ASPIRE is specifically designed for reporting that an event has taken place and providing summary information of that event and for reporting new site information in summary - it is not intended as a substitute for full archaeological reporting of excavations or of surveys. ASPIRE should not in any way minimise the amount and type of information that can be ultimately reported nor should it in any way stifle the adoption of new approaches in site recording or data structure. ASPIRE represents a minimum level of event/site reporting and specifies how data should be formatted and presented for curatorial purposes, it does not represent a template for fieldwork recording per se, nor is it a set of guidelines on how to write a full publication standard archaeological report.
