Alison Metherell

Alison has been with ABL since 2003 working as our Queenstown Office manager and is now based in our Invercargill Head Office. Alison provides an Administration support role to the Area manager, Quantity Surveyor Staff, Construction Supervisors, Project Managers and Foremen.

Andrew McNaughton

Andrew's construction and management experience beyond those in the project section below include: Andy joined the ABL team in 1994 working as a Carpenter and Leading Hand before progressing to the Site Foreman's role in 1999. Andy's strength is site management, liaising on site with staff and subcontractors. Has a strong working relationship with our subcontractors and suppliers and often has a key finishing role. He is conversant in all aspects of contruction and has had vast experience as an on site Construction Foreman. Andy is able to communicate clearly and motivate onsite personnel.

Andy Mathers

Andy has been working in the construction industry for 25+ years. He has worked on residential and commercial sites in a site management role in commercial construction. He takes a hands on approach and enjoys the opportunity construction provides working within ABL and throughout the wider construction industry. He has built strong relationships with our clients, consultant teams and key supply chain partners.

Ben Dyer

Ben has over 20 years experience in the construction industry here in New Zealand in both civil and building construction. He has been involved in many types of construction ranging from commercial to residential builds. He has experience in heritage restoration work, high end fit out, erection of steel framed buildings and all commercial finishing. Ben joined ABL in 2013 as a Site Supervisor and soon progressed through the ranks to become a Site Manager working on the details and how complex construction methodology works on the project coal face. He recently completed works on the Sudima City Hotel and Office Complex, working as part of a 3 man management team. Ben was responsible for the day to day site management throughout the entire project from piling to painting. He was also responsible for liaising with the consultant team and general health & safety requirements (tool box talks, site safety monitoring, etc.) Ben is an approachable site team leader and has great working relationships with our supplier chain partners. He prides himself on his attention to detail and ability to solve complex details with the consultants offering best practise simple solutions which is a great asset during the fit out stage of projects.

Bern Scurr

Bern joined ABL in March 2021 with over 10 year's fulltime experience in Health, Safety and Well-being. Since her commencement with ABL until, end of 2022, Bern has primarily worked on the direct site management of HSW at the ICL CBD project. Through this experience, Bern has proven to be an effective people manager gaining respect of the workers and has built a culture of awareness and a willingness to partake in safe and healthy practices. Bern has a passion for supporting all to work in a healthy and safety manner, by supporting them make decisions based on knowledge and understanding of good practice. Well-being for every worker is equally a priority for Bern and since her employment, ABL has partnered with MATES in Construction to educate and facilitate support for those as required. She has a proven ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines, with a common sense, practical approach to any situation and ability to problem-solve. During her spare time Bern is a volunteer support worker for Victim Support, assisting those in personal crisis in their hour of need. Brad Harper

Brad joined the Amalgamated Builders Limited (ABL) team in 1999 with now 23 years of construction industry experience. He has qualifications in carpentry, quantity surveying and management. Over the years he has worked his way from an onsite carpenter, foreman, quantity surveyor, project manager and now our Southland General Manager. He leads our large Southland operation and is highly respected with exceptional knowledge of project demands and management of all aspects of the construction industry. Brad has an excellent understanding of construction techniques, modern design approaches, building quantities, contract administration and management. His combination of 23 years' construction industry experience, his qualifications and being locally based set him up ideally for his role overseeing our Southland operation. Brad has a passion for building and the Southland Region and you can be assured of his dedication and commitment to you and your construction project. In recent years Brad has had experience working on some of Southlands most iconic construction projects and their results speak for themselves.

Brett has recently rejoined ABL Queenstown. Brett has a proven track record of over 30 years in the Construction Industry. Chris Dowall

Chris started his professional life as a carpenter, completing eighteen years in the commercial and residential fields before retraining as a Quantity Surveyor. Chris joined Amalgamated Builders Limited (ABL) in early 2000 and quickly worked his way up to the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor, aided by his practical experience. Craig started with ABL in 1999 as an Apprentice Carpenter and worked his way up to the position of Foreman. He has a very good work ethic, high standard of workmanship and organisational skills. Craig is a good communicator and works with Clients and Consultants in a respectful and professional manner. Craig is committed to a high standard of Health and Safety. He has a very good knowledge of the Building Code and Regulations as well as keeping up to date with new approved systems. He is also a Licensed Building Practitioner. On the Countdown Mosgiel project Craig took over as Foreman for the last three months of the contract when the existing Foreman left. This was a very difficult situation for anybody but Craig acquitted himself well and brought the project to a close in a professional manner. He adapts well to any situation.
