Antonio Ramirez

Antonio manages the STEMed and Laboratory Category at LUPC. He is also responsible for the eprocurement system, electronics, furniture, utilities and veterinary supplies. Antonio's first procurement role was as a supplier co-ordinator for a sourcing consultancy specialising in fully managed reverse e-auctions. Antonio then joined the BBC as one of the category managers for marketing services, and later for professional services. During this time, he covered a mix of tendering, framework management and contact management in areas such as promotional merchandise, fulfilment and distribution, and graphic design services. Antonio worked as a commercial manager for four years at TfL where he implemented their first print management transformation programme and helped embed category management across the business. He then moved into the HE sector, joining Goldsmiths', University of London, firstly as an indirects category manager and later as acting head of procurement for 15 months, before joining LUPC in 2020. Antonio is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS).

Don Bowman

Job Titles:

Don is responsible for the strategic direction of the consortium and leading the team of procurement management and support staff. He is the managing director and company secretary of LUPC, and company secretary of Ensemble Purchasing. Don joined LUPC in early 2016 as LUPC's assistant director (procurement) and was appointed director of LUPC in December 2018. Working in the HE sector since 2011, he was the head of procurement at the University of Kent for nearly five years prior to moving to LUPC. Don has over 20 years' experience in public and private sector procurement with experience gained from a varied career that has seen him working across catering, food production and broadcast sales at the Department of Health and Social Security; House of Lords; Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Skills Funding Agency. Don lives on the Kent coast and is a supporter of Charlton Athletic.

Giorgia Varriale

Giorgia is responsible for stakeholder communications, the LUPC ebulletin, Linked magazine, social media and website content Giorgia Varriale, Communications and Digital Marketing Executive g.varriale@lupc.ac.uk 020 7307 2771 Giorgia joined LUPC in January 2022 having previously held the position of Marketing Lead and School Administrator for the school of Law and Social Sciences at London South Bank University. Giorgia is a Digital Designer experienced in Marketing, Communications and Social Media management. Skilled in producing visual and written multimedia content to enhance audience engagement, following strict brand guidelines and managing brand identity across a range of contexts in the UK higher education and the private sector.

Jasbinder (Bindi) Sandhu

Bindi is responsible for the management of the contracting team and tendering activity at LUPC. Bindi has over 20 years' experience in procurement, having worked for the international section of British Red Cross, in private education and in the HE sector for nearly seven years. Prior to joining LUPC, she was Head of Procurement at LUPC member, the University of the Arts London (UAL). Bindi has experience of working both within and outside the procurement regulations which has given her a good understanding of the benefits and constraints for organisations. She has worked across a variety of category areas. Bindi loves to be creative, whether it's painting, dressmaking, designing or writing. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS Chartered).

Julie Gooch

Julie joined the LUPC team in November 2019, having previously held the position of Procurement and Contracts advisor at Lewisham Homes. Julie's procurement career started in the private sector where she worked in the engineering and retail sectors. During a five-year period, she studied and completed her CIPS qualification gaining MCIPS status. In 2003, Julie moved to procurement in local government, working across a wide variety of categories. She has also completed a four-year apprenticeship in mechanical engineering. Justin McLoughlin

Justin joined LUPC in January 2022. He started his procurement career at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2000. Since then, he has worked in both the public and private sectors including Getty Images, the BBC and, most recently, a stint in central government. Justin has implemented frameworks and contracts for a variety of commodities including creative services, broadcast equipment, PR services, gallery supplies, digital design services and a variety of production-based services for the BBC (all with very specific and challenging requirements). Justin is particularly proud of the work he accomplished for BBC Sport (the Olympics and Sports Personality of the Year) and BBC News (Travel Information Services for local and national radio). Justin's interests include amateur astronomy, travel (Japan being a favourite), baking; he's an aspiring Bake Off competitor, and cinema (Almodovar and a good horror). Mags Shapiro

Job Titles:

Mags is responsible for helping LUPC to implement policy, develop and implement strategy, conduct research and training in responsible procurement. She assists member organisations with embedding responsible procurement within their sourcing processes and supports suppliers to meet rigorous human rights and environmental criteria set against global benchmarks. Mags joined LUPC as Responsible Procurement Lead in May 2023 after moving from South Africa, where she ran a sustainability consulting practice for over 15 years. She has worked with global brands and retailers, consulted and trained for the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and participated in research programmes for Durham and Manchester Universities.

Reece Baines

Reece delivers a professional procurement consultancy and support service to LUPC members, covering all levels of procurement, as required by the relevant member organisation. Reece is an experienced Procurement Specialist, who has spent over 27 years working for leading companies within both public and private sectors. Throughout his career he has taken on roles that have been both strategic and project based. Reece's first procurement role was as a buyer for Motorola and after eight years in Telecommunications, Reece went on to work in a broad range of industries including Oil and Gas, Aerospace, IT, Media, Renewable Energy, Pharma, Banking, UK Research and the NHS. He has extensive Category Management experience and a full understanding of the Procurement lifecycle, from initiation through to BAU. His last appointment was at the NHS in Bristol where he worked as a Procurement Manager, before joining LUPC at the end of 2022. Reece is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS).
