Andy Mucklow

He has experience of working closely with clients to produce monthly management accounts and provide day to day accounting advice. Andy joined Smith Riches as a manager in 2014. Previously, Andy spent several years as a manager at Perry's, PwC and Nyman Libson Paul, where he qualified in 2001. He has a degree in geography from Leicester University.

Claire Cork

Claire Cork is a manager with the firm, providing audit and accountancy services to a range of clients. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. She assists numerous SME companies with the preparation of their financial statements under UK GAAP, liaising closely with business owners. She also provides a range of bookkeeping services, including the preparation of monthly management accounts under UK GAAP and IFRS. Claire joined Smith Riches as manager in 2012. She previously worked as corporate services manager for Thomas Westcott, where she trained and qualified as a chartered accountant. She has a degree in business administration from Cardiff University.

Daniel Crawford

Daniel is a partner of the firm. His clients include Large Private and SME businesses for whom he provides a range of services, including audit and assurance, accountancy and assistance with tax compliance. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. His areas of expertise include audit and assurance, financial reporting under UK GAAP, and charities. He also has vast experience in the preparation of management accounts, including preparing Excel models to assist clients with both their day-to-day bookkeeping needs and adhoc matters such as the raising of bank finance. He has considerable experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, and is qualified under the ATOL reporting accountants scheme. He also has significant experience of advising professional practices, especially architects and solicitors, including reporting to the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He also has experience across a large range of other sectors, including retail and publishing and technology. Daniel qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1993, having trained with the firm. He became the ninth partner of Smith Riches in 2003. He has a degree in Classics from Aberdeen University.

David Peirson

Job Titles:

David Peirson is the firm's tax partner. He is responsible for all the firm's tax services and provides specialist tax planning and compliance services to businesses, individuals and trusts. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a member of STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). David's practice focuses on UK taxation and how these taxes impinge on clients' affairs at different stages of their lives. His work frequently deals with interaction between UK and overseas taxes and the transfer pricing and other considerations that arise. David advises clients on the UK's residence and domicile laws, in particular in relation to the Statutory Residence Test and the legislation relating to non-domiciles. In relation to the firm's business clients David has advised on the UK's transfer pricing rules, employment taxation including share-based payment, off-payroll working, pensions (including auto-enrolment) and on mergers, acquisitions and management buy-outs. As a member of STEP David is experienced at assisting individuals with the establishment and administration of trusts and in providing assistance to executors on their tax and other obligations following someone's death. David regularly advises clients on the provisions of the CGT Business Asset Disposal Relief and on succession planning for families and family businesses. He advises clients looking to become resident in the UK and those looking to move overseas. David became tax partner at Smith Riches in 2012 having previously trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the firm. Following qualification as an accountant he passed the membership examinations of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and later gained the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (England and Wales). He has a degree in Economics with Mathematics from Durham University.

Edgar Aperghis

Jane Lowden is the firm's managing partner. Her clients include Large Private, AIM and Standard listed and SME businesses and charities. She provides a range of services including audit, accountancy, corporate finance and company secretarial. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. She has a wide range of expertise across audit and accountancy, including the audit of foreign-owned subsidiaries, non-audit services for AIM listed companies and the preparation of consolidated financial statements. She has experience of reporting under UK GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP. Her experience covers a broad span of sectors, including healthcare, natural resources, professional services and technology. She has experience in reporting to the FCA, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and is also qualified under the ATOL reporting accountants scheme. Jane has helped a number of companies prepare the historical financial information required as part of their IPO documents, including assisting companies transition from UK GAAP to IFRS or US GAAP. She provides support to listed entities in the preparation of management accounts, preparation of statutory accounts including liaising with the companies' auditors, preparation of interim accounts for filing as part of listing requirements, technical accounting advice and corporate tax advice. Jane is actively involved in the firm's international network, MGI Worldwide, regularly attending UK, European and global conferences. She is a member of the global Technical Committee and the IFRS specialist group and serves as a board member for the UK and Ireland region. Jane became a Smith Riches partner in 2014 having previously trained with the firm. In 2003 she was awarded the Chris Reay Memorial Prize by the London Society of Chartered Accountants for success in her examinations. She has a degree in mathematics from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Katie Wagstaff

Lois Wiseman

Lois Wiseman is the firm's tax manager, providing tax compliance and advisory services to companies and individuals. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. She often assists newly incorporated companies and self-employed individuals with understanding their tax obligations and registering for the required taxes. For larger companies, as well as providing general Corporation Tax compliance services, she is experienced in preparing Capital Allowance claims. As well as ensuring clients' compliance requirements are met, Lois offers guidance and support in a variety of areas of taxation including: personal and capital gains tax advice; assisting with HMRC enquiries; payroll compliance; and VAT issues including margin schemes, international transactions and property development. Lois trained with the firm and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2007. Following qualification as an accountant she passed the membership examinations of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. She has a degree in Architectural Design from Newcastle University.

Martin Rooney

Martin Rooney is the firm's senior partner. His clients include Listed, Large Private and SME businesses. He is responsible for all services, including audit, accountancy, corporate finance and transaction support. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He has a wide range of expertise across accountancy and audit, specialising in UK GAAP and IFRS, with clients ranging from multi-million pound foreign owned subsidiaries to private entrepreneurial businesses. He also has considerable experience in many aspects of forensic, expert witness and corporate finance work. His experience covers a broad range of sectors, including healthcare, biotechnology, natural resources and professional services, including solicitors and architects. He is experienced in advising LLPs, charities and pension plans. Additionally, he is qualified as part of the ATOL reporting accountants scheme. He has been involved in numerous commercial transactions, providing advice and due diligence. Martin joined the firm as a partner in 1989. Previously, he qualified with Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now part of PricewaterhouseCoopers) where he later worked as a Senior Manager in the UK and a partner in Zambia. He has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Martyn Chilvers

Martyn Chilvers joined as a consultant on 1 July 2018 following the merger of his practice, ‘Martyn Chilvers & Co' with the firm. Martyn is a taxation specialist, with also a strong accounting background. Martyn is a UK Chartered Accountant and a mathematics graduate from Oxford University. He has 40 years' experience in the finance profession, having spent 17 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, the last 6 years as a tax partner in London, before setting up his own practice in 1995. He is responsible for a mix of corporate and personal tax work, often where there is an international dimension. His corporate clients include companies listed on markets outside the UK, as well as owner-managed UK businesses. His personal tax clients include inbound expatriates, non-domiciled individuals and non-residents. Martyn's recent experience has included: devising and implementing a corporate demerger of property investment and trading interests; advising in connection with the conversion to and migration of a new European company, a ‘Societas Europaea', as part of an international tax restructuring driven from Sweden; capital gains advice and tax clearances on a £30m sale of a UK group to an Indian company; assistance with a Management Buyout of a London based professional services firm; and advising on various acquisitions and disposals of UK companies by his US listed clients; and advising and helping a substantial number of inbound expatriates of a large Asian Multinational with their UK tax filing obligations. In addition, over the years he has been called on numerous occasions to provide share valuation advice, in particular for tax valuations and also to assist commercial sale negotiations.
