1999 as a graduate trainee. Emmet has worked in all aspects of gas distribution engineering and in his current role is responsible for the integrity and operation of the Premier Transmission Pipeline System (PTPS) in accordance with the PTL Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS).

Gurpal Ghotra

As Head of Commercial and Projects at Mutual Energy Limited, Gurpal is a key member of the senior management team and has specific responsibility for managing the business's key longer term commercial arrangements. Additionally, the role includes taking responsibility for managing and delivering significant projects as they arise and taking ownership of value chain management (eg procurements and controls) across the business. Gurpal is a chartered engineer with an MSc in ‘Offshore Structures' and an MBA from Warwick University. He has a wealth of experience across a number of industries, particularly dealing with complex contractual and programme management issues with multiple stakeholders. Such experience has been built up with Mutual Energy and in the recent past as Project Director with WSP and Balfour Beatty working on the East West Interconnector project as well as other major projects for National Grid, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, BT and the BBC Transmission.

Prior to joining Mutual Energy Joseph worked for UK Power Networks and Cummins Generator Technologies in power system modelling and asset failure investigation roles. Joseph has an MSc in Electrical Power Systems Engineering from the University of Manchester UK in 2009 and B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2000 from The Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria.

Kate Mingay

Kate Mingay is Senior Adviser to Cambridge Economics Policy Associates (CEPA), where she provides corporate finance expertise to their economic and financial policy advisory business in the UK transport and other infrastructure sectors. Prior to joining CEPA in 2013, she was a Director at the UK Department for Transport for 10 years where she built and led a highly regarded in-house corporate and infrastructure finance team. She worked on complex new transport infrastructure projects: these included structuring and negotiating finance for the £5.4 billion UK Intercity Express Programme, the £2.1 billion sale of the High Speed 1 concession, as well as the £14.2 billion funding for Crossrail. In the aviation and rail sectors Kate was deeply involved in a wide range of regulation, investment and corporate finance issues. She began her career at UBS, and later Goldman Sachs, where she gained extensive financing transaction experience, particularly in the economically regulated sectors of water and electricity. She was a founding member of the HM Treasury's Major Projects Review Group, which gives independent assurance on the largest government projects.

Michael McKernan

Michael McKernan joined the Board of Mutual Energy in January 2018. An economist by training, Michael has 25 years' experience working in government, north and south and in senior roles in the Irish energy sector. Most recently, Michael served as Special Advisor to a number of ministers in the Northern Ireland Executive, with responsibility for policy areas including housing, fuel poverty, social regeneration, planning, waste, built and natural heritage and environmental protection. Prior to this, during his time working for Northern Ireland Electricity, Michael spearheaded the company's entry into the southern Irish electricity market which ultimately led to the development of the independent Huntstown Power project. Formerly he was Interconnector Business Manager at NIE, during which time he secured the restoration of the North South Interconnector after a long outage. In his earlier career, Michael was a professionally qualified Housing Manager in the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. He subsequently joined the Department of Finance in Dublin, where he was a national trade negotiator in Brussels and Geneva and a Director of the National Standards Authority of Ireland. Michael is also a board member of the Integrated Education Fund. Michael brings a wealth of knowledge of both business and government to his role at Mutual Energy, with particular expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Mr. David Gray - Chairman

Mr. David Gray served as a Managing Director of UK's Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (Ofgem). Mr. Gray was responsible for all the UK gas and electricity price control reviews. He advised the UK Department for Transport on airport regulation. He has 30 years of experience in energy investment banking, mainly at HSBC James Capel, and served on the Accounting Standards Board's Oil Industry Accounting Committee for several years. He was the Chairman of Office for Gas and Electricity Markets for five years, retiring in September 2018. He served as Chairman of Pitkin Petroleum PLC. He serves as a Non-Executive Director of The Civil Aviation Authority. He is a Member of the UK Civil Aviation Authority, a Member of the Council of Management of the Regulatory Policy Institute and a Governor of the Central School of Ballet. He was a member of the Panel of Experts which advised the Department for Transport on its review of airport regulation in 2008-09 and, in 2010-11, led a review of the water regulator Ofwat on behalf of DEFRA and the Welsh government

Paddy Larkin has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Mutual Energy, with effect from 1st January 2010. He joined what was then Northern Ireland Energy Holdings in 2007 as an executive director and managing director for the Moyle Interconnector. After studying mechanical engineering at Queen's University Belfast, he started work with NIE at Ballylumford power station in 1991 just before privatisation. In 1992 British Gas bought Ballylumford Power station and Paddy continued to work with Premier Power, initially in breakdown maintenance before moving to the business side of the operation where he helped to oversee the change in practices from a nationalised to a private company. Later he was involved in the buy out of the long term contracts and construction of the combined cycle gas turbine and served as the station's Chief Executive.

Rowan Tunnicliffe

Rowan Tunnicliffe joined Mutual Energy in December 2017, taking up the role of Commercial Analyst, within the Regulatory and Markets team. Formerly, he worked as a senior advisor to a political party at the Northern Ireland Assembly, with responsibility for all aspects of policy. Prior to this, Rowan was an economist working in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in Great Britain. In these roles Rowan modelled the economic and financial impacts on businesses of policies, and prepared briefings for Ministers and senior civil servants. Rowan has a degree in Economics from the University of Bath, and a Masters in Behavioural Science for Management from the University of Stirling.

Sam Gibson

Sam joined Mutual Energy in March 2017, after a twenty-year career with NIE Networks, to take up the role of Moyle Operations Manager. He is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Moyle Interconnector, the HVDC link between Northern Ireland and Scotland. This includes the Northern Irish and Scottish converter stations, and the twin 60km cable circuits between them. In his most recent roles in NIE, largely within the asset management arena, he was responsible for substation maintenance, asset knowledge strategy and plant investment strategy. He also project managed ISO 55001 certification, and was heavily involved in delivery of the RIGs regulatory reporting system. He is recognised within the wider UK asset management community for his work on the Maximo asset management platform, and was chair of the UK user group. Sam was also heavily involved in emergency restoration, both as a Senior Authorised Person, and latterly as a Network Status Manager within the NIE Duty Incident Team structure.

Tim Cox is a Regulatory Analyst with Mutual Energy, a role he took up in 2015, to monitor and influence developments in the electricity and gas regulatory environments. Prior to this, Tim worked in the health service, protecting research discoveries and licensing product development opportunities to businesses. He spent some years providing technology consulting services to government and industry through QinetiQ plc and has worked in regional economic development. Previously Tim contributed to numerous national and international engineering standards on behalf of a trade association. He also has experience in regulation of radio telecommunications. Tim is an engineer by education and a graduate of the University of Cambridge.
