Adam Finn

Job Titles:

Adam Finn (he/him) Actuarial Associate Adam graduated from his hometown university of Dublin City, where he was born and raised. Adam completed an Actuarial Mathematics degree in 2020 and brings with him experience from Liberty and FBD Insurance. Adam's a dedicated member of his local football club Bohemian FC, and hopes to bring the best of Ireland with him to APR and its Dublin office. In his spare time, he enjoys video games and e-sports; he is also an active member of community outreach programmes and social activism.

Adam Smith

Adam Smith (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Adam graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Mathematics and, following a two-year stint in teaching, joined APR in 2016. His actuarial experience spans Risk, ALM, Reinsurance, Reserving and Reporting, and he achieved FIA qualification in 2020. Away from the office, Adam is a keen runner and goalkeeper, yet so far hasn't secured the international call-up he feels his talent deserves.

Aidan O'Boyle

Aidan O'Boyle (he/him) Actuarial Associate Aidan graduated from Queen's University Belfast with First Class Honours in Actuarial Science and Risk Management. He has completed a year on placement working for Hannover-Re in Dublin. He joined APR in September 2021 and is now working towards becoming a qualified Actuary. Away from work he enjoys running, karate, and looking after his dog, Mylo.

Aileen Clements

Aileen Clements (she/her) Resourcing Support Analyst Aileen began her career in the pensions sector with the Scottish Executive before heading off to build a ‘glamourous' career in many sun-soaked destinations with Thomas Cook. After an amazing final year in Cuba, Aileen returned to reality in 2013 and eventually found a career path within back-office recruitment where she gained extensive knowledge through various roles. As with work, Aileen enjoys a challenge in her own time and likes to give back as much as she can. She has participated in various ‘muddy', ‘walking' and ‘sleep out' events for charity. Aileen like to keep active and is a keen swimmer.

Alan Reed

Alan joined APR in 2020 after 14 years in Edinburgh insurers and 6 years contracting around the UK. He mixes a focus on all aspects of Matching Adjustment, non-traded assets and credit quality assessment with a wide range of capital measurement and capital management projects, from IM validation to Part VII projects. When not working, Alan can be found growing fruit and veg in the Scottish Borders, spotting wildlife or baking sourdough.

Amar Gorania

Amar joined APR in 2020 and, alongside client projects, is working his way through the actuarial exams (already an associate actuary, he only has one remaining). He was previously a mathematics teacher in his hometown Leicester.

Andy Nash

Andy Nash (she/her) Administration Assistant Andy joined APR as an Administration Assistant in September 2020 after taking a break from work to look after her two adorable children. Before that, she spent time for her sins as a primary school teaching assistant, and she's grateful to now be working in a more sensible and mature environment (at least on paper!). Most of Andy's work is focused on APR's recruitment processes, although she also supports the business with other administrative areas.

Asees Sachdev

Asees Sachdev (he/him) Actuarial Associate Asees joined APR in 2022, after completing his MSci in Mathematics at Imperial. Although relatively new to the Insurance industry, he brings with him work experience within the Operations team at multinational companies like GRAB and MARSH. Outside of work Asees is a keen runner and when not watching wildlife you can frequently find him practicing for charity runs at a park near you.

Ben Slater

Ben graduated from Warwick University with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering before joining as a graduate at EY as an Actuarial consultant. After 5 years he decided to make the switch to APR having worked with members of the team at various client sites. He has worked in a variety of roles both at EY and APR, ranging from methodology across SII and IFRS 17 to modelling and capital management roles. He has experience working with most large insurers in the industry across various locations around the UK. His favourite way to spend his free time is exploring exotic locations around the globe and trying new cuisines (and then attempting to cook dishes from them!).

Caroline Blackley

Caroline Blackley (she/her) Actuarial Associate Caroline first joined APR in 2016, after completing an MSci at the University of St. Andrews and a PhD in Quantum Chemistry at Durham University. After a short sabbatical when she moved to Taiwan, Caroline returned to APR in 2019 and has since gained a wide range of experience with clients across the life and pensions sectors. She has worked in a variety of areas including: with profits management, modelling, systems testing and IFRS 17. She is currently based in Edinburgh.

