Callum Ilott

Callum Ilott is one of Britain's fastest racing talents with a strong background in international karting. He had his first drive in a kart just before his 7th birthday and took his competitive novice race licence as soon as he was 8. By 12 years old he had begun to impress the international karting scene by winning the under 16s Formula Kart Stars British Championship and finishing 3rd in the German National Championship (KFJ category). He was selected in late 2017 by Ferrari to join its driver development programme, the Ferrari Driver Academy. After a title-challenging GP3 campaign in 2018, he raced with the Sauber Junior Team in the FIA F2 Championship in 2019. After his 2021 season role as Ferrari's official F1 Test Driver and F1 Reserve at Alfa Romeo ORLEAN, Callum changed gear and became an Indycar driver with Juncos Hollinger. Callum's second season in Indycar in 2023 saw him put his rookie team into a 12th place finish in the Indy 500, and bring them top 5 finishes twice to help Chevrolet win the Engine Manufacturer's Championship. Callum is currently a driver for the World Endurance Championships with Jota Sport.

Evelyn Waugh

The brilliant satirical novelist, Evelyn Waugh, was a pupil at Heath Mount from 1910-17. In his last year he established and edited The Cynic school magazine. Waugh completed his education at Lancing College and Hertford College Oxford. He briefly became a schoolmaster before taking up writing full-time as a novelist, journalist, travel-writer and book reviewer. His most famous works include Decline and Fall, Brideshead Revisted and A Handful of Dust.

James Albery

James Albery is an England and GB Hockey player who was educated at Heath Mount and The Leys, Cambridge. He is an extraordinary talent who has always worked incredibly hard on his game. He was named Hockey Writers' Club Junior Player of the Year Award in 2011 and captained the England U23 side which won a Bronze medal in the Volvo 6 Nations tournament. He was a key member of the GB U21 squad which won the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia and in the summer of 2022 he helped England win a Commonwealth Games medal in Birmingham.

Jodie Williams

Olympic sprinter Jodie Williams has been described as the "sort of athlete every country is waiting for" by former UK Athletics Head Coach Charles Van Comenee. Born in Welwyn Garden City and educated at Heath Mount before joining Queenswood, she is renowned for her early track success. Jodie was the top-ranked British woman over 200m at just sixteen years old. She took both the 100m and 200m Gold at the World Youth Championships in 2009 and was unbeaten over 151 races between 2005-2010. She was twice runner up for BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year. In 2011 she became the youngest winner of the Indoor Championships over 60m since Sonia Lannaman in 1971. At the European Athletics Junior Championships, Williams won the 100 m setting a new personal best and championship record of 11.18 s, breaking the previous record by 0.03 s. She also won the 200m and collected a Bronze for the 4x100m relay. Now one of the UK's most successful young sprinters, she specialises in the 100m, 200m and 400m. In March 2021 Jodie captained the GB and NI teams at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland and won her first major medal, bringing home the bronze for the 400m. In the summer of 2021 Jodie competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. One of eight women to break the 50-second barrier in the 400m semi-finals, she finished 6th in the finals. Jodie and her GB teammates also finished 5th in the 4x400m final - the fastest time by a British quartet in fifteen years. At the 2022 European Championships, Jodie was part of the British 4x400 quartet that ran the second-fastest time ever (3:21.74) by a British Women's team.

Sir Arnold Bax

Sir Arnold Bax studied music at the school in 1897 under Signor Masi before entering the Hampstead Conservatoire. He went on to be a highly successful composer, writing seven symphonies and music for films as well as writing poetry and stories. His symphonic poem Tintagel was among his best-known work. He was knighted in 1937 and became Master of the King's Music in 1942. Our premier choir is named the Bax Choir in Sir Arnold Bax's honour.

Sir Cecil Beaton

Sir Cecil Beaton was a famed photographer, illustrator, diarist and Oscar-winning costume and set designer. Born in London on January 14, 1904, he was a pupil at Heath Mount from 1913 to 1916. He received his first camera age 11 and was taught how to use it by his nurse. Cecil went on to become staff photographer at Vogue and Vanity Fair. He was renowned for his celebrity and society portraits. The main library at Heath Mount is named the Beaton Library in his honour.

Sir Peter Tapsell

Sir Peter Tapsell was a British politician, member of Parliament and Father of the House from 2010 until 2015. He was in parliament altogether for 54 years, contesting 14 elections, and was its longest serving member. Tapsell also enjoyed a long career outside politics on the London Stock Exchange, where he worked for more than 30 years as an international investment adviser to foreign banks. He was knighted in 1985.
