Connor Jones

Connor Jones joined Hailsham as a member of Chambers in June 2023 upon successful completion of his third-six. He accepts instructions across all of Chambers' practice areas both as sole and junior counsel. During his pupillage and third-six, Connor produced work in the fields of medical law, professional liability and costs, as well as in a variety of shipping, aviation, and commercial contexts. Examples include: Settling pleadings, and advices in cases of commercial fraud. Settling pleadings, arbitration submissions, and advices in a wide variety of cargo claims. Drafting advices on a range of jurisdictional issues, including arbitration clauses and those arising under Rome II. Settling pleadings, arbitration submissions, and advices in safe port, off-hire, and other disputes arising from voyage, time, and demise charterparties. Settling pleadings for both claimants and defendants in a wide range of clinical negligence and FAA claims, including those with an international element. Advising on both quantum and merit in clinical negligence and personal injury disputes. Advising on a wide range of insurance disputes including those relating to run-off cover, aggregation, and the liability under the 1976 Limitation Convention. Settling pleadings, and advices in a range of professional negligence disputes. Drafting advices in respect of costs disputes, including disputes concerning litigation funding arrangements and CFAs. Connor regularly appears in the County Courts in interlocutory applications, approval hearings, and trials. He has extensive experience of credit hire disputes. Connor has also settled pleadings and represented defendants in subject access disputes under the UK GDPR. Lee Reynolds

Lee joined Hailsham in 2022 as Second Junior Clerk. He assists with the management and development of barristers' practices, diary management, the distribution of work and fee negotiation. He also oversees general office administration and is the point of contact with key clients in terms of monitoring work-flow. He has previously worked at leading Civil and Family law sets, and passed his BTEC award in Chambers Administration. In his spare time he enjoys watching and playing football, golf and cricket.

Lisa became Chambers' receptionist in 2023 with 20 years' experience working in similar roles for other Chambers. Michael comes from a family who have traditionally clerked barristers. He joined Hailsham Chambers (then known as 4 Paper Buildings) as First Junior Clerk in 1982 and has been instrumental in the development of Chambers over a 30+ year period. In his role as Deputy Senior Clerk, Michael is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the clerking team and for Hailsham's information systems and security. Michael is involved in Chambers' business development activities and takes pride in mentoring junior clerks. Michael consistently receives praise in the legal directories for the quality of the service he provides. Michael is a member of the Institute of Barristers' Clerks (IBC).

Stephen Smith

Stephen Smith has been Chambers' Senior Clerk since 1982, having started working for the set (formerly 4 Paper Buildings) in 1975. He was the youngest senior clerk in the Temple and is one of the most experienced and well-respected clerking professionals in London. In addition to his oversight of the clerking team, Stephen devotes a considerable amount of time to client service and business development. His work has paid dividends and Chambers & Partners have awarded Hailsham Client Service Set of the Year twice, in both 2013 and 2019. Stephen was awarded the Chambers UK Bar Lifetime Achievment award 2022.

Stuart Paley

Stuart Paley joined Hailsham Chambers in 2009 and in 2014 he was appointed First Junior. Stuart commenced his clerking career in 2002 with Monckton Chambers. Stuart works closely with the Senior Clerks. His main responsibilities include the distribution of work, fee negotiation, management of all Chambers listing requirements, and practice development for Members of Chambers. Stuart is the first point of contact for Direct Public Access and Conditional Fee Agreement enquires. Stuart has been recognised in the legal directories for his high levels of client service.

Zoe Gardiner

Zoe is Hailsham's Business Development Manager. She is Chartered Institute of Marketing qualified and has more than 20 years' marketing experience most of which has been gained within a professional services environment including time spent working at Allen & Overy, Charles Russell and Ince & Co. She re-joined Hailsham Chambers in October 2016 and is responsible for overseeing marketing activities as well as working with Stephen Smith on Hailsham's business development and client care programme.
