Abby Baalman

Abby was born and raised in Brussels, Illinois. While participating in high school sports, Abby was injured and completed her own bout of physical therapy at the Wellness Center in Jerseyville; this is where her interest in physical therapy first arose. Abby graduated from Brussels High School in 2011 and went on to pursue her degree in Physical Therapy. Abby received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri in December 2017. Prior to receiving her Doctorate degree, she completed her undergraduate work also at Maryville University earning a Bachelor of Health Science degree. Abby began work with Alton Physical Therapy in February 2018. Abby enjoys working with patients of all age groups in the outpatient setting especially those with pre and post-operative orthopedic injuries, gross motor development of pediatrics, and preventative and post-injury athletes. She also offers rehabilitative specialty services including dry needling and BPPV treatment. Abby currently resides in Brussels, Illinois with her husband and two sons. She is very excited to be helping residents of her home community with their rehab needs.

Abby Deibel McAfee

Abby was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from St. Louis University in 2011 and became a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2015. Abby is trained in Dry Needling, the Graston technique, and spinal manipulation. After having taught dance classes for 16+ years, Abby has a special interest in rehab for adolescent athletic injuries. Additional PT experience comes from serving as adjunct faculty with St. Louis University's program of physical therapy.

Amanda Hessel

Amanda Hessel spent most of her childhood in Staunton and completed her high school education there. During her time in high school, she experienced a torn ACL while playing soccer, which led to surgery and physical therapy. This incident sparked her interest in becoming a physical therapist.

Andrea Kuykendall

Andrea joined Alton Physical Therapy in 2015. She graduated from Robert Morris college in 2000, where she earned her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Allied Health Information. Previous to coming on board with APT, She worked for BJC Medical Group in Primary Care for the past 3 years. Prior to working in Primary Care she worked in Oncology for 8 years. She has acquired several aspects in the medical field which has included Coding, Billing, Patient Care Tech, Lead Patient Service Representative to her current position at APT. Andrea enjoys meeting new people, spending time with her husband, family and friends. She has many interests and hobbies of gardening, photography, building various things and crafts.

Barb Hayes

Barb received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Therapy from St Louis University in 1985. After graduation, Barb worked for the Alton Center of Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy and The Physical Rehabilitation Institute in Florissant where she gained tremendous experience working with sports related injuries. Barb had 15 years of experience at Riverbend Orthopedics as the Director of Physical Therapy. Barb has attended numerous specialized continuing education courses emphasizing the treatment of BPPV (Begin Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). She also enjoys treating other orthopedic conditions of the upper and lower extremities along with the spine, utilizing manual therapy techniques, including Graston Techniqueâ„¢, and personalized exercise prescription to achieve maximum functional return.

Becky Moody

Becky joined Alton Physical Therapy in 2007. Previous to coming on board with APT, Becky was the front desk receptionist for a local Orthopedic Physician who had retired. Prior to working in the orthopedic office, she worked in the Rehab Department of CHNE. Each of these fields of service has given Becky an insight into some of the details of the inpatient and outpatient sides of rehab care. Becky enjoys meeting new and familiar faces and feels it a privilege to serve in the front desk position at both Hardin and Alton locations. Becky is a mother of five grown children and currently has 13 grandchildren. She enjoys the simple things in life and the occasional trips taken with her husband, Chas.

Blake McAfee

Blake was born and raised in Piasa, Illinois. He attended Southwestern High School during which time he interned with Alton Physical Therapy as a PT Tech where his introduction to the profession began. He attended Maryville University in Saint Louis where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He joined the practice in 2012 and has since had the opportunity to integrate both within the private practice and within a variety of hospital contracts that APT has had the pleasure of working with. His clinical focus is in orthopedics with certifications in Dry Needling, SFMA, and Manipulation. Blake became a partner in Alton Physical Therapy in 2021 with the goal of continuing the long-standing tradition APT has as service based private practice focused on the growth of practitioners and the wellbeing of the communities we serve. His emphasis is on clinical education of both patients and the generations of therapists to come.

Courtney was born and raised in Alton, IL. She has been a part of the Alton Physical Therapy team since 2007. She enjoys all duties of the medical business office but billing is her specialty. She enjoys the personalization that is created with patients. Courtney became office manager in 2022. She enjoys training new staff and helping her coworkers. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Courtney was born and raised in Bunker Hill, IL. She graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 2012 and attended Lewis and Clark Community College after graduation where she received her Associates in Science. From there, she transferred to Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville for the Physical Therapist Assistant program and earned her Associates in Applied Science Degree in May of 2018. Shortly after graduation, she began working as a clinician for Alton Physical Therapy in Jerseyville where she held a job as a tech for 3 years. Working as a tech was a reminder of why she chose to go into the therapy field and being surrounded by a great support system helped.

