The SSI was founded in 2010 as the first organisation in the world dedicated to improving software in research. It was founded on the premise that helping individuals and institutions understand the vital role that software plays in research would accelerate progress in every field of scientific and academic endeavour... We run a yearly Fellowship Programmes to suit different skill levels and audiences. Our Research Software Healthchecks are available to projects looking to improve the sustainability of their software... The SSI represents the needs of software users and developers in the research community. We created the tagline "Better Software, Better Research" to lobby for the recognition of the role of software in research, better software education for the research community, recognition of the role of people who develop research software and better engineering of software to provide confidence in the results that software generates.
