Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens, England's renowned novelist, delighted himself in Cobham and its environs as he loved to walk from his home at Gad's Hill, Higham through Cobham Park to work through the story lines of his novels. The Leather Bottle Inn was immortalised in The Pickwick Papers and was much frequented by the great author himself. Today the pub retains the charm that no doubt attracted Dickens and houses a fine collection of Dickensian memorabilia.

Shorne Wood

Shorne Wood Country Park, Kent's most popular country park, lies to the south of the village of Shorne and is easily accessible from the A2. It affords many good walks and is a perfect spot for the less adventurous with picnic and play areas, trim trail and orienteering, fishing, way-marked trails and there is an Easy Access Trail suitable for prams and wheelchairs. The Visitor Centre, with its shop and café, is an excellent place to start your visit and begin to explore the countryside linked with wider access to Cobham Park and Jeskyns Community Woodland and Greenspace.
