Alasdair was educated at Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Aberdeen, and prior to joining Aitken Turnbull in 2010 gained experience in both public and private sector organisations. Alasdair's experience extends across a range of sectors and project sizes, however his particular areas of interest are in Healthcare and Conservation. Alasdair's Healthcare experience ranges from small scale re-fit works, to larger acute and medium secure units, as well as a number of health centres for Private and NHS Client groups.
As Managing Director Alasdair is responsible for the strategic direction of the practice, working with an experienced Senior Management team to develop and grow Aitken Turnbull for the benefit of our clients and staff.

Educated at Edinburgh College of Art, Alistair joined Aitken Turnbull during his Part I work experience in 1989 and was appointed Associate in 2001.
In over 30 years with the practice Alistair has developed a wealth of experience as a technical leader, he has extensive experience across a range of sectors including Healthcare and Residential projects. Alistair is responsible for the continuous improvement of our technical and production information working with colleagues across the practice to achieve this.
Alistair is also the in-house IT manager.

Anna joined Aitken Turnbull in August 2023 after finishing at Earlston High School. With a strong interest in business, she is keen to gain firsthand experience and practical skills applicable across various industries through her role as Administrative Assistant

Ben was educated at Oxford Brookes University and Edinburgh College of Art and has over 18 years of experience in practice as an Architect. Ben joined Aitken and Turnbull in 2015 as Senior Architect.
Ben is experienced in Healthcare, conservation and ecclesiastical work, private housing, commercial and industrial work, and master planning. He is a design team leader experienced working with both public and private clients.

Britt was promoted to Associate and Design Leader in 2020, having joined Aitken Turnbull as Senior Architectural Designer in our Galashiels Studio in June 2017. Britt is an award-winning designer and has previously held positions with Morgan McDonnell and Zone Architects. She has developed particular skills in sustainable design solutions, including an award winning private residential developments in the Borders. In addition Britt has tutored 4th year students in Design Theory and Practice. Britt is responsible for championing design quality across the practice.

After completing a HND in Architectural Technology, Callum joined Aitken Turnbull in 2004 as a Junior Technician.
Callum has experience in masterplanning alongside bespoke housing alterations and extensions. He has strong skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Photoshop and enjoys working on large 3D models.

David was promoted to Associate and Studio Leader for the Edinburgh Studio in 2020 after 3 years with Aitken Turnbull. David graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2007, going on to become chartered in 2010. In 10 years in London David worked with a number of notable practices gaining experience of projects across a range of sectors and sizes, before returning to Scotland and joining Aitken Turnbull.
David has recently led our involvement in major commercial fit out projects across the UK adding to his experience in Extra Care housing.

Having been brought up in the Scottish Borders Fraser studied Architectural Technology, at Edinburgh Napier University, achieving a BSc (Hons) degree in 2011. After 8 years of being an associate member he became a Chartered Architectural Technologist (CIAT) in 2019.
Fraser joined Aitken Turnbull in 2020 and has over 10 years' experience working in various sectors including commercial, bespoke low energy housing, conversions & extensions.

Gavin has a diverse architectural background, originally trained as an Architectural Technician, before focusing studies at the Mackintosh School of Art obtaining his B.Arch Dip.Arch. With over 20 years in private practice, he has gained experience in various sectors ranging from small scale residential through to large multi-million-pound projects. Gavin spent some time in the United Arab Emirates gaining experience on an international level where he focused on commercial projects.
Gavin currently works within the Aitken Turnbull Living Team focusing on housing projects, ranging from master planning large developments to smaller design projects.

Harry was educated at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Aberdeen. After finishing his Bachelors Degree, he worked at Aitken Turnbull for his Part 1 qualification, gaining experience and knowledge in a broad range of sectors.
Harry has rejoined us upon completing his Masters Degree and is looking forward to developing his existing skill set while becoming a dynamic member of the practice working on the wide variety of projects that Aitken Turnbull are currently pursuing.

James is originally from Rep. of Ireland, studied in Cork Institute of Technology and Napier University, Edinburgh achieving a BSc Architectural Technology and has 18 years experience in the industry.
James is a skilled Technician with a wide range of previous experience in various sectors including residential, education, hospitality, commercial, industrial and leisure.
James has delivered projects to BIM Level 2 utilising Autodesk Revit software in both the Education and Commercial sectors.