Chandler Walker

Chandler Walker (he/him) Actuarial Analyst Chandler started at APR in September 2018 after completing A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science and is now working towards the CAA qualification. While studying for his A-Levels, he also competed in various robotics competitions, becoming UK national champion three times. Now, however, he is excited to start his actuarial career.​

Chaofan Sun

Chaofan Sun (he/him) Actuarial Associate Chaofan joined APR in January 2022, after completing a master's degree and pursuing a PhD at Heriot-Watt. He gained knowledge and experience in both actuarial science and deep learning during his five-year study in Edinburgh and decided to settle in this lovely city. He works on client projects and develops in-house material for APR. He gained exemptions from the Core Principles exams and is preparing for the rest of them in hopes of an actuarial fellowship.

Chris Bryce

Chris joined APR towards the end of 2018 to lead the development of our consulting business. Despite having thoroughly enjoyed his time in leadership roles in a large life insurer, he simply could not resist the call of actuarial consulting. He has spent most of his career developing solutions to the business problems typically encountered by insurance companies. His knack of rapidly getting to the nub of an issue coupled with an ability to communicate complex and technical ideas in a way that is understood by a senior audience has proven invaluable. He has significant experience in Solvency II, Reporting Development, Insurance Transformation, Modelling and With-Profits. Many moons ago, Chris graduated with a first class honours degree in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics, qualifying as an actuary rapidly thereafter. He lives in Edinburgh with his wife, kids and their dog.

Chris Dickson

Chris completed his masters in 2023 graduating with Distinction in International Marketing having previously obtained an undergraduate degree in Marketing and Finance. Upon graduating, he began his role as a Business Development Support Consultant in our Edinburgh office, also providing support in the marketing function. Away from work, Chris enjoys watching football and expanding his ever-growing collection of books.

Ciarán Ó Súilleabháin

Ciarán Ó Súilleabháin (he/him/sé/é) Head of Irish Operations Ciarán joined APR to lead the Irish operations having worked in a number of insurers the Irish market and most recently as a senior manager in a large consultancy. Ciarán has significant experience in Solvency II and financial statements reporting and modelling as well as putting his CERA qualification to use on risk management projects. When not playing Gaelic football with his Irish speaking team he enjoys tending to his veg patch!

Claire Grant

Claire Grant (she/her) Actuarial Associate Claire graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MA in Mathematics, before going on to get her Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science from Heriot Watt in September 2020. Claire joined APR in March 2021 through the graduate scheme and is currently working her way through the actuarial exams to become qualified. In her spare time, Claire enjoys playing netball, trying new places to eat, and occasionally braving the Scottish weather to go for a dip in the sea!

Claire Rong

Claire Rong (she/her) Senior Actuarial Associate Claire joined APR in 2018 as a qualified Actuary after 7 years at Willis Towers Watson as an Actuarial Consultant. She has since worked on a variety of both Life and Pensions projects in areas including Reinsurance, Product Disclosure and Bulk Annuities. Aside from her mathematical background, Claire also has a creative side and one day hopes to build her own ‘Grand Designs' project.

Conor Marshall

Conor joined APR in October 2019 to support the central team in Edinburgh after deciding university wasn't for him. He completed Advanced Highers in Mathematics and Business Management before studying Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Glasgow for 2 years. He is now working towards the CAA qualification with the hopes of one day becoming fully qualified. Outside of work Conor is a massive football fan, he enjoys going to games and playing as often as possible.

Craig Lynch

Craig graduated with a first-class degree in Actuarial Science from Heriot Watt University. He then joined APR in September 2019 and has since become a fully qualified actuary. He has been involved in a variety of work for clients including experience analysis, bonus setting, SQL modelling, VBA coding and UDA testing. Outside of the office, Craig likes travelling and improving his rock climbing skills.

Cristian Redondo Loures

Cristian Redondo Loures (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate When Cristian completed his PhD in Physics at Heriot Watt University, he decided it was time to look for a more practical use of his skills, and an actuarial career was a natural choice. After three years working on an academic project studying mortality in the US, he thought he was ready to go out into the "real" actuarial world and joined APR in February 2020. He is now based in Edinburgh, which he still finds as charmingly beautiful as he did when he first moved there.

