Alan French

Alan, a retired police officer, has lived in Sussex all his life. Alan has been actively involved in the Golden Children's Trust, a charity which promotes hope, help and happiness for disabled and underprivileged children for many years. He is also a member of the management team and a director of the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society, which owns and operates a main line steam locomotive, No35028 Clan Line. Alan Has always had a passion for all types of music and apart from playing the guitar (beautifully) he also has a wonderful singing voice. He belonged to a group called 'Whiskey Mill' and toured extensively across the county, during the 70/80's. His other passion is radio. In the early 90's, he joined Mid Downs Hospital Radio, in Haywards Heath, where he was trained as a presenter. Having successfully completed his training, he presented a weekly evening programme, which he is still presenting. Not only does he present but Alan is part of the management committee. He was elected as programme controller in 1996, a role he continues to hold to date. In 1999 he attended the Bruno Brookes Radio school, along with other WBC members, Paddy Rea and Maralyn Streeter. Alan has been involved in many RSL'S throughout the South Of England which include, 1997 Mid Downs Radio, presenting a weekday morning show. 1999 Reigate FM, Nov 1999 Worthing Radio, Nov/Dec '99 Susy Radio, Surrey, March 2000 Mid Downs Radio won an A.M Licence and Alan was part of the launch team. Most recently Alan is one of the founder members of WBC, and company secretary.

Bob James

Bob is a native of Worthing having been brought up in Goring. His addiction to radio goes back to the 60's when he found,on a Sunday, up on the downs 'transmitting' his pirate radio station to the Worthing area. When he left school he joined a small electronics company manufacturing hi fi systems, stage and disco equipment and many other kinds of 'gadgets'. By the late 70's Bob was Chief Engineer at the company and also working, as a DJ, in some of the top night clubs in Brighton. He was one of the founder members who set up Southlands Hospital Radio, and was often seen in Montague Street, Worthing entertaining the masses. The call of the radio world was so strong that in 1979 he started his first full time radio job as a presenter for Victory Radio in Portsmouth, where he stayed until he went to the broadcasting school in London, in 1983. On leaving the B.S he was snapped up Southern Sound Radio, where he was Chief Engineer and top presenter for a number of years. He was head hunted by Mercury F.M became Chief Engineer,and presented a heavy rock show on a Friday, which brought in more fan mail than any one could have predicted, (it had to be stored in sacks as the mail box was too small).Bob stayed with Mercury until 1987 when, Southern Sound,by then known as Southern F.M head hunted him back as Chief Engineer and presenter. He remained with Southern F.M. until 1996 when he went to South Coast Radio. Bob is, at present, Chief Engineer and top presenter with Sovereign Radio. You will also find him at the Junction Night Club in Brighton on a Friday/Saturday. He is also a founder and Chairman of W.B.C.

Paddy Rea

Stuart James

Stuart is married with two sons and lives in East Sussex. His radio career began in 1976 in hospital radio for the Woolwich Hospitals Broadcasting Service. In the same year he went to work, as a studio assistant, for the BBC at the Medway, now called Radio Kent, and for BBC Radio Brighton, now known as Southern Counties Radio. In 1979 he joined P&O Cruises as an Entertainment Officer/Disc Jockey, on board SS Oriana and SS Canberrba. Whilst overseas, he was offered freelance work in Gibraltar for the British Forces Broadcasting Service. He took up their offer and the following year went on to work in Germany. In 1983 he took up a full time post as presenter with the Commercial Radio Station in Ipswich, called Radio Orwell, now known as SGR. At the end of his contract he was again offered a job with BFBS and in 1985 he joined their biggest radio station in Germany. After that he travelled with BFBS to Gibraltar, Belize, Honk Kong, Brunei, Bosnia, London and Catterick. Holding many positions such as head of music and presentation, Deputy Controller for Worldwide Programming for BFBS in London. Stuart is to be seen on many tv programmes as an extra, another string to his bow. He was the breakfast presenter with Worthing Radio in Nov '99 and is a founder member of WBC.
