Amanda qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1999 joining Stephenson Coates 20 years ago. Amanda is responsible for a small portfolio of clients providing accounting and bookkeeping services to a wide range of businesses operating in a variety of sectors. Amanda manages our vat and bookkeeping department.
Amanda is also a Xero expert who can advise and provide training on Xero a cloud-based accounting software for your business.
Ann joined Stephenson Coates in 2003 following their merger with John Marshall and Company. She qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2015.
Ann's expertise is predominantly in personal, capital and corporate tax, as well as all aspects of compliance.
She has a diverse portfolio of clients, including owner managed businesses, property owners and high net worth individuals.
Ann lives in Northumberland with her husband and three children.

Claire is a member of the audit team, focussing primarily on statutory audits of private limited companies. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW in 2018, Claire joined Stephenson Coates in 2023. She has almost 10 years' experience within accounts and audit teams across several regional independent firms.
Outside of work, Claire is a keen traveller and is always saving for the next adventure!
After working for an international firm, Gary joined Stephenson Coates in 1982, becoming Accounts Director in 2023.
Gary has extensive experience working with sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, including some of the firm's larger clients across a broad range of sectors.
Gary enjoys working closely with his clients and adopts a hands-on approach to ensure clients receive proactive advice and the best service the firm can provide.
Jeff started his tax career as a tax trainee with the Saville Partnership in 1989 and left to work for RMT before joining RHK (now Haines Watts) in 1998. Since then Jeff was quickly promoted to assistant personal tax manager and then Tax manager.
He managed the personal tax department with his team dealing with over 800 clients including HNW individuals in the sporting world and their owner managed businesses. Ensuring all their personal tax compliance matters were completed on time. Jeff provided income tax, capital gains tax, tax efficient remuneration extraction from family companies and tax investigation advice.
Jeff has dealt with multiple section 9a tax enquiries both aspect and full, PAYE enquiries and VAT enquiries taking cases to Independent Review and Tax Tribunal. Jeff has also specialised in IR35 (Off-Payroll Working) for a number of clients.
Jeff enjoys keeping fit and a good pint with family and friends.
Jimmy started his payroll journey at Sage in 2015 from being a payroll technician then coach and finally working his way up to manage and process a portfolio of clients. Since then he went on to manage and process the internal payroll for United Carlton before joining Stephenson Coates in 2021.
He manages the payroll department dealing with a large number of companies, sole traders and partnerships administering their payroll, dealing with HMRC and client queries on a varied number of different complexities and pay frequencies.
In addition to the above, he advises on pension enrolment and statutory payments including Maternity/ Paternity/ Adoption pay and Sick pay.
He also handles and oversee the Construction industry scheme dealing with the monthly submissions, advising payments due, verifying the relevant subcontractors and dealing with HMRC.
Jimmy enjoys travelling the world and trying new food.
John has spent most of his professional life in the North East after studying Economics and Accounting at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and spent 20 years dealing with larger concerns before moving into general practice and specialising in the affairs of SMEs and not for profit concerns.
John has wide sector experience and interests and enjoys personal involvement with his clients.

Paul originally trained as an accountant and then changed career to specialise in Taxation. He qualified as a Chartered Tax adviser in 1990. He spent time at Ryecroft Glenton, Grant Thornton and Joseph Miller & Co before joining Stephenson Coates in 1992.
He became Tax Partner in 2002 and Director in 2010. He is responsible for all the firm's Personal and Corporate Tax clients. These vary from partnerships and sole traders to large companies and cover a wide range of business activities.
His extensive knowledge in all aspect of tax matters assists in his comprehensive and straight talking approach in advising clients so that they can make the most of the opportunities within the current tax system. .
After graduating from the University of Salford, Peter joined a north east firm of chartered accountants and took on the responsibilities for all of their non-audit clients. He later joined a large Chinese manufacturing group as financial controller gaining an in-depth experience in importing and exporting. He joined Stephenson Coates in 2007 and has a wide experience of management accounting, Solicitors Regulation Authority reporting and works with a broad range of partnerships, charities and limited companies.
