Mark Gurnell is Professor of Clinical Endocrinology in Cambridge where he leads the clinical service. He also serves as Clinical SubDean in the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine.
His clinical and research interests are focussed on pituitary, adrenal and thyroid disorders, with particular interests in acromegaly, TSH-secreting pituitary adenomas and primary aldosteronism.
As head of the Cambridge Endocrine Molecular Imaging Group (CEMIG), he has led the development of novel techniques for functional imaging and overseen the introduction of national specialist PET services for pituitary and adrenal disorders.
He is also recognised as an expert in the management of patients with unusual thyroid function tests.
As a senior member of the Deanery team, Professor Gurnell leads the undergraduate assessment programme in Cambridge.
He currently serves on the Council of the UK Society for Endocrinology, the Education Committee of the European Society of Endocrinology, the Executive Committee of the British Thyroid Association, and the Royal College of Physicians (UK) Specialty Certificate Examinations Board (Endocrinology & Diabetes). He holds a number of senior appointments in medical education and chairs the Board of the UK Medical Schools Council Assessment Alliance. He is joint Editor-in-Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.

Robert Semple is is Chair of Translational Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He also does outpatient clinical work in diabetes and endocrinology for NHS Lothian. In addition to overseeing biomedical PhD training he spends most of his time running a research programme. His research focuses on how insulin signalling and fat tissue work in health, and how this goes wrong in disease. His research starts with, and focuses on people with rare and severe types of disease, often caused by changes in a single gene. To investigate these fully my lab also studies cells and model organisms.

Ruth Andrew holds a Chair in Pharmaceutical Endocrinology at the University of Edinburgh and directs the Clinical Research Facility Mass Spectrometry Core. As a research scientist, she studies steroid hormone action in metabolic disease and how innovations in mass spectrometry can be applied to give greater insight into steroid biochemistry and more broadly lipid biology.
Ruth sits on grant panels for the Chief Scientist Office, FWO (Flanders), and the Commonwealth Commission. She is also a Reviews Editor for the British Journal of Pharmacology, a Specialty Chief Editor for Systems Endocrinology (Frontiers in Endocrinology) and an Associate Editor with Talanta.
After qualifying as a pharmacist in 1990, Ruth studied for a PhD in the field of pharmaceutical analysis, using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry as an approach to profile catecholamines in hypertension. In 1994, she joined the Endocrinology Unit in the University of Edinburgh to develop further interests in mass spectrometry and establish its use in steroid profiling in cardiovascular disease.