Working extensively within the architectural, interior design and commercial fit-out industries, James is an experienced senior leader with a unique set of skills; creative, commercial and a strong leader and influencer. He has built upon these skills throughout his career: initially for 11 years as an Interior Architect and Designer, predominately working for Gray Puksand in Australia, and then as a Workplace Consultant at Haworth and most recently as Regional Manager for Steelcase in Australia.
James is responsible for leading our Galashiels Studio, focusing on providing strategic direction and leadership and on continuously improving our service.
James also leads our Workspace Team, bringing his years of experience with Haworth & Steelcase to our engagement with the commercial and fit out sectors.
His passion is to build lasting relationships with our clients through a highly collaborative, innovative and engaging design process, and ultimately ensure our clients have a great experience.

Having recently finished school Kai joined the Practice in August 2022. Kai attended Earlston High School and completed his work experience with us, before joining our Galashiels office as our Trainee Technician. With a keen interest in developing a career in Architectural Technology Kai is set to gain valuable knowledge from our experienced team and on the job training.
Kai will also be taking part in the South of Scotland Decarbonisation Challenge run by South of Scotland Enterprise, allowing him the opportunity to work with others to develop innovative and net Zero solutions to address some of the biggest issues the region faces, and opportunities it has, in terms of decarbonisation.

Kat joined Aitken Turnbull in 2007 and is responsible for the coordination of our Dumfries office alongside day-to-day administration including finances and supporting technical staff.
Educated to Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) in Psychology, Kat has a varied and diverse background in Business Studies, Book Keeping, Debt Collection and Legal Diligence. Kat also has extensive training in the telephony field as an original ‘GPO trained' bi-lingual Telephonist, in London.

Laura joined the Practice in 2012 and has worked her way up to Associate & Practice Manager. Overseeing the Support Team and business side of the Practice, Laura ensures the smooth running of Aitken Turnbull. Laura became the first non-architectural Associate in September 2023 and is currently studying for her Business Management degree at Heriot Watt under the GA scheme.

After completing a BDes Hons Degree in Interior Architecture and gaining experience working within administration and communications roles, Leigh-Anne joined the Practice in July 2022 as Communications Lead.
Leigh-Anne is responsible for developing & implementing our marketing strategy both internally and externally while driving continuous improvement and awareness of the Practice.

Lorna joined Aitken Turnbull in 2001 as PA to the Directors.
Working from our Galashiels office, Lorna is responsible for assisting the Directors in all matters including scheduling and organizing meetings, handling invoices and queries and responding to clients.
Lorna is also responsible for the day-to-day administration of the office

Mark joined Aitken Turnbull in August 1990 as a trainee and obtained his qualifications during day release courses. Mark progressed to Senior Technician and was then appointed Associate in 2005. In 2019 Mark was promoted to Associate Director and Studio Leader for the Dumfries Studio.
Mark has extensive experience covering a wide range and scale of projects including small domestic alterations/extensions, private and social housing schemes, commercial/Industrial developments and healthcare projects. The services provided also vary from obtaining basic statutory consent to full contract administration and site supervision

Having recently graduated from Heriot Watt university with a BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture, Niamh joined the practice in August 2023 as a Junior Interior Designer. Niamh has previous work experience doing residential design and is looking forward to working on projects within a range of sectors at Aitken Turnbull.

Rachel joined us as an Architectural Assistant in our Edinburgh office in 2014 after graduating from Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen where she gained RIBA Part 2. She completed a Part 3 course at ESALA during 2017 and became ARB registered in March 2018. She has skills in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop & InDesign and has experience across the healthcare, education and residential projects.

Having gained his original qualification in 2003 in Architectural Technology Rob completed an MSC in Architectural Technology and Building Performance in 2018, and joined Aitken Turnbull in 2023. His previous roles allowed him to gain experience working on a wide range of projects including large educational, residential, commercial and healthcare schemes.
Since joining the practice Rob has worked as part of the team on our major commercial fit out projects.

Prior to joining Aitken Turnbull Sebastian spent 11 years in the public sector gaining experience across Community, Education, Sport & Leisure and Cultural sectors. Having started out his career as a trainee technician, Sebastian studied on a part time day release basis initially gaining HND in Architectural Technology at Adam Smith College before studying Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture from 2012 - 2019. Sebastian's skills include AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up and Adobe Design Suite.