Debra Wittman

Debra received her Master's in Physical Therapy degree at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa in 1997. Prior to that she attended and graduated with honors at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Kinesiology. Debra began work with Alton Physical Therapy as a physical therapy aide in 1993. Upon finishing her masters she continued working for Alton Physical Therapy at Jersey Community Hospital Physical Therapy Department. Debra is currently the Director and Coordinator of Clinical Educating for physical therapy students. Debra enjoys working in her community where she was raised. She specializes in manual therapy with orthopedic patients especially acute injuries and low back pain, pediatrics, and total joint replacements. Debra takes special interest in treatment for the whole body for your orthopedic/sports clients. She also treats lymphedema. Debra takes pride in her work and strives to excel to improve her patient's daily function. She holds Licensure in the state of Illinois.

Francine Tepen

Francine was raised in Jerseyville, IL. She graduated from Jersey Community High School in 2018. Francine then attended St. Ambrose University and graduated with her B.S. in Exercise Science in May of 2022. While completing her undergraduate studies she worked as a physical therapy tech at the Jerseyville clinic for 4 years. Francine then continued her education at St. Ambrose University to complete her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. She graduated with her DPT in December of 2023. She completed many clinical rotations that included acute care, burn ICU, inpatient neurological rehab, outpatient orthopedics, and pediatrics. Francine enjoys working in an outpatient clinic where she gets to treat a variety of diagnoses.

Haleigh Catt

Halley Schmidt

Halley was born and raised in Staunton, IL and graduated from Staunton High School in 2017. She attended Lewis and Clark Community College where she earned an Associates in Applied Science- Occupational Therapy Assistant in 2019. She has clinical experience with outpatient settings, pediatrics with disabilities, and skilled nursing. Halley is interested in many treatment areas including mental health, pediatrics, upper body injuries, and geriatrics. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, pets and traveling!

Hannah Boeving

Hannah Boeving was born and raised in O'Fallon, Missouri. She attended McKendree University in 2016 to play D2 softball while continuing her education with a Bachelor's of Exercise Science and Sport Performance. She used her degree for two years working as a Personal Trainer at Club Fitness. She loved working one on one with her clients and reaching their personal health goals, but realized she was working around many different injuries with her clients. This made her make the decision to further her education in 2021 and pursue Physical Therapy. She earned her Physical Therapist Assistant degree at Southwestern Illinois College, Belleville May of 2023. Hannah has always had a love for health and fitness while working along side clients/patients to work towards their overall goals and live a better life. Hannah has loved working with Orthopedic patients to get them back stronger and better than they were prior to their injury. Hannah currently lives in Waterloo with her husband, step son, and 2 dogs. In her free time, she enjoys watching sports on tv or attending sporting events, hiking/exercising, and spending time with her friends and family.

Jacob Slusser

Jake was born and raised in Shipman, IL. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1997 and joined the staff of Alton Physical Therapy at Jersey Community Hospital after receiving his Master of Physical Therapy degree from Northern Illinois University in 2002. He has lived in Jerseyville since 2003 and currently resides there with his wife and children. He enjoys outpatient orthopedic physical therapy with his primary interests including athletic injuries and their prevention, low back pain, biomechanical evaluation of the foot/ankle, and rehabilitation of injuries to the knee and shoulder.

Janet Timmermeier

Janet's Business Management career started with the inception of Alton Physical Therapy in 1982 under the ownership of Bill and Kathy Nash. APT was the first independently owned outpatient Physical Therapy clinic in the Riverbend area. In 2010 Steve Schwegel purchased the clinic from Bill Nash. She feels extremely blessed to have been mentored by three exceptional individuals. She proudly assisted with the growth of APT throughout the years. APT currently has seven locations to provide outstanding Physical Therapy services. In 2021 Janet proudly passed her baton to Stephanie Wheeler, Business Manager. She currently works behind the scenes on a part time basis. She has made lifelong friends with her coworkers and is very proud of the successes of APT.

Jennifer Flick

Jenn was born and raised in Columbia, IL. She received her Bachelors of Health Sciences in 2013 from Maryville University where she went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in December 2015. Jenn is trained in Dry Needling, Vestibular Rehabilitation, the Graston Technique, spinal manipulation, and the treatment and management of various pediatric diagnoses including plagiocephaly and torticollis. Jenn's passion for physical therapy began after undergoing an extensive bout of skilled PT for ACL reconstruction following a sports injury in high school. In that time, she learned the profound role PTs play in the rehabilitation process and how formative these relationships can be. She finds great satisfaction in developing a rapport with her patients, empowering them to push past what they once believed possible, and enabling them to achieve their goals. Jenn is excited to bring her skillset to her hometown, offering personalized 1:1 care, and promoting general health and wellness principles. Outside of physical therapy, Jenn enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys keeping up with the local high school sports teams and keeping busy by spending time outside with her husband and two young children.

