Anni Tilt

Anni worked for eight years with internationally-acclaimed Fernau and Hartman Architects, and DEGW - an innovative London-based firm specializing in workplace design - as well as a construction coordinator for a major building contractor in Seattle. With a B.S.E. in Civil Engineering from Princeton University, Anni explored ecological use of wood in construction, taught structures and design, and was awarded the Branner Traveling Fellowship while pursuing an M.Arch at UC Berkeley. Always interested in the intersection of art and science, Anni is a founding member of CASBA, and has served on numerous award juries.

Chloe Lowder

Chloe is our office and PR manager at Arkin Tilt. She grew up in the Bay Area and studied Sociology and Global Information and Social Enterprise at UC Santa Cruz. After college, she spent a decade away from California to become a yoga teacher and international hiking and biking tour guide for Backroads Active Travel. Her travels abroad exposed her to a wide range of building styles and materials that inspired her to investigate the design world. She pursued a job with Arkin Tilt to learn more about humane architecture and climate conscious construction. Currently she is studying for her LEED GA and attending workshops to expand her knowledge in the field. On the weekends, you can catch her tinkering with her motorcycle, sewing a garment or taking a hike with her pup, Marco.

Christina Woodfin

Christina's roots are split between the Great Lakes region of the Midwest and 8 years growing up in the South of France. She completed her Bachelor's of Science and Masters degrees in Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign while working as a research assistant, and spent her summers between classes working in different National Parks out West. Christina relocated to the Bay Area in 2014 to design with natural building materials and focus on award-winning, ecologically-minded residential and community structures as a Project Manager at ATA. Her projects aspire to combine a passion for the outdoors with environmentally and socially responsible designs that inspire users to take care of one another and the world's remaining wild places. Recently, she has been awarded the 2020 Baker Travel Fellowship from U of I for her work with ATA and plans to study and sketch her way through the wilds of Patagonia sometime next year.

David Arkin

David is one of the founders and previous Director of the California Straw Building Association (CASBA). He is past-President of Architects, Designers, and Planners for Social Responsibility (ADSPR) and served for twelve years as a board member of the Solar Living Institute (SLI). He has taught and lectured on the subject of sustainable design for over twenty years. David is a native of Wisconsin and earned his B.Arch from the University of Minnesota. A licensed architect since 1991, he spent four years as project architect and planner with Van der Ryn Architects - most notably on the Real Goods Solar Living Center - and apprenticed with Obie Bowman at The Sea Ranch. While in graduate school at UC Berkeley he also worked with Peter Calthorpe and Dan Solomon, focusing on mixed-use, city and regional planning issues. David and Anni are married and live in a 100-year-old solar and wind-powered home in Albany, CA, where David served as a planning and zoning commissioner for over 10 years.

Devin Kinney

Born and raised in Urbana, IL, Devin came to the Bay Area to complete a bachelor's of Art in Architecture at UC Berkeley. He's worked as a project manager and designer on several ecologically-minded homes and buildings ranging from small residential remodels to large institutional projects. He hopes to continue his architectural career with an emphasis on sustainability. Most weekends you can find him throwing Frisbee for his dog out at the disc golf course.

Kevin Yingst

A proud California native, Kevin was raised in the central valley near the Sequoias to a family of table grape farmers. He moved to Tucson for his B.Arch at the University of Arizona learning sense-of-place design through design/build/fabrication with an emphasis on alternative materials and carbon sequetration. Before Arkin Tilt, Kevin worked in historic reuse, design/build residential, and steel detailing/fabrication. Most weekends Kevin is farmer's market hunting and trying out new seasonal recipes.

Tavi Hillesland

Tavi recently received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with minors in sustainable environments and philosophy. She also studied at the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center, which has a focus on interdisciplinary design for community. Tavi grew up in Mendocino and has an affinity for rural places and sustainable buildings. She loves a good long walk in the woods or the mountains, and cooking healthy and delicious food!

Tom DeVore

Tom is a designer and project manager. He has always been interested in hands-on, holistic processes of design and construction. After studying Industrial Design, he started a furniture and fabrication studio in Cincinnati, crafting products from local, sustainable materials. He moved to the Bay and graduated from UC Berkeley's Master of Architecture program. Thanks to the Branner Travel Fellowship, he had the opportunity to study architecture (and the craft of making it) around the world. Weekends for Tom usually include some salvage shopping, furniture making, and a lot of time at the park.
