Abbi Woodroffe

Abbi trained as an actress at Bretton Hall and worked professionally for 10 years, before moving into the music biz, working for ie:music ltd for 8 years - the artist management company who represent Robbie Williams among many other well-known singers and bands. Since having her two children, Abbi has been applying her well-honed project management and organisational skills to all things she can get her hands on and in this case, co-resourcing Practive's leadership development work, alongside her superlative job share partner, Ruth.

Adam Woodroffe

Adam is a Director at Practive. Central to his work is the idea first offered by Susan Scott in her book Fierce Conversations that 'leadership happens one conversation at a time'. Adam supports individuals, teams and organisations who would like some help with having important conversations. He works with people just beginning to lead, through to those at the top of large organisations. The kinds of leadership challenge he might help people with include preparing for job/promotion interviews, making presentations, having tough performance conversations, developing their personal impact, developing their negotiations skills and influencing others to bring about change. Adam's approach to this work acknowledges and cites some of the very helpful leadership theory which is available, and combines this with pragmatic approaches, designed to allow people to ‘try the theory on for size'. Through a process of coaching and experimentation, he helps people develop mindsets, strategies, and behaviours which feel right for that individual, in that context. Adam has worked at all levels and in many functional areas. Private sector work includes law firms, banks, manufacturers, schools, major retailers, premiership football clubs and the Royal Household. He has worked in the NHS from Board to Ward, from Trusts to CCSs to CSUs. For the Senior Civil Service Adam co-designed and delivered the Negotiation Skills courses for DfT, DfE, DExEU, the Board of Ofwat and The Cabinet Office as well as open programmes available across the Senior Civil Service. Adam has also facilitated on cross-departmental programmes for SCS Basecamp and SLS and talent and leadership programmes for Treasury, Home Office and HMRC. Adam has a theatre and television background and has appeared in West End shows and numerous television comedies and dramas.

Alec Nicholls

Over 15 years Alec has built a wealth of experience in the public and private sector as a facilitator and coach, offering leadership and communication skills development through practice. He works with senior leaders in both the public and private sector. Alec's areas of experience include Leadership Development, Consulting Skills, Assessment Centres; Development Centres; Customer Service; Communication Skills; Presentation Skills, Diversity Training, Personal Impact, Storytelling, Crucial conversations and Negotiation Skills. The major input of Alec's work is in allowing and supporting participants to practice the skills they have just be exploring and learning about. Giving participants the opportunity to try out skills in a safe and supportive environment. He particularly focusses on practical based learning, doing it rather than talking about it. Practicing rather than theorising. Alec trained and continues to work as a professional actor and so is able to make the practice feel as close to the real thing as possible. . Performers will rehearse, athletes will train, and musicians will practice. Everyone in their particular field of work can take the opportunity to prepare in the same way.

Alexandria Macleod

Alexandria is a bi-lingual French-English actor, improviser & writer. She has written and directed work for Theatre 503, the Lyric Hammersmith & the Southwark Playhouse as well as being an accomplished improviser and stand up comedian. She completed an MA Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and prior to that she completed an LLB Law from the University of Sussex. She lived in France for 14 years and is totally comfortable running workshops in French with the added of bonus of having a native level of understanding of the French working culture. She is just starting out in her career as a workshop facilitator. She has been training with Practive for the last year, she has also collaborated with other leadership training companies and most recently completed a workshop on "Pitching with Confidence" for a young entrepreneurs charity. Her strength is connecting with younger audiences and appealing to the next generation of managers and leaders.

Alison Temperley

Alison understands and works with the business and emotional influences at work. Her work includes executive coaching, development workshops, programme design, facilitation and lecturing. Her aim is to develop and release the personal potential of individuals, but she brings to this work a background with a strong business focus. Her approach is to support and challenge, working closely with her clients to provide practical development solutions that meet their needs. After taking an Economics degree Alison qualified as a Chartered Accountant and was head of career development for the tax and legal practice across EMEA before leaving PwC in 2001. She now works with executives of large city partnerships, financial institutions, manufacturers, the public sector, NGOs and is a Director of the Praxis Centre at Cranfield Business School. She has an MA in organisational psychology and a particular interest in what is going on underneath the surface for individuals, teams and organisations. She leads the coaching for Cranfield's highly commended bespoke Women's Leadership Programme and is the Programme Director for Cranfield's experienced coaching programme.