Darren Walters

Darren Walters (he/him) Business Support Manager Darren joined APR in January 2020 as a Business Support Manager. Darren brings over twenty years' experience in financial services covering actuarial outsourcing and thirteen years at Aviva working in Bulk Purchase Annuities where his roles included Senior Actuarial Analyst, Trustee Services and Propositions. At APR, Darren's responsibilities include supporting the Partners implement and manage new company software, business development and process improvement. Away from the office Darren likes to travel, taking six months out in 2019 visiting ten countries, planning home improvements and tries to keep active.

David O'Mahony

Job Titles:

David O'Mahony (he/him) Actuarial Associate David recently graduated from UCD with a degree in Actuarial and Financial Studies and is now joining the APR Dublin office. As part of his degree, he gained some actuarial experience working at one of the Big Four. Outside of work, David plays rugby and is an active member of his local club in Clontarf, Dublin.

Dennis Wang

Dennis joined APR in 2016 after completing a mathematics degree at the University of Oxford, and qualified as FIA in 2020. His areas of experience include Solvency II reporting, ALM, IFRS17 and capital modelling. Dennis achieved fame outside the actuarial world in 2016 when he appeared on University Challenge.

Deven Rickaby

Deven Rickaby (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Deven joined APR in 2016, after graduating with a degree in Physics from Imperial College London. He has worked on projects across Pensions, Life and GI, developing strong core modelling skills along the way. Deven achieved FIA qualification in 2020, and has been unable to fill the void ever since.

Doreen Legge

Doreen Legge (she/her) Administration Manager Doreen has worked for APR since its inception. Prior to this she worked for an outsourcing company alongside both Roger and Gary where she had operational responsibility for the company's busy administration centre. A significant part of this role involved her liaising closely with over 200 actuarial contractors and many of these contractors now form part of APR's available resource pool. Doreen is responsible for most aspects of APR's administration and liaises regularly with our employees, contractors, clients and suppliers.

Ellen Weise

Ellen Weise (she/her) Actuarial Analyst After having left school in 2019, Ellen joined APR in January 2020 as an Actuarial Analyst and is studying towards her CAA qualification. Outside of work, she really enjoys watching films and tending to her ever-expanding coin collection.

Emma McDougall

Emma McDougall (she/her) Senior Actuarial Associate Emma joined APR as a graduate in January 2019 after completing a PhD and BSc at Heriot Watt University. Since joining Emma has worked on a large data migration project. Outside of work Emma dedicates a great deal of time to her two dogs and enjoys horse riding in the countryside when she can.

Gary Heslop

Gary's back-story is a real tearjerker; born to abject poverty and seemingly pre-destined for life as a street urchin, his prodigious mathematical ability set his life on a different groove. Starting actuarial work in a pensions consultancy, two years of calculating transfer values were enough to send him back to Birmingham University where he eventually graduated with a PhD in Statistics. He subsequently joined an actuarial outsourcing company where he met Roger and Tim, and his work there included responsibility for all end user software, a stint as head of quality and ownership of business lines including actuarial placements. Gary is a qualified actuary and within APR, he is primarily responsible for the recruitment, training and management of our actuarial staff. His legendary drive is fuelled by equal measures of self-loathing and self-interest.

George Fairbrother

George Fairbrother (he/him) Actuarial Associate George joined APR in October 2021 as a part qualified actuary with a degree in mathematics and economics from the London School of Economics. Before joining APR, George worked at Aviva for 3 years, gaining experience in actuarial reporting and product governance in their life business. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing football, going to the gym and regular Saturday afternoon trips to Elland Road.

Georgina Williams

Georgina graduated in 2022 with a First-Class Mathematics degree from UCL. After spending some time doing Maths Research in both the UK and USA, she joined the APR London office in September 2023 and is working towards becoming a qualified actuary. Outside of work, you can find Georgina playing her trombone, snowboarding or most likely cooking for her family and friends.

Glen Bishop

Glen graduated from the University of Nottingham with First Class Honours in Maths and Economics in June 2022 and starts his journey to becoming an Actuary with APR at the London office in September. Glen is new to the actuarial field but brings previous work experience from two household names in catering and e-commerce. In his spare time Glen enjoys reading, going to the gym, travelling to new places, and hiking in the Scottish Highlands.

