Christabel Gurney is an editor and writer specialising in Southern Africa. She also has extensive copy editing and design experience on publications relating to development economics, small states, gender and HIV/AIDS. She has written numerous papers, leaflets and press briefings, including background papers for South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission and most recently a brochure celebrating Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. She has written about the history of the Anti-Apartheid Movement and has travelled widely in South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique. She serves on the National Executive Committee of Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA).
Imogen Palmer began her career in the medical periodical division of Haymarket Publishing. After 11 years working with Haymarket, Imogen left to develop a new career as a freelance writer and editor. In this capacity she has been involved in a wide range of projects in published and digital media including copywriting, editing, providing news/features and a range of marketing services. Clients have included The British Council, Ft.com, Haymarket Publishing and the The Library Association.

Jane Belton is a freelance editor and writer specialising in international development issues. She has five years experience of editing and writing in a range of NGO and academic contexts. She also worked for six years in programme management for EveryChild and TB Alert, focusing on projects in Africa, India, and Latin America. Her editing and writing work ranges from short articles to extensive reports, targeted at a variety of specialist and non-specialist audiences. Clients have included Plan International, Progressio, and VSO. Jane's particular areas of interest include health (especially maternal health, HIV/AIDS and TB), gender, community development, and children and young people.
Jane Lanigan is editors4change's founder and director. She has more than 15 years' experience as an editor, writer and project manager in and for the international development sector. After leaving university with an MA (Hons) in Economics and Politics, she volunteered with an economic development NGO in India and went on to work for Intermediate Technology Publications (part of the Intermediate Technology Development Group, now Practical Action) before going freelance in 1996. Since establishing editors4change she has continued to work on editorial and writing assignments in addition to running the company. She specialises in economic development, public services financing, small enterprise development, micro-credit and finance, and trade and globalisation.
Joanna Stephens has been working since 2003 as a writer and editor in the public sector, publishing online articles for the government education website TeacherNet and preparing the launch of the government-wide multi-site infrastructure Schoolsweb. She is one of the early members of Scroll Llp and has written, edited and broadcast in news and arts media, museums, publishing and worked in arts administration. From 1988-2001 she lectured at Paris III, La Sorbonne Nouvelle, Oxford University, Warwick University, Trinity College, Dublin, Harvard University and University College Dublin publishing academic papers on English, French and Italian literature.
Kim Daniel has been working as an editor in the not-for-profit sector since 1990, when she joined the staff of Intermediate Technology Publications, part of Intermediate Technology Development Group (now Practical Action). Before that she worked in-house for A&C Black (Publishers) and Thorsons. Since going freelance in 1998 she has worked mainly on-screen on a variety of materials, including illustrated training manuals (e.g. Training for Transformation), case studies (Hands On - It Works), journals (Small World, Your Voice) and reports (‘A Review of Intergenerational Practice in the UK', ‘Democratising Technology: Reclaiming science for sustainable development'). She specialises in practical instructional and discursive materials.
Liz Bates is an energy specialist with a particular focus on household energy. From 1999 to 2007 she managed projects for the NGO Practical Action on indoor smoke alleviation and their socio-economic impacts on people living in poverty. Currently she is working as an independent consultant; her work includes providing technical briefs and responses on energy related issues for Practical Action. She has published several papers on indoor air pollution and is co-moderator of the HEDON Household Energy Network Special Interest Group CleanAirSIG. Liz was editor of the household energy journal ‘Boiling Point' for around nine years (to 2006), with responsibility for sourcing material, editing and budget.
Louise Hunt is a freelance writer with 13 years' experience in magazine journalism. She specialises in health and social care issues, writing for public sector titles such as the Society Guardian, Community Care and Health Service Journal. Before going freelance in 2006, Louise was a news editor at Emap. She also has experience of working for the NGO sector, having volunteered as a press officer and media capacity builder for a community development organisation in the Solomon Islands, which involved developing media training packages for staff, writing press releases and editing a newsletter. Her current work includes writing features on diverse subjects - from treatment of asylum seekers in detention centres to children's mental health - undertaking news shifts, copyediting and proof-reading.
Ros Patching has been writing and editing since 1986. She specialises in international development, teaching and learning, environmental and conservation issues and adapting complex, technical and academic materials for wider audiences. Ros has worked for ITDG (Practical Action), HelpAge International, The Ramblers' Association and the RSPB. She has written for children and young people on environmental subjects and has created UK education programmes about the Global Dimension and nature conservation. She has written a textbook for South African secondary schools on the major themes in education for sustainable living. Ros also writes training, marketing and promotional materials and has edited exhibition catalogues, instructional manuals, academic texts, special interest newsletters and online content.
Sue is a specialist in food processing and nutrition, with practical experience in several Asian countries. She joined the Intermediate Technology Development Group (now Practical Action) in 1995 as an agro-processing specialist, working on small scale agro-processing for income generation and household security. In addition, she wrote and co-authored a few books and manuals on various aspects of small scale food processing and edited and proof read several others. She also took over the production and editing of the Journal Food Chain. She is currently working as an independent consultant on a range of projects which include providing technical briefs for Practical Action, developing technical manuals for FAO, delivering training courses for ICUC and lecturing at Loughborough University.