Amanda Vilanova

Amanda graduated Magna cum Laude in 2015 from a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Literature and Drama from the University of Puerto Rico, where she received a full scholarship for her academic and artistic merits. She finished her Master of Arts in Contemporary Acting from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2017, graduating with a distinction. She is a trained actress and certified Spanish Teacher with experience delivering one-on-one classes and language through drama workshops. In her native country, she has organized and led public speaking workshops. She has also done volunteer work in underprivileged communities delivering drama and public speaking workshops for children and adults. Amanda speaks fluent Spanish and English is organized, professional and sensitive.

Amy Marston

Amy Marston trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre school and enjoys balancing her working as an actor, writer and director in theatre, TV, film and radio with her work in the business environment. She's worked with many leading directors and movement/voice coaches in the country at the National Theatre and in the West End including Patsy Rodenburg (author of Presence) and Jeannette Nelson. She enjoys transferring this knowledge to her work on impact, presentation and media skills.

Anna Darvas

Anna is a qualified ILM Level 7 coach with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Music from the University of East Anglia. She has worked for the past 20 years as a facilitator and coach in both the public and private sector, combining this with her work as an actress and musician. With extensive experience in feedback coaching, difficult conversations, presentation skills coaching and resilience workshops, she is passionate about flexing people's delivery style - whether their challenge is 1:1 communication or delivering messages to wider teams. She works through facilitating feedback from myself, the individual and the participant group.

Anna Elena Pepe

Anna Elena Pepe is an ICF ACC accredited coach (International Coach Federation), trainer and lead actor facilitator. Anna qualified as a coach at the ICF certified Animas Centre for Coaching in London and she also gained a CPD (Certificate Post Diploma) in Positive Psychology Coaching, Relationship Coaching and in Group Coaching and Facilitation. Anna started her training with a degree in Biotechnology, followed by a PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine from King's College London. Having been a child actor, Anna continued studying dramatic arts at Guildhall in London alongside her research, and also developed an acting career by performing on stage and screen. The combination of her acting and scientific skills were soon noticed as transferable and precious to the corporate world, where she started working as a Trainer and Roleplayer. Over the years she worked for multinationals as Coca Cola, Kraft Foods, Pfeizer Medicals, EY, Trip Advisor, Triumph, Deutsche Bank, Versace and many others. She also developed training programs for academics and PhD Students and worked for FENS (Federation for European Neuroscience Society). She holds dual citizenship (Italian and British) and delivers training programs internationally. Belinda Peters

Bindu de Stoppani

She is bi-lingual in Italian and English and speaks conversational German and French. Her open, fresh and professional style has led her to work with some of the largest organisations, both in the public and private sectors, working and facilitating globally, from Italy to Qatar, the UK to Greece, remaining sensitive to national and cultural differences at all times. Bindu has an ability to challenge, motivate and inspire, whilst remaining personable and connected. Brad Cole

Brad began working life as an actor after graduating from an accredited London drama school in 1986 and has a first class honours degree in Theatre from the University of Surrey. He then worked as an actor in theatre and television for over twenty years and was a drama and comedy script writer for both ITV and BBC television. Since 1998 he has been delivering experiential learning & personal development programs for both public and private sector organisations; researching, writing, developing and delivering original programmes. Key areas of focus have been personal impact and influence, inclusive leadership, trusted advisor and consultancy skills, client engagement and selling skills, performance management, challenging conversations, coaching conversations and diversity and inclusion programmes. More recent programmes have included work for NHS Academy, The Bank of England, National Air Traffic Services (NATS). Brad is CIPD trained in advanced facilitation skills and has a Master's degree in Coaching & Mentoring Practice from the International Centre for Coaching & Mentoring Studies at Oxford Brookes University. Caroline Lennon

She lives in London and also has a base in Dublin.

Christie Jennings

Christie originally trained as actress at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. For the last 15 years she has worked as a facilitator/coach & role player for an extensive range of clients. She specialises in presentation skills, personal impact and behavioural management. She has worked with Practive since its inception in 2002 and was part of the facilitation team for the National Management Development Initiative (NMDI) for the NHS. She continues to work with the NHS at a senior level. Christie also works as a theatre director and is an associate artist of the National Youth Theatre.

Claire Louise Amias

Claire is an actress from the West Midlands and a new member of the Practive team. She trained in Forum Theatre with Augusto Boal while she was studying at Bretton Hall. She has taken part as an actor in forum theatre workshops in a corporate setting, as well as running forum workshops for teenagers and adults within drama classes. She has led corporate training sessions in confidence in leadership for the NHS, as well as led Acting for Confidence evening classes (including body langu age and vocal technique) for adults for Stage and the City, where she is a regular teacher and coach. She also has an MA in Text & Performance Studies from RADA/King's College.