Jessica Taul

Jessica was born and raised in the Godfrey/Alton area. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in 2017 from Millikin University in Decatur, IL and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2020 from University of Evansville in Evansville, IN. She has worked in the outpatient orthopedic setting since graduating. Physical therapy sparked Jessica's interest when she was a patient at Alton Physical Therapy in high school after a soccer injury. Jessica continued her soccer career at Millikin. Jessica enjoys working one on one with patients. She has a passion for sports related injuries, injury prevention, sports performance, and assisting patients in returning to the sports they love. She also has a special interest in ACL rehabilitation. She is happy to be back with Alton Physical Therapy where it all started for her. In her free time, Jessica enjoys spending time with her friends and family, especially her niece and nephews, traveling, and being active.

Joan Schaefer resides in Piasa, IL with her husband having raised three children. She was born and raised in Jerseyville and is happy to be serving the community there. After being an independent transcriptionist, Joanie joined Alton Physical Therapy at Jersey Community Hospital in 1994. Many changes have taken place through the years, and she continues to enjoy all the aspects of her position as Office Manager of Alton Physical Therapy at Jersey Community Hospital.

After a year of teaching, I got hired on as the secretary here also. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and continuing to keep active by participating in recreational sports such as softball and sand volleyball.

Laura Peterson

Laura was born, raised, and currently resides in Gillespie, IL. She graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Maryville University of Saint Louis in 2018. Throughout her schooling, she worked as a physical therapy tech at both the Staunton and Litchfield APT locations. She completed clinical rotations in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and has 3 years of experience working in the outpatient field with a variety of diagnoses and patient demographics. She enjoys treating post-operative orthopedic patients and helping athletes return to sport after an injury. She loves getting to know her patients, educating them on their diagnosis, and helping them return to their highest level of functioning. When she is not working as a PT she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, running, and traveling, especially to Disney World.

Lauren Hancock

Lauren is now the Assistant Clinical Director where she loves assisting our staff in day to day operations with focus on preserving our unique culture that sets our company apart from others! She is the Site Coordinator of Clinical Education as well as a PTA Clinical Instructor working with all local PT and PTA colleges to schedule clinical rotations and work with students to develop their skills and enhance their learning. Lauren also takes safety seriously being the OSHA coordinator, working to keep her work family safe. Lauren loves working one on one with post-operative and orthopedic patients, helping them on their road to recovery.

LeAnne Bonnell

LeAnne was born and raised in Alton, IL. She received her bachelor's of Health Sciences in 2013 from Maryville University where she went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in December 2015. LeAnne fell in love with the staff and structure of Alton Physical Therapy during her clinical rotations. Right out of school LeAnne spent a year and a half at St. Louis University Hospital where she gained an acute insight into orthopedic, neurologic, oncologic, and other medical conditions as well as gained outpatient experience. LeAnne joined Alton Physical Therapy in June of 2017 and is now a physical therapist and the clinical director at the Alton location. Since joining Alton Physical Therapy, LeAnne has expanded her education in the Graston Technique, manipulation, dry needling, work programs and sports related therapy. LeAnne enjoys one on one interaction with patients, helping patients reach their goals through an individualized and creative approach and providing service to others. Lynette has worked as an Office Assistant in the medical field for 13 years with 9 of those being with Physical Therapy. Marideth Harris

Maredith Harris was born and raised here in Alton. She attended Alton schools and graduated from Alton High School. She holds an Associates in Biology from LCCC and a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Greenville College. She has worked in fitness, wellness and aquatics for more that 10 years, personal training, teaching group fitness, community health, aquatics, lifeguarding and CPR. She decided to back to school to pursue a career in Physical Therapy to further her skills and knowledge for her career in health and wellness. Maredith loved to work with people to better their health, wellness and overall well being through movement, exercise and self-improvement. She graduated from St. Louis College of Health Careers with A.S. in Physical Therapist Assistant in 2016. She worked at a chain of local nursing homes for 2 months before joining the APT team. Morgan Krapf was born and raised in Edwardsville, Illinois. She attended Edwardsville schools and graduated from Edwardsville High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She earned her Associates of Applied Science Degree in May of 2019, finishing the program on the Dean's List. Morgan fell in love with Alton Physical Therapy when she performed a student clinical rotation at the Litchfield location. Sarah Siemer

Sarah was born and raised in Alton and a Marquette Catholic High School graduate. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2010 from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois. Since that time, She has been treating patients in outpatient orthopedics with a passion for vestibular rehabilitation, including dizziness, balance, and concussion, as well as the treatment of neck and low back pain. Sarah joined the Alton Physical Therapy team in October of 2022. Sarah enjoys one on one interactions with patients, tirelessly working to help them meet their goals with highly skilled and individualized treatment programs. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends and family.

