Andy Dodman

Job Titles:

During his 20 years at Barhale, Andy has been instrumental not just in developing the HSEQ function within the business but also in helping to enshrine awareness and best practice in every member of our team. Having spent 13 years as Head of HSEQ, Andy's promotion to Director of HSEQ further expands the remit of his role, additionally taking overall responsibility for wellbeing within the company. Andy originally joined Barhale in 2001 as a senior site agent, before moving into a safety adviser role just a year later. He became Group Safety Manager in 2008 and subsequently led the integration of the safety function into a wider HSEQ portfolio.

Andy Flowerday

Andy has overall responsibility for work winning and strategic development at Barhale in addition to Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Engineering within Barhale. Alongside his Barhale Board positions, Andy is a long-standing board member of the Anglian Water's @one and IOS Alliances and plays a key role in liaising with external customers and stakeholders. Andy has been instrumental in the successful growth of the company over the past 35 years. He has devised and delivered strategic business plans which have seen Barhale develop from a small, specialist tunnelling contractor, to a diverse, multi-disciplinary civil engineering contractor with nationwide coverage.

Anthony Sheppard - Secretary

Anthony Sheppard has been associated with Barhale since it was founded and serves as the Company Secretary. He has considerable experience across the construction industry and also has Non-Executive roles in several other organisations. As a qualified solicitor, he advises on legal issues and chairs the Risk and Audit Committee.

Dennis Curran - Chairman, Founder

Dennis is Barhale's Chairman and Founder overseeing the overall direction of the company. Dennis began his career as a tunneller and used his experience in the Construction Industry to form a successful company that takes pride in the caring and respect shown to its people and the wider community; where safety, integrity and quality are of the utmost importance. Over 35 years later, Dennis' vision and leadership is as integral as ever, to the way in which Barhale successfully operate.

James Haddon

Job Titles:

  • Eastern Regional Director
James is responsible for business operations in our Eastern Region. He ensures our teams in the East deliver against their targets; especially within our two major frameworks with Anglian Water. This involves ensuring our people are fully integrated into the Anglian Water working alliances, guaranteeing collaboration of all partners and the successful delivery of the works. James re-joined Barhale in 2015, having previously worked in several roles within the company from 1988 - 2006. James sits on Barhale's Main Board, in addition to representing Barhale on the Partner Management Groups for both Integrated Main Works Capital (IMWC) and Integrated Operational Services (IOS). James has over 30 years' experience within the civil engineering industry, having worked for both contractors and engineering consultants. His experience has taken him overseas working on globally renowned infrastructure projects for AECOM and UKTI.

James Ingamells

  • Northern Regional Director
James is Barhale's main board director with ultimate responsibility for the Northern Region. In this role, he is responsible for building up the opportunity pipeline, delivering our clients' requirements across our core sectors and ensuring that the region is a sustainable part of Barhale. James has worked for Barhale for 17 years, having previously headed up the IOS (Integrated Operational Solutions) Framework on behalf of Anglian Water in AMP6. He was promoted to our Head of Business Transformation in 2019 responsible for assessing and implementing required change to continually improve our business performance and efficiency across all areas of Barhale. In 2020, he was appointed as the manager responsible for our Northern Region, quickly being promoted to Regional Director in January 2021 and was appointed to the Main Board of Directors.

James Mulchinock

Job Titles:
  • BCS Group Director
James has overall responsibility for Barhale Holding plc's specialist products business, Barhale Construction Services Ltd (BCS Group). BCS Group provides both external clients and Barhale with the manufacture of steel fabrications, the design and manufacture of signage, plant and vehicle hire, the supply of safety and construction products in addition to an in-house training facility. James also covers the Transport Manager role within the Barhale business and holds a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in transport haulage. James joined Barhale as a plant co-ordinator in 1995 before setting up BCS Group in 2004. He has since progressed to the role of Director of BCS Group after leading the business through significant growth in the period since he joined.

Julian Ripley - CFO

Julian joined Barhale in 2011. He is responsible for the financial and commercial activities of the business together with IT and IS. Through these support functions, he is able to coordinate and deliver high quality, accurate and informative financial information, enabling Barhale to make timely and informed management decisions. He also engenders an efficient and cost conscious culture throughout the organisation, to preserve Barhale's competitive advantage and deliver cost efficiency for Barhale Clients.

Mark Wood

Job Titles:
  • Yorkshire Regional Director
Mark has overall responsibility for developing Barhale's portfolio of work in Yorkshire and the North East across transport, energy, water and the built environment. He also leads and supports the successful delivery of projects for Yorkshire Water. Mark took up the role of Regional Director after four years as Programme Director at Keltbray. Previously, he held senior positions at TXM Plant and at Balfour Beatty where he spent 22 years of his career.

Martin Brown - CEO

  • Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) of the Barhale Group
Martin is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Barhale Group of companies. He joined Barhale in September 2021 to lead the strategic direction of the company and to ensure effective implementation of Barhale's business plan. Martin brings with him 30 years' experience in the civil engineering and rail infrastructure, following stepping down after nine years as Managing Director of Keltbray's UK rail infrastructure business. Prior to that he operated as a project director for Balfour Beatty on a number of high-profile rail and infrastructure projects.

Owen Mills

Owen joined Barhale as Engineering Director, with a strong career history in rail and engineering management. His 15 year track record of top-flight engineering know how and knowledge of best in class engineering process are second to none, and he leads implementing a more proactively assured approach to our engineering services across all of our operations. Owen previously spent six years as Head of Engineering at Keltbray's rail division, where his responsibilities included the design and implementation of engineering management processes, maintaining compliance and the promotion of value engineering and design to cost principles. He also had overall responsibility for technical assurance and quality delivery. Prior to this, Owen operated in a senior engineering role for Balfour Beatty on a number of large scale, multi-million pound, multi-discipline projects.

Phil Cull

Job Titles:

Phil has overall responsibility for our Southern Region in addition to our tunnelling activities around the business. He joined Barhale in 2013, bringing with him over 30 years' experience in delivering large infrastructure projects - specialising in tunnelling techniques. Phil sits on our main board as well as our senior management team, providing leadership on securing and delivering works within London and the South East across all four of Barhale's sectors. As Tunnelling Director, Phil has overall responsibility for tunnelling operations throughout the company from cradle to grave, including winning works, delivering work programmes and developing technical solutions. Prior to joining Barhale, Phil worked for McNicholas as their Civils Operation Director delivering civil engineering projects around the UK.

Samantha Barratt

  • Business Development & Communications Director
Samantha is responsible for setting and delivering the business development strategy within Barhale, working in conjunction with the high level business objectives. In this role, she drives the marketing and communications (internal/external) strategy to raise the company's profile and reach our target market and supply chain. Working closely with all our regions and leadership team, Samantha provides a seamless and consistent approach to bringing opportunities into the business. Additionally, she is responsible for managing all Barhale Group branding, media coverage and any press interfaces. Samantha has worked in the civil engineering and construction industry since she graduated from university, having worked for both contractors and design firms. She has experience in working across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa having successfully managed major bids for global projects, in addition to the client relationships and company profile.

Sean Curran

Job Titles:

Sean reports to the main board on commercial, finance and procurement and is keen to maintain the cost conscious professional service that these Departments provide to Barhale's operating regions. Prior to joining the board, he sat within the commercial team centrally and worked across all regions of the business, ensuring commercial compliance and robustness. Previously, Sean spent 10 years with Taylor Woodrow Civil Engineering working on large London civil engineering projects, in addition to his early career at Barhale.