Hannah Merriman

Hannah Merriman (she/her) Actuarial Associate Hannah graduated from (formerly) Cass Business School with a BSc in Actuarial Science in July 2020, working as an Insurance Consultant alongside her studies and joined APR in September 2020 through the graduate scheme. Hannah is currently working her way through the actuarial exams to become a qualified Actuary. In her spare time, Hannah enjoys baking new recipes (although not all turn out to be edible) and watching her local non-league football team.

Heather Kidd

Heather joined APR in November 2021 to join their Central Services Team in Edinburgh. Heather brings over twenty years of experience from the recruitment industry sector. Heather's role involves contract administration and also working with all staff and contractors ensuring APR maintain and progress strong working relationships. In her spare time, she is a huge tennis fan, going to watch most grand slams, enjoys being outdoors hill walking, travelling and participates in regular charity events.

Heather Wallace

Since then, she has been training as an accountant with Boots UK before looking for a more challenging career change. She joined APR in September 2021 and is working towards becoming a qualified actuary. In her spare time she loves cooking and baking for her friends and family and enjoys caring for her indoor jungle.

Ian Angus

Ian Angus (he/him) Associate Partner Ian joined APR in 2014 following a stint in postgraduate research in Mathematical Finance at Oxford University. Now a qualified CERA actuary, he has experience across a range of areas including GI London Market reserving, bulk annuity pricing, with-profits stochastic modelling and process transformation projects. Ian also has interests in data analytics and machine learning techniques. Although now retired from the junior international bridge circuit, he can still occasionally be found hustling in the local clubs.

Imelda Barnes

Imelda Barnes (she/her) Actuarial Associate Imelda graduated in 2017 with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and spent a year working in the financial services industry handling PPI complaints. She joined APR in September 2018 and is now working towards becoming a qualified actuary. Imelda spends her free time tending to her many house plants, and cooking gourmet meals for her friends and family.

Imran Radzi

Imran joined APR in September 2023 after completing a Master's in Mathematics at the University of Warwick, mainly specialising in Pure Mathematics. Determined to make more practical use of his skills, Imran decided to work towards becoming a qualified actuary. In his spare time he enjoys playing volleyball at a competitive level as well as learning languages.

Jack Foley

Jack joined APR in September 2019 after graduating with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Manchester, where he also worked as a data analyst for the Students' Union. During his first month at APR, Jack had sat his first exam and started working on his first client project. Outside of work, Jack is a keen traveller and spent some time in the summer before joining APR trekking through the Sumatran jungle.

Jack Miller

Jack Miller (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Jack joined APR in 2018 having completed an integrated masters in Natural Sciences at Durham University. Since joining APR, Jack has worked in consulting roles as well as the more traditional APR project work, most recently in a GI Reserving position. Outside the office Jack is a former commonwealth athelete having competed in the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships twice.

Jacob Warbrick

Jacob Warbrick (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Jacob graduated from Clare College, Cambridge with a degree in Mathematics in 2018. Since joining APR in January of the following year, he has been fortunate enough to take part in a number of exciting consulting projects, gaining experience in modelling in Excel, R and VBA. In his free time he enjoys solving (and setting) cryptic crosswords and he hopes one day to become a published cruciverbalist.

James Cooper

James Cooper (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate James joined APR part qualified having started his career working for Aviva before going on to qualify in 2019. He spent time at Aviva working on Pricing teams focussing on the enhanced annuity proposition and unit-linked savings products. Since joining APR he has been on projects involving Financial Reporting, SII, IFRS17 and Data. Outside of the office James has two young children and enjoys competing in running/cycling/triathlon events.

James Matthew

James graduated with a first class degree in physics from the University of Oxford and, having enjoyed the more mathematical elements of his degree, returned to his home town to complete a PhD in theoretical particle physics at the University of Edinburgh, before joining APR in September 2020. Since then he has worked on projects involving configuring MG-ALFA models, data scripting and longevity modelling. In his spare time he is attempting to write a novel.