Claire Webzell

Claire works across many business sectors on development and assessment programmes. Her work has involved design as well as delivery, and one-to-one coaching. With Practive Claire has worked extensively for the NHS including, for the Leadership Academy: Top Leaders, Aspiring Directors, Senior Operational Leaders, Frontline Nursing Programmes and the Graduate Management Trainee Scheme. As a Leadership Associate with the Hay Group she facilitated on the Mary Seacole Programme. She is part of the Civil Service Learning Practive team delivering on a variety of courses for Senior Civil servants. She has also worked with leading professional services companies. She last appeared on stage as ‘Mother' in ‘The Railway Children' at Keswick's Theatre by the Lake, and is a member of the therapeutic improvisational storytelling group, Manchester Playback Theatre. She was a lecturer in Voice and Speech for four years at the University of Salford.

Clare Beck

Clare has been an Associate of Practive since 2002. She is a facilitator, expert forum theatre practitioner, impact and business coach. Trained as an actress, she had a parallel career in theatre, television, radio, comedy improvisation and as a voice over artist for over 20 years before making the choice to work solely in Leadership Development. She is also an associate of Korn Ferry, trained in the diagnostic tools: Leadership Styles and Organisational Climate. She has a particular interest in Impact and Presentation Skills, drawing on techniques used by actors to develop performance. Most recently she co-designed (with Christie Jennings) a two day programme for Senior Civil Servants focusing on Women's Leadership: "Find Your Voice". She has also designed and delivered programmes on Delivering Effective PDRs, Coaching, Handling Difficult, Influencing Skills, Vital Conversations, Harassment Awareness, Zero Tolerance - Dealing with Violence, Media Skills… Another focus is enabling the safe practice of challenging conversations 1-2-1 and in small groups. Her approach is to find a balance between appreciation and challenge to enable leaders to make small changes that make a big difference… Clare loves working with Practive.

Daniela Vanasco

Daniela is an EMCC Global accredited Life & Leadership Coach with over a decade of experience in the wellness sector. In addition to being a coach, Daniela is also an actor, voice over actor, certified yoga teacher, Reiki Master, Mental Health First Aider and holds a BA in Biology. In her leadership roles within the wellness industry, she has been responsible for coaching and mentoring new managers and leaders. She developed and delivered several seminars over the years, including how to manage mental health in the workplace, how to effectively communicate & resolve conflict and how organisations facilitate bringing employees back to work after prolonged absence (including a seminar on how organisations return employees to work en masse following lockdown furlough). Daniela is passionate about personal growth, transformation and conscious leadership. Deborah Asante

Deborah Asante began her career as an actor working in Theatre, Radio, Film and TV in the UK and abroad and this grounding has been invaluable in her work as a leadership coach, facilitator and role player specialising in communication skills. She has over 19 years experience working in experiential training and development for executives and professionals across both public and private sectors. Most recently working with senior leaders in the NHS through the NHS National Leadership Academy and the Kings Fund, the Senior Civil Service and Vodafone's Global Leadership program, Inspire. Other companies she has worked for include EY, KPMG and PWC helping consultants develop their consultant skills and develop their selling technique without selling. She's also worked in a variety of different sectors including finance, construction, energy and retail. Through coaching Deborah has helped leaders create a Coaching Culture in various departments within Civil Service and trained Managers to Coach for the Royal Mail earning ILM accreditation through this. She is a certified coach receiving a Diploma with distinction in Personal Performance Coaching through the Coaching Academy and trained as a NLP Practitioner with Richard Bandler. Ian originally trained as an actor until, after a decade in theatre and television, he changed direction, and for the past eighteen years he has worked in training and learning and development. Ian is an experienced facilitator, coach, and actor/role-player. Ian has worked for a wide range of clients across many corporate sectors including financial services, the oil industry, the building and construction industries and the media industry. Ian has also worked extensively with clients from the public sector, such as the NHS. As a role-player, Ian enjoys the challenge of creating believable people with authentic behaviours, and he gets great satisfaction from working with participants, offering constructive, focused, evidential feedback as well as personal coaching, to reach those moments of self-awareness. As a facilitator, Ian believes he has an inclusive and supportive style. James Butcher

