ALARI - Key Persons
Alberto Ferrante is a research associate at the ALaRI institute of the Università della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland.
He obtained his PhD from Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy) in 2006 and his MSc from Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2002. His research interests are in communication security and security for embedded systems; he has been involved in a number of technology transfer projects with local companies. He published a number of scientific papers and he was invited as TPC member in major conferences such as IEEE ICC, IEEE CCNC, IEEE Globecom, and SECRYPT.

Andreas Dittrich received his Diploma degree in Computer Engineering in 2008 from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering. He was co-organizer of the Forum on Fault-Tolerant Systems in 2011. Prior to that (2006 - 2008) he was a Lead Network Engineer at IT service provider "Planetary Networks", Berlin and a self-employed IT service provider focusing on consulting, planning, deployment and administration of corporate networks in 2001-2006. His research focus is on dependable systems, and more specifically on service network responsiveness, service availability, proactive fault management and stochastic modeling. Daniela Dimitrova is ALaRI Communication Manager. She received her Master of Science Degree in Telecommunication Technology and Engineering, from Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria in 2001, and a Master of Engineering in Embedded Systems Design from the University of Lugano, Switzerland in 2004. Since 2005 she is involved in the organizational structure of ALaRI as responsible for communication and promotional activity of the institute. She collaborates to a number of Federal and EU research and educational projects as responsible for dissemination activity; in particular, she has been responsible for organizing and managing educational and training events as summer schools (AMWAS, AlpEnergy, COMES and etc.), workshops ( CMM, KCES and etc.), tutorials, expositions and EU projects booths during DATE (Design, Automation and Test in Europe) conference.
Daniele Grattarola is a PhD student at Advanced Learning and Research Institution (ALaRI) at Università della Svizzera Italian (USI), Lugano. He received his Master's in Computer Science and Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2017. His research interests include deep learning for change, anomaly detection, and diagnostic of dynamic systems, deep reinforcement learning, and high-performance recommender systems.

Miroslaw Malek is a professor at the Advanced Learning and Research Institute (ALaRI). From September 2012 to September 2018 he was Director of the same institute.
Until September 2012 he was professor and holder of Chair in Computer Architecture and Communication at the Department of Computer Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His research interests focus on dependable architectures and services in parallel, cloud, distributed and embedded computing environments including failure prediction,

Onur Derin received his B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of Bogazici University (Turkey) and a M.Sc. in Embedded Systems Design from the Università della Svizzera italiana (Switzerland). He is currently a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Informatics of the Università della Svizzera italiana. His research interests include self-adaptation and fault tolerance in the context of on-chip multiprocessors.

Umberto Bondi received his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and subsequently (after a previous industrial work experience as Product Manager) an Executive Master in Information Technology (Electronic Design Automation Area) from CEFRIEL (Politecnico di Milano, Italy) in 1999. Since 2000 he is the Program Manager of the ALaRI institute. He has authored or co-authored a number of papers and a patent in embedded systems field. Since March 2004 he belongs to the managing staff of the University Incubator (www.cpstartup.ch ) and since 2007 he is Technology Transfer consultant for the Università della Svizzera italiana (www.ticinotransfer.ch). He actively participated to a number of national and international projects, also as project or work-package co-ordinator.
