Richard Cantillon

Job Titles:
  • Dentist - BDS GDC No. 54678
Richard is the owner of New Mills Dental Practice along with his wife Helen and has worked here for just over 30 years. Having decided he wanted to be a dentist at the age of 9, he originally visited the practice when he was 16 in order to watch his future business partner Dr. Roy Higson work, demonstrating how interesting general dental practice could be! Richard qualified from the University of Manchester Dental Hospital in 1980 and started work at a practice in Southport where he met Helen when she came for a job interview. He counts himself very lucky to have had some input into the candidate selection process. His main professional interest is in general dentistry and he set out to develop a caring, primarily preventive practice concentrating on family dentistry. Along the way however, he has taken interests in TMJ and occlusion, dental implants, endodontics (root canal fillings) and more recently, dental sleep medicine. He is a member of the British Dental Association and an associate member of the Royal College of Surgeons along with the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine and the British Dental Health Association. Outside of dentistry he tries to keep fit with a combination of tennis, football and pilates. He is also very proud of his sons Philip and Andrew, and his daughter Suzanne, although none of them showed any interest in dentistry.