Jamie Ripman - Founder

Jamie is a co-founder and Associate Director of Practive. He originally trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and worked for many years as a performer, writer and director in theatre, television and radio. In 1993 he re-trained to become a facilitator, coach and workshop leader and he has now been working in this field for over 25 years. In 2002 he co-founded Practive with Philippa Williams. His expertise lies in helping people to learn through experience, both at individual and group level and his interest is in enabling others to develop and sustain practical leadership skills. In the public, private and third sectors he has designed and delivered a wide range of leadership development events from small group sessions to large conferences and whole development centres. He has facilitated away-day session with Boards, Governing Bodies and System Leaders. He is also a highly experienced Action Learning Set facilitator and 1:1 coach and has worked with leaders at all levels and roles. Jamie is currently a faculty member of the NHS Leadership Academy. As a writer, Jamie has written case studies and scripts for development centres, workshops and conferences and he writes and directs training videos. He is a co-editor and co-author of ‘How to be a nurse or midwife leader' published by Wiley. Jason Traynor

Jason creates a fun and safe learning environment to help delegates try out new skills. He is a highly focused and high-energy individual and brings these qualities into the training room. Jeremy Todd

Jeremy is a Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist with a background in corporate training and as a public speaking coach. After a long career in the theatre, Jeremy transferred his skills to the corporate sector where he works as a presentation skills and personal development coach. Jeremy's experience as both a trainer and a performer give him a unique insight into what is needed to help client's build confidence and overcome anxiety issues. Jeremy works with a wide range of private and corporate clients supporting them through a variety of public speaking obligations including conference speeches, select committees, business pitches and presentations, meetings and social events such as wedding speeches. As well as facilitating and designing training courses for a number of public and private sector organisations, Jeremy has forged a career as a public speaking coach, combining the twin disciplines of the acting world and CBT. Jodine Williams

Joel is a Director and co-owner of Practive. He has worked as a facilitator and coach since 2003. The majority of that work has been in the public sector, including local and national government and the NHS. As part of the Korn Ferry & KPMG consortiums he has designed and delivered programmes for Senior Civil Servants since 2016. From 2015-2020 he led on the Inspiring Leaders programme for senior leaders at Cambridge Assessment - a 6-month global development programme for their top 250 leaders, which included action learning sets and 1-2-1 coaching for all participants. He has coached senior leaders in a variety of organisations and sectors - often at times of change for them personally when they needed time to reflect on, for example, how to step into a new, more senior role.

Lucy is a writer, filmmaker & actor with over thirty years experience. Graduating from The Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama in 1985 with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts. Lucy works extensively across stage and screen, has lectured/guest spoken at several drama schools, universities, directed and been commissioned to write for BA graduates. Lucy also speaks and advocates for the rights of transracial adoptees (Lucy bring one herself). Beats.org is an advocacy group which lobbies for better nuanced representation of British East and South East Asians working in stage or screen industries; Lucy is one of its founding members. Philippa is co-founder and Associate Director of Practive Ltd, a consultancy specialising in the practice of leadership. Philippa set up Practive with Jamie Ripman in 2002 with a vision of creating the best conditions for people to learn through experimentation and practice. Philippa has over 20 years' experience of leadership development, including the design and delivery of whole programmes, individual workshops, small group and action learning set facilitation, Executive team development and one-to-one coaching. She also writes case studies and scripts for conferences. She is a highly experienced facilitator and coach, working with senior leaders across the public and private sector, for example, team development with Executive and cross-system leadership teams, designing and facilitating leadership programmes, running workshops on specific topics and coaching individuals. In her coaching work she specialises in helping people to develop their influence and impact, working with them on how they communicate with others, to understand the impact they have, to build on their strengths and explore ways to extend their range in all situations. She often works with people at moments of transition, helping them to explore their leadership response to their evolving context. After graduating with an English and Drama degree, Ruth spent over 20 years working for the BBC across a variety of departments including Radio Drama, Station Sound, BBC Orchestras and BBC Radio 2. It was within Radio 2 that Ruth became part of the Specialist Music team, delivering high profile live music events in theatres, concert halls, national parks, castles, jazz clubs - and even beaches - across the country. Having worked with many of her musical heroes, and thoroughly enjoyed her time with the BBC, a move out of London led Ruth to diversify and apply her project management and people skills as a freelancer in other arenas, in this case co-resourcing Practive's leadership development work, alongside her peerless job share partner, Abbi.

As a Coach her clients have included members of the senior management team at Breast Cancer Care, the head of talent and organisational management at Cambridge Assessment and several female senior leaders at Bloomberg. She has been a Facilitator for Korn Ferry Hay Group since 2014, leading on several national programmes for them including The Frontline Programme for Nurses and Midwives and The Edward Jenner Programme.