Sarah Williams

Sarah was born and raised in Freeburg, IL. She attended the University of Evansville in Indiana for both her Bachelors of Exercise Science and Doctorate of Physical Therapy. After graduation in May of 2021, she returned to this area to work in the outpatient Physical Therapy setting. Since being back, she has started treating pelvic floor dysfunction, like incontinence and prolapse, and is taking multiple courses to learn more about treating pelvic pain. During her clinical rotations in Indiana and Kentucky, Sarah found that she enjoyed treating people with orthopedic and neurological conditions, specifically in the outpatient setting. She's excited by thinking outside of the box for treating these conditions and by the impact these treatment techniques can have in a 1-on-1 patient to therapist setting. She enjoys helping people understand how their body works, and then how to use this knowledge to reduce pain and improve movement. When not at work, Sarah enjoys spending time with family and exploring local areas with her husband. They also enjoy relaxing weekends with their very lazy dog. She looks forward to getting to know more and more people in the city of Columbia and helping to take care of this community.

Savannah Frizzo

Sierra Huelsmann

Sierra was raised in Highland, IL. She received her Bachelor of Health Science degree with a minor in Psychology from Maryville University of St. Louis, MO, in 2021. She also received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Maryville University in December 2023. Sierra will be starting her career as a Physical Therapist in the orthopedic outpatient setting by joining the APT team in December of 2023. Sierra has clinical experience with outpatient and acute care settings. She enjoys treating patients of all different populations but found a passion for pelvic health while finishing her Doctoral studies. She will be pursuing a post-graduate certification in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. Outside of work Sierra enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating, playing softball and sand volleyball, and being around her pets. Stephanie Wheeler

Stephanie joined Alton Physical Therapy in 1998 through her job orientation class at Alton High School. She started as the file clerk and has since advanced through all positions to now be the Company Manager. She received her Administrators Certification from the APTA in 2017. Steve Schwegel

Steve is the owner of Alton Physical Therapy, PC. Steve purchased the clinic from his mentor, William P. Nash PT, in 2010. Alton Physical Therapy was established in 1982 and has delivered a high level of care for greater than 40 years. Steve joined the practice in 1990. Alton Physical Therapy is the most respected and established physical therapy system in the metro-east region. Steve was born and raised in Alton, Illinois. After attending parochial schools for elementary education, he graduated from Marquette High School in 1986. He then attended St. Louis University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy in 1990. Since that time, he has continued to complete yearly continuing education courses. Steve has over 32 years of experience as a physical therapist with an emphasis on orthopaedics. Steve is a member of the Orthopaedic, Sport, and Private Practice Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), which allows him to stay current on the most recent advances in evidence-based treatment options. Steve has been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be mentored by high-level professionals including William Nash, PT, and his parents. His interest in therapy began with several injuries that he incurred with sports in high school. Steven Schahl

Steven was born and raised in Mt. Pulaski, IL. He attended Maryville University in St. Louis, earning his Bachelors of Health Science in 2018 and Doctorate of Physical Therapy in December 2020. He experienced clinical rotations in the outpatient orthopedic, acute inpatient, and home health settings, including at the Litchfield APT location. He decided to pursue physical therapy in high school after rehabbing for 6+ months from a significant knee injury, drawn to the close patient interaction and high activity level aspects of the profession. He especially enjoys treating hip, knee, and ankle injuries as well as the geriatric population, emphasizing self-efficacy and return to the highest level of function. In his free time, he enjoys going on adventures with his wife Katie, finding great cups of coffee, and weightlifting.

She enjoys spending time with her children and reading for relaxation. She is the Assistant Office Manager in our Jerseyville location. Tarah was raised in Jerseyville, IL, where she still resides with her husband and two children. She graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2016. After graduation, she spent several years in an inpatient therapy setting specializing in stroke, brain injury and spinal cord rehabilitation, before relocating back home with Alton Physical Therapy. She now enjoys treating a variety of patient populations ranging from pediatrics, neurological, orthopedic and vestibular.
