Ayna Narliyeva

Ayna is an international person by definition. She was born in Moscow, raised in Turkmenistan and came to the UK to study in 2003. Ayna has since made London her home and speaks fluent Russian, Turkmen and English. Ayna holds a bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing and Economics, and a master's degree in Business Administration. She previously worked for one of the world's largest organic and handmade foods companies and also has experience in the operations and finance departments of higher education. Ayna joined us in 2017 in the position of Business Strategy, Compliance and Systems. Her claim to fame is that during the London Olympics 2012, she was used as the face of Turkmenistan and a 2-metre portrait of Ayna was displayed in Oxford Street for two months in the summer of 2012. Her portrait was part of the project entitled "The World in London". Ayna loves cooking for her husband and daughters, alongside hosting guests at home and sharing with them her national traditions.

David Durnford-Slater - Founder

Shipping is in David's blood. Early in his career, he worked for P&O, one of the largest UK ship-owners at the time. He has worked in London and beyond, including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo and Aden. In 1981 David founded DSB Offshore Ltd, bringing together a family of expert shipbrokers who have since operated in a great variety of different markets, facilitating the sale and charter of countless offshore vessels. David retired in December 2015, handing over the helm to his son, Roland. He remains very much a part of the DSB family. David has been a trustee at AGE UK, Westminster since 2020.

Sandi Durnford-Slater

Sandi joined the family business in 2014 to help with ‘The Great Barge Project' and quickly became a full-time member of staff. Ten years down the line, although still very much a part of the DSB team, Sandi is now involved only part-time/flexi-time, handling the HR and accounts. Raised on South Africa's Wild Coast, Sandi has lived in London since 2001 and considers herself an Anglo-African. In keeping with the international dynamic of the DSB office, Sandi has dabbled in learning French and Xhosa. Sandi is a doctoral student at City University of London. Now, when not at work doing the DSB ‘books', she can be found with her nose in psychology research instead.

Thom D'Arcy FICS

Thom joined DSB Offshore for the first time in 2008 after graduating from the University of Southampton with a Masters degree in Naval Architecture. He completed the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Professional qualifying exams in 2012 and has been a member of the association ever since. Thom left DSB in 2016 to set sail on the adventure of a lifetime on his 28-foot sailboat. Four and a half years later he returned to the UK having completed a 37,000 nautical mile solo circumnavigation. Thom continued to work for DSB as a consultant during some of this time meeting our long-term clients as he travelled around the world. In the spring of 2022, Thom re-joined DSB Offshore full-time as Director and Shipbroker and specialises in the tug and workboat markets, long-distance towage and heavy lift transports as well as developing new business areas for the company. With his technical background, Thom enjoys getting fully involved with all aspects of a project and the challenge of finding the best solutions and most suitable vessels for our clients' needs. Outside of work Thom still enjoys sailing in his spare time as well as cycling and writing.