James Nicholl

James is a qualified Actuary who has worked for APR since graduating from LSE in 2012. He has completed wide ranging contracts in Birmingham, Bristol and London, often moving teams multiple times within a single client, so loathe were they to lose his unique ability to raise a smile even when results are not going as expected. His areas of experience include Solvency II, model and process development, reporting and pricing. Away from the office James enjoys rugby, much to the consternation of many a manager when he shows up with the occasional black eye on a Monday morning.

John Nicholls

John Nicholls (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate John joined APR in September 2015, after obtaining a BA in Mathematics from Trinity College, Oxford. Since then, he's largely worked in model development, focusing primarily on VBA, SQL, and R. John lost any skill he once had at racquet sports during lockdown, and in his spare time can be found making elaborate excuses not to go to the gym. His creativity extends to the tennis court, on which he considers himself one in a million when it comes to shanking backhands.

Joseph Barnett

Joe joined APR in September 2014, after completing his degree in Physics at Warwick. Joe has worked throughout the UK and across a wide variety of actuarial roles for life insurers, from training proxy models to supporting financial advisers. Joe is most at home when he has a good excuse to sit down and write a program to permanently solve a problem. In his free time, he works tirelessly to cement his bad habits on the guitar.

Joynal Ahmed

Joynal is from a small town in the North West and graduated from The London School of Economics in 2022, where he completed his BSc in Actuarial Science. He is keen to return to London, join APR, and work towards becoming a qualified Actuary. Outside of work, Joynal spends his free time reading, playing board games with friends, and going on hikes through nature.

Julian Hitchcock

Julian Hitchcock (he/him) Actuarial Associate Julian studied Maths for four years at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2021 with distinction. While at university and after graduating, he worked as a catering and bar manager at Sandown Park Racecourse, however, had his sights set on becoming an actuary and joined APR in March 2022. Julian enjoys watching both football and rugby, and still attempts to hold on to his playing-days levels of fitness (and fails).

Julie Jaiyen

Julie graduated in 2014, with a BSc in Mathematics and Economics. After spending five years training and qualifying as a chartered accountant, she chose to pivot to pursue a more challenging career as an Actuary in 2019. Before joining APR in October 2022, she spent three years working for a bulk annuity insurer. During this time, she had exposure to the three essential parts of their business: Finance Actuarial, Pricing, and ALM. When she is not studying, she spends her time Ceroc dancing and pursuing new hobbies.

Kara Salih

Kara Salih (she/her) Actuarial Associate Originally from London, Kara has just graduated from the University of Exeter with a first-class master's degree in mathematics. She is now keen to join the London office at APR and take on her first actuarial role. Kara is passionate about gymnastics and animal welfare, and volunteers at animal shelters in her spare time, as well as owning two rescue dogs herself.

Katie Neill

Katie Neill (she/her) Actuarial Associate Katie recently graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management. During her degree, Katie completed a year-long placement at the Dublin office of a global insurer, where she gained experience as part of the Management Information team. Outside of work Katie enjoys cooking, reading and has recently been giving yoga a go.

Katie Rodney

Katie Rodney (she/her) Actuarial Associate Katie joined APR in September 2021 as a school leaver, and after qualifying as a Certified Actuarial Analyst, has moved onto her first IFoA exams. She has gained experience in both Pensions and Life, working with Product Illustrations and Reinsurance in particular. Since moving to Edinburgh, she has picked up a new love for travelling, visiting 10 new countries within the last 2 years, alongside other her other hobbies, watching Grey's Anatomy and going to the gym.

Kevin Li

Kevin Li (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Kevin studied maths at Cambridge and began his actuarial career at Deloitte, before moving to APR in 2023. He has experience with various UK and European life insurers, primarily in SII SCR modelling and market calibrations, as well as the development of economic scenario generators. In his spare time he enjoys watching a high volume of films and playing various racquet sports to varying degrees of success.

