Alan Hughes

Alan's professional experience includes many projects in both graphics and interiors. His particular interest in retail space has initiated commissions from the Courtauld Institute, the Prado and the Uffizi, establishing his role as an international designer with a strong educational background. This includes his extensive work as an external examiner and five years of tutoring at Middlesex University. His particular interests are the principles and philosophy of design; the thesis he submitted for his MA discussed the Sensory Perception of Space. Alan's book "Interior Design Drawing" was published in 2009.

Alex Murrell

After a degree from Exeter University and a subsequent successful career in law, Alex came to study at Inchbald with a view to a career change after developing her own property. Her legal and design education has furnished her with a unique skills set which she applies to her clients and students.

Alex Rainford Roberts

Alex is an alumni of both Cambridge University and Inchbald, where she won the coveted planting design prize. Her early career saw her work with Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist Jo Thompson, as well as leading landscape designer Anthony Paul. In her own practice, Alex has undertaken a variety of commissions across the Home Counties.

Andrew Duff

An internationally recognised garden designer, Andrew has lectured and taught in Russia, Chile, Argentina, Ukraine, South Korea and Japan. Beginning his career with the White Dutton Landscape Architects, he later joined the legendary John Brookes as Associate Designer and Senior Tutor. In 2006 he was invited to join the Inchbald School of Garden Design as Director of the Faculty. Andrew is passionate about the design process; he revels in the justification of every line and the challenges this brings to his studio and his students. His experience in private practice enhances the learning experience of the student group, giving them practical insight into the demands of running a professional studio. Andrew is currently Chairman of The Society of Garden Designers.

Anthony Paul

Anthony has been a landscape designer for more than 30 years and is renowned for his innovative and contemporary gardens which draw on Japanese influences and the landscapes and rainforests of his native New Zealand. His varied and creative use of water, including the formation of lakes and swimming pools, is a particular characteristic of his gardens, which are known for their strong form and architectural planting.

Bert Page

A graduate of Goldsmiths, University of London, where he later became a short-course tutor, Bert joined Inchbald in 2010. Drawing on many years' experience as a commission-based and exhibiting artist, he brings a passion for visual art to the role. Bert's career has seen him become expert in a variety of mediums from the traditional chalk pastels and watercolour to technical drawing and industry-specific design practices.

Corinne Blackburn

Corinne has a degree in fashion and textiles which she followed with a career working for leading fashion designers and retailers, handling pattern and production for the UK and international markets. Corinne came to Inchbald as a career-change student, studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Interior Design, from which she graduated as a prize-winning student. In 2004 Corinne established her own design company focusing primarily on residential properties.

Dan Flynn

Dan is the founder of Gardenlink, the preferred contractor for over 40 leading landscape designers, carrying out projects all over the UK and in Europe. Gardenlink has constructed several award-winning show gardens including three Chelsea Gold Medals, one Best in Show, and was also awarded the President's Award in 2012. Since 2018 Dan has been an RHS judge at RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court, Chatsworth and Tatton Park flower shows.

Federica Barbon

Federica is an interior designer with extensive experience in both the residential and hospitality sectors. She has worked with various well-known design agencies and now runs her own business bringing to reality bespoke detailed interiors for private clients in the UK, Europe and the US.

Gilly Chance

Gilly is a widely-experienced designer and has been the director of Stavedene Ltd since its inception in 1978. Her company provides a complete design service inclusive of all aspects of building, furniture, bespoke and purchased, fabrics and decoration for the residential and commercial market. She lectures regularly at the School, providing clear and comprehensive advice and information on design, materials and running a project. She has been included in the House and Garden Top 100 designers and as a committed professional is an active contributor to BIID.

Jacqueline Duncan - Founder

Prior to founding the Inchbald School, Jacqueline established and managed the Michael Inchbald Studio. Her design work includes residential and commercial schemes and a 60 metre yacht carried out in partnership with Michael. A regular commentator in national newspapers and magazines, she has published three book on interior design. A committed design educator, she founded the School in 1960. She is a Fellow of the International Interior Designers Association, and the recipient of an Award of Merit from the British Institute of Interior Design, an institution that she herself initiated in 1962. In 2013 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to design.

Jo Walker

Jo's degree in interior architecture led her to a career that has seen her complete international work at major design practices across both commercial and corporate projects. Highlight projects have included the design of the new British embassy in Moscow, the Law Courts in Sydney, and the Australian Institute for Music.

Marcus Green

Marcus is a multiple RHS medal winner whose design practice is known for modern London gardens and country gardens in Northamptonshire and the surrounding counties. Marcus is a Member of the Society of Garden Designers and a Member of the British Association of Landscape Industries.

Marcus Steffen

Marcus studied mechatronics at King's College London before becoming a lighting designer and now has over ten years' experience in residential lighting design, as well as undertaking various hospitality and commercial projects through his own practice, the award-winning MS Lighting Design.

Mark Stuart Smith

Mark studied painting and drawing at the Royal Academy schools and holds a PhD in History of Art. He is a regular contributor to Art History journal.

Nesta Morgan

Nesta is a graduate of Inchbald with over 25 years' experience working in design and decoration of residential and commercial interiors and event installations. She won a BBC Vision 2000 award which led to work in art directing, set design and storyboarding in broadcast productions. Her Interior design practice has included both bespoke furniture and lighting design and she has recently had work included at the permanent medicine gallery of the Science Museum. Nesta has collaborated with a range of designers including Kelly Hoppen, Solveig Hill and David Chipperfield.

Nick Williamson

Nick holds a masters in furniture design and has built a successful career in retail design for a variety of major high street names. His body of work has given him a particular understanding of a commercial brief and the complexity of public space. Nick developed an interest in design software and teaches CAD programs including Sketch Up, Vectorworks and various rendering packages.

Piers Northam

Piers is an Inchbald alumni, who also has a first class degree from Durham University. After graduating from Inchbald, Piers took up a position with Derek Frost Associates, a London-based design practice specialising in high-end residential interior and furniture design where his projects ranged from houses in the UK and France to a 40m Mirabella class yacht. He worked with Imogen Taylor and Pierre Serrurier at Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler before establishing his own design consultancy.

Stephen Taylor

Stephen's experience as a fine art graduate and a Renaissance art tour guide in Florence and Venice makes him uniquely suited to teach design history on the architectural design and decoration courses. Stephen has authored several course books for the Open College of The Arts, where he was Academic Chair, and has extensive experience of lecturing in design history in both public and private sectors.

He has lectured at Inchbald since 2014.
