Bill Berry - CTO

Bill has over 30 years' experience in the telecommunications industry and is a leading expert on the use of GSM communications in a machine to machine (M2M) environment, particularly in the electricity industry. He brings valuable experience to the team, both in terms of secure communications infrastructure design and his history of building successful technology and communications businesses. In his early career, Bill managed the Industrial OEM Division at Dataflex Design which was subsequently acquired and grew to over £42m revenue. Seeing the growth in Dataflex and the future opportunities in data communications, Bill led a buyout of the Industrial OEM Division from which he built his company, ASL Holdings. Following ten years of successful growth, ASL was acquired in 2013 by Halma PLC, a FTSE 250 company. Bill remains its CEO under its new ownership.

Brian Shewan

Brian has worked in the Energy Business for 39 years and has held various senior manager roles in the SSE Group. He is a trained power engineer, member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a member of the Institute of Management. An extensive career with SSE led him most recently to the post of Development Manager for SSEPD's Future Networks and Policy team. His leadership roles have also encompassed customer and stakeholder engagement, system automation, energy storage, demand side management, energy efficiency, hydrogen including a range of other smart technologies while engaging with a variety of partners to ensure collaborative approaches. Brian also led SSEPD's successful bids for Ofgem's Low Carbon Network funding (LCNF) for the Thames Valley Vision , I2EV (My Electric Avenue) and SAVE (Solent Achieving Value through Efficiency) projects and was also SSEPD's lead manager on the European Funded Smart Grid project titled DISCERN.

John Wybrew - Chairman

John has had an extensive career in the energy industry. In the late 1970s, he managed Shell/Esso's gas production operations in the Southern North Sea before moving to the position of Technical Director of Shell's major oil and gas exploration and production company in Brunei. He then moved to head up the Planning and Economics Division of Shell's E&P Co-ordination in The Hague. In the 1980s, he was seconded for three years to the Prime Minister's Policy Unit as Mrs Thatcher's adviser for energy and transport, returning to join the Board of Shell UK as Planning and Public Affairs Director. His later career included a period of eight years as Executive Director of British Gas and a Director of National Grid Transco (now National Grid). John also served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the UK Energy Regulator, Ofgem, from 2004 to 2012. In 2004, he was also Special Advisor to a House of Lords Sub-Committee inquiry into the security of future gas supplies. He chaired the British Energy Association from 2005 to2007, and still chairs the Foundation for Management Education. Since then, he has had a portfolio of interests, until 2009 including chairmanship of a Government-backed Sector Skills Council set up to anticipate and tackle the skills needs of the gas, electricity, water and waste management industries, for which he was awarded an OBE. Today, he is active on the boards of one or two new and developing businesses in the energy sector. He holds a first class Honours degree in engineering from Cambridge.