Kevin Livingstone

Kevin Livingstone (he/him) Engagement Manager Kevin joined APR in June 2019 to provide further support to our Central Services Team. Kevin started his career within the Financial Services Sector in Edinburgh and completed his financial planning qualifications to advanced level together with the ACII qualification, alongside working as a Corporate Pensions Account Manager and then Financial Adviser / Pension Consultant. Kevin moved into recruitment in 2004 and has specialised in providing recruitment solutions to clients in the Financial Services, Banking & Investment sectors, more recently looking after contingent actuarial resourcing for a major UK organisation. Kevin will be working with our contractors and clients, ensuring we maintain and advance our strong relationships. In his spare time Kevin helps his partner run two vintage clothing boutiques in Edinburgh and has a collection of over 150 pairs of trainers.

Kunal Patel

Kunal joined APR as a graduate in 2008, making him one of our longest serving members of staff. What piqued his interest initially was the thought of being able to work in a variety of locations. He has since been on numerous client projects, a couple lasting beyond the two-year mark, which has taken him to cities including York, Edinburgh and Bristol. He is now based in London.

Laura Westcott

Laura Westcott (she/her) Actuarial Associate Laura is joining our Edinburgh office following a career in the Scottish and UK Governments, first as a statistician and then as a leader of large health programmes. Prior to this, Laura graduated with a first-class honours degree in Maths, Statistics and Accounting from the University of Strathclyde. She joined APR in January 2023 having already started to progress through the Actuarial exams. Outside of work, Laura spends most of her time keeping active with her young son and daughter, enjoying climbing, walking and swimming.

Mark Heller

A qualified actuary and former star of the Actuary magazine's Actuary of the Future section, Mark has worked for APR since graduation from Durham University in 2010. Since then, Mark has completed client placements in York, London and Stirling, as well as Edinburgh where he is now based. During this time he has developed particular experience in product development, bonus setting, Solvency II, systems testing and VBA coding.

Martyna Czapiga

Job Titles:

Martyna Czapiga (she/her) Actuarial Analyst In 2014, Martyna graduated from Gdansk University with a BA in Mathematics specialising in Economics. Soon after she moved to London and fell in love with the big city life. Since joining APR in 2021, Martyna has gained experience in coding and data migration. Martyna is currently working towards CAA qualifications (3 exams down - 3 more to go!). Outside of work, she enjoys working out and dancing.

Matthew Gregg

Job Titles:

Matthew graduated from Newcastle university, having studied Mathematics and Accounting. He consequently completed a PGCE in mathematical education, but decided teaching was not for him. At university, Matthew gained experience with computing languages including Python, RStudio, and MATLAB. Matthew is a big sports fan and particularly enjoys American sports like basketball and ice hockey.

Matthias Wuest

Matthias Wuest (he/him) Actuarial Associate Matthias is joining our Edinburgh office after completing a master's in Statistics with Data Science at the University of Edinburgh. Matthias is a career changer, and before moving to Edinburgh, he worked for four years as a secondary maths teacher in Kigali, Rwanda and Philadelphia, USA. During this time, he also trained competitively in rowing and triathlons, and continues to prepare for his first Ironman triathlon in September!

Michael Lausch

Michael graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2018 with a First and Master's in Mathematics. He joined APR in April 2019 and only after one month of training has been involved with the model testing and data analysis on his first project. Michael's interests outside of work include reading, board games, basketball and golf.​

Michael Scanlon

Michael Scanlon (he/him) Senior Actuarial Associate Michael joined APR in 2018, after completing a Mathematics degree at the University of Edinburgh, and achieved FIA qualification in 2022. He has gained a wide range of experience with APR clients across the life sector, putting his technical skills to use across with-profits management, data migration and rectifications, amongst other areas. Outside of work, he is a keen singer, and enjoys performing with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus.

Morgan Smith-Woodhams

Morgan Smith-Woodhams (she/her) Actuarial Associate Morgan joined APR in May 2017 as one of our first Student Actuarial Analysts. Whilst navigating her way through the CAA exams she worked on projects within the pensions, life and general insurance sectors - honing her skills in Excel, VBA and R Studio. After completing the CAA qualification in 2019, Morgan had impressed the almighty partners enough to be able to continue her studies on the FIA pathway and hopes (one day!) to become fully qualified! In her spare time, when she is not studying, Morgan likes to run, keep active and bake!

