From humble beginnings, SHR has grown and developed to become a sophisticated organisation... From the first tape recording of Scunthorpe United''s football match against Rochdale on 10th November 1951 through to the introduction in the 70s of a Record Request programme on Thursday evenings, to todays seven day a week, 24 hour a day operation, the station has seen many positive changes... The very first studios were right at the top of Scunthorpe General Hospital, close to the lift-shaft. Indeed if presenters weren't careful then their words would disappear as the lift cranked into action.
