Doug Fraser

Doug joined Gilberts in 2000, having worked previously for a number of large architectural and multi-disciplinary practices involved in the commercial, retail and healthcare sectors. Since becoming a Director in 2005, he has been responsible for numerous residential projects in and around the Edinburgh area, developing Gilberts' reputation for client care and thoughtful design. Out of the office, Doug is a keen runner, gardener and infrequent hill-walker. Memberships RIAS

Douglas Thomson

Douglas joined Gilberts in 1997 from a background of working on commercial projects to take over as project architect on the Apex Hotel. Since becoming a director of Gilberts in 2000, Douglas has undertaken numerous residential projects ranging from individual private commissions to large scale developments. He has also been responsible for the design and delivery of care home and hotel projects. His recent work has focussed on expanding Gilberts workload in Shetland where we have undertaken several commissions since winning a design competition in 2007 for a development of the Hjaltland Housing Association.

George Gilbert

George graduated with a first class honours degree in architecture from the Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh College of Art in 1976. He also holds a qualification in landscape architecture and urban design. He served with J & F Johnston Ltd for an almost continuous period of 16 years, 11 of them as a full equity director, during which the practice rose to a position of No.5 in Scotland. During this period his workload was extremely varied and involved a balance of residential, retail, commercial and industrial projects mainly for national institutions and investment companies. His professional awards include the Saltire Medal for the conservation of 11-13 North Bank Street: Edinburgh and the Concrete Society Award for the redevelopment of High Street/Castle Street: Inverness. He is a founding director of Gilberts with a career objective to constantly improve the performance and reputation of the firm. Hobbies include squash, golf and water colour painting. Memberships Royal Institute of British Architects. Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. The High Constabulary of the Port of Leith.

Kelvin Donaldson

Originally from Dumfries, Kelvin is now a fully-fledged lover of Edinburgh. Despite travelling widely, he still hasn't found anywhere else he'd rather live. Always a city full of great historic buildings & spaces, it is wonderful to see the emergence of modern buildings in this context. He qualified from Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh College of Art) in 1984 specializing in Urban design, and have worked exclusively from his adopted home city ever since. His work experience developed from common repairs and commercial development in the 80s until he formed Gilberts (then Gilbert Associates) with George in 1992. He loves architecture, being an architect and running a business. He wish to see Gilberts expand into new market sectors and to continue building on its reputation for value delivery to create ever more confident, contemporary architecture.