Mujtaba Syed

After taking a circuitous route into the actuarial world, Mujtaba joined APR part-qualified at the end of 2020. Prior to this he gained 3 years' experience in Life & Health reporting at Swiss Re. He qualified within a year of joining APR and has had a variety of successful client projects. These include SII calibrations, assumption setting and an IFRS 17 project role. He takes pride in his ability to balance creativity and pragmatism with technical rigour.

Patrick Vieira

Patrick joined APR in 2023 on the Junior Analyst Scheme, after a brief stint at the University of Bath, and subsequent years travelling and tutoring. Outside of work he continues to travel, write, and camp whenever he gets the chance.

Phil Creswell - CTO

Phil joined APR as Technical Director in 2020, having led and contributed to a variety of projects across the life insurance industry, spanning more than 20 years and a number of different areas including: financial reporting, investments, risk management, pricing and systems development. When he is not working or studying for formal qualifications (of which he has a few) he is often learning about and developing software, so he leapt at the chance to combine his hobby and vocation by joining the APR team to lead the technology practice. Worried about appearing too nerdy he is keen to point out that he plays guitar, although he would admit that his touring days are likely behind him.

Philip O'Toole

Philip recently graduated from University College Dublin with First Class Honours in Actuarial and Financial Studies. During his degree, Philip completed a six-month placement with Hannover Re in Dublin where he gained experience as part of the Valuations team. Outside of work, Philip enjoys watching football and rugby, and is a keen traveller having spent the last two summers travelling around America and Europe.

Polly Zaluznyj

Polly joined APR in 2022 after a career break to have her three children. Whilst on maternity leave she started studying for her AAT qualifications, leading to her starting to her career in finance with APR. She supports the financial controller and HR and administration teams. Polly has work experience predominantly in two very different sectors: healthcare and financial advice. When not working, she sings professionally with touring church choirs at concerts and church events, plays netball and loves entertaining friends and family.

Rhianna Hutchins

Rhianna Hutchins (she/her) HR & Business Manager Rhianna relocated to the UK from New Zealand in 2018, and after travelling around Europe and Asia she joined APR in April 2019. As Business Manager, Rhianna's role is focused on the operations side of the business which includes finance, HR functions, and recruitment processes. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, eating, and meeting with friends and family.

Richard Chappell

Richard joined APR in September 2023, after graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge with a BA in Mathematics. During his first month at APR, Richard sat his first exam and is now working towards becoming a qualified actuary. Outside of work, his hobbies include playing board games, hockey and ultimate frisbee.

Richard Collins

Richard Collins (he/him) Actuarial Associate A Mathematics graduate from Oxford University, Richard spent a few years working as a credit risk analyst before joining APR in 2014. Since then, he has become a poster boy for variety, having been involved in a range of pensions, life and non-life projects, across numerous business functions, mainly assisting with Excel and VBA modelling and improving reporting processes. Richard is a big football fan and a keen darts player, once representing England's youth team.

Rob Givens

Rob was a late convert to the actuarial world. He previously worked as an Oil and Gas Analyst for 7 years, having graduated from the University of Cambridge with an integrated masters degree in Natural Sciences (specialising in Geology). Since joining APR in September 2019 Rob has worked on a variety of GI projects across reserving, capital modelling and IFRS 17 implementation. Rob used to play rugby to a reasonable standard but injuries, old age and fatherhood increasingly restrict him to lower risk activities such as 5-a-side football and triathlons.

Roger Austin

Roger graduated from Heriot Watt University in 1992 in Actuarial Maths & Statistics, qualifying as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1994. After six years working in a large life insurance company performing roles in a number of areas, Roger joined a company providing business process outsourcing to the financial services sector. Here he held a number of senior management positions including head of quality and technical, and actuarial resourcing director; he also had operational responsibility for a team of 250 actuaries across eight countries. He has contributed to actuarial thought leadership, delivering papers on expert judgement and Solvency II to the actuarial profession within the UK and internationally. He founded APR in 2006 with Gary Heslop, helping to grow the business by developing innovative solutions for clients. Roger has a passion for travel and new experiences, and has been known to try bungee jumping, gorge-swinging and abseiling, as well as participating in the occasional hunt for Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Ross Gordon

Ross Gordon (he/him) Associate Partner Ross joined APR in 2011 after graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Edinburgh. Still based in Edinburgh, Ross qualified as an actuary and CERA in 2015 and has been involved in client projects covering areas such as Prophet model development, Solvency II Pillar 3 and proxy modelling. Outside of work, Ross enjoys playing and watching sport and was once named Most Valuable Player of his university American Football team.

