Philip Blatchly & Son ( Funeral Directors ), founded in 1964, Philip Blatchly first became interested in the Funeral Service at the age of 16. The local Funeral Director, Mr. Harold Kyte, would acquire his labour from the people of the village, to either drive the cars or as bearers, once Mr. Kyte had got you to help once, he would ask again and again!... Philip Blatchly began to help more and more, in the arranging and conducting of funerals, laying out of the deceased in their own home, ( Chapels of Rest were unheard of then ) and as a bearer and driver. Mr. Kyte was getting close to retirement in 1964 and asked Philip Blatchly if he would like to carry on the business, Philip Blatchly said that he would and as they say the rest is history...