Ross Witney-Hunter

Ross Witney-Hunter (he/him) Actuarial Associate Ross joined the Edinburgh office after graduating with an MMath Mathematics degree from the University of St Andrews in 2021. Having sat two of the actuarial exams while at university, Ross was keen to put some of this work into practice with APR. Out of the office, he is a keen tennis player and runner but manages to find at least a little "relaxation" time with a cryptic crossword now and then.

Sammy Ford

Sammy Ford (she/her) Associate Partner Sammy has been with APR since 2015 and is a qualified actuary and CERA. Over that time she's taken on projects in capital modelling, asset valuation and most recently in financial risk, but undoubtedly her career highlight is being described as a "maths genius" by The Scottish Sun. Within APR she's also responsible for the business's risk management and diversity & inclusion. Outside of work Sammy can be found at her monthly wine and cheese group (which other members insist on calling by its official title, "book club").

Tim Nash

Since graduating with a Classics degree from Oxford University Tim has gained around 20 years' experience in the financial services sector. He joined APR in 2015, having previously worked with Roger and Gary at an outsourcing company, including roles in client account management and interim resourcing. He spent the intervening nine years at a leading benefit consultancy and pensions administrator in a number of operational roles, the most recent of which was Head of Sales Operations. Tim's strengths lie in implementing ideas and overseeing operational change, so as well as assisting in the management of the business he has a particular focus on improving internal and business development processes, with the aim of helping APR to broaden its client and proposition base while providing an enhanced experience for staff and contractors alike. Away from work Tim's passion is for rugby, although his stellar(ish) playing career has now been replaced by occasional shouting at the television.

Tom Coyne

Tom Coyne (he/him) Actuarial Associate Tom graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2010 with an MA in Mathematics. After university, Tom took the opportunity to travel across North America and New Zealand. On returning back to U.K he began working in sales, selling business management software. Tom worked in this industry for 5 years, during which he started studying towards the FIA exams. After passing 4 of the exams, Tom joined APR in January 2020 ready to start his career as an actuary. Outside of work on top of watching most sports, he enjoys playing musical instruments, mostly drums but is also learning to play the guitar, slowly…

Tom Uden

Tom Uden (he/him) Actuarial Associate Tom graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BSc in Mathematics in July 2019 and joined APR's graduate scheme the following January. Tom filled this gap with, among other things, tutoring maths, learning French, and training for and then running a 10k.

Troy Cruickshank

Troy joined APR in December 2016, after completing a PhD in political science at the Australian National University with a focus on electoral behaviour. Having left Australia for the considerably greener and admittedly somewhat damper pastures of Scotland, Troy is now based in E​​dinburgh, where he brings his adaptability, attention to detail and technical skill to his actuarial work.

Will Wright

Will Wright (he/him) Actuarial Analyst Will joined APR in 2020 following a couple of gap years after leaving Cambridge university where he was 1 year into a degree studying maths. During his time at APR Will has been involved with various projects related to data manipulation and is 1 exam away from qualifying as a CAA. In his spare time Will plays "grand" strategy games on his laptop, that he spent far too much on and is already way out of date.

William Richards

William joined APR's London office in 2023 after graduating with a Masters in Physics from the University of Cambridge. He is currently working his way through his actuarial exams. Outside of the office, his eclectic interests include reading, running, theatre and tinkering with computers.

Zuzana Nel

Zuzana is CIMA and AAT qualified account who joined APR as a Financial Controller in 2021. She came to UK from Czech Republic at the age of 17. Before finding her true calling in Finance, she gained experience in retail, hospitality and qualified as a body piercer. Zuzana has over 10 years' experience in managing finance for SMEs within various sectors including Consulting, SaaS and IT. Zuzana loves spending time with her pets, travelling and adrenalin experiences including sky diving and snorkeling with sharks.
