BDP CONCEPT - Key Persons

Bernard Depoorter

Job Titles:
  • Manager - Landscape Artist
Never reasonable but always well-advised, Bernard is not afraid of anything. He takes up challenges without wasting time and wins bets without showing off. He remains composed at all times and is always juggling several ideas at the same time. Bernard is instinctive and passionate, but also knows how to choose the right risks at the right time. Originally from Belgium, Bernard opened his own firm in Lyon called GREEN CONCEPT just after graduating from the Gembloux school with a degree in garden and landscape architecture. After creating increasingly virtuous golf courses and gardens throughout the world (Lithuania, Egypt, Luxemburg, Turkey, Poland, Morocco…), he presented a daring project in 1998: a 5,000m² natural swimming pool in Combloux, in the department of Haute-Savoie. It was an unprecedented idea: a 100% natural, 100% ecological body of water, open to the public. To this day it remains a benchmark in terms of water quality. In 2009, after ten years of experience in creating alternative pools and having written a book on the topic, Bernard returned to his original profession, that of landscape artist. He took over the Atelier des Jardins, a prominent landscaping agency in Lyon, and brought his wealth of experience. This was the beginning of BDP CONCEPT. Bernard is a man of many travels, on an eternal quest to explore and learn from other cultures, but it is Morocco that floods his heart with joy and inspiration. His great love of this country led him to open a second agency in Marrakesh in order to develop landscaping projects ranging from private gardens to major public walkways. Bernard loves Moroccan culture and never ceases to be inspired by and pay tribute to the landscaping tradition of this country, with its abundance of sunshine and unique species.

Jérôme Simon

Job Titles:
  • Landscape Designer
He has a piercing gaze and the face of a young Hollywood star but don't let that fool you. Jérôme is no newbie and has more than one feather to his cap. This landscape designer has worked closely with Bernard for over ten years and never shies away from a challenge... He holds an HND in Landscaping, has completed a training course in marketing and business management, and is highly skilled with graphics software. He may seem quiet and reserved, but Jérôme is a real go-getter with a sense of ambition. He is a technician at heart and realised soon after earning his degree that he preferred working in the design office than in the field. He specialises in modelling and computer graphics and is unparalleled at providing a first glimpse of projects. Jérôme, a proud native of Villeurbanne, began his career in Lille as a 2D and 3D design manager. Though he gained valuable experience up north, he soon returned to Lyon for a position at GREEN CONCEPT. Jérôme has remained loyal to his home city and to Bernard as well, accompanying him in his bold venture to develop a product he truly believed in: natural swimming pools throughout Europe and the Mediterranean Basin. And then they embarked on the BDP CONCEPT journey together... Since Jérôme is passionate about nature and biodiversity, he can only approach his profession with these sustainable development values in mind and he has a gift for being persuasive in a natural way.

Reda Zaari Jabiri

Job Titles:
  • Engineer
  • Landscape Engineer
Reda talks about his profession with a great degree of tenderness, respect, and above all, modesty. He considers himself lucky and truly privileged to work as a landscape engineer, a job which is anything but commonplace in Morocco! This gratitude pushes him to excel in every project he creates, with a poetic, virtuosic rigour: "Creating a landscape is an art!" He always dreamt of coming to Marrakesh, "the magnetic city," as he describes it. For the city's beauty, the splendour of its environment, and for the challenge it represented for him. "In my opinion the most beautiful landscape projects are created in Marrakesh. I wanted to come here to draw interesting things for large-scale projects," he explains simply. He was impressed by BDP Concept and its philosophy and he applied to work with the company. Bernard knew he would be a perfect fit right away and offered him the job almost immediately! "I remember the first time I saw Bernard, it was a Wednesday. And I started the following Monday," says Reda, with his characteristic attention to detail. He is precise and naturally concentrated, but this does not mean that he is not creative: this genius truly loves drawing and letting his imagination guide him, letting his inventiveness run free in order to find JUST the right idea, "for the right place, at the right time," he explains. His dual nature is perfect for developing projects: great inspiration and a high degree of technical skill! Like Taïb, he graduated from the Hassan II Institute of Agronomics and Veterinary Medicine, where he specialised in landscape architecture. They share the same passion for their profession, the same generosity as a guiding principle in life, and the same sense of honesty. What is his driving force? To live up to his personal expectations (and they are high!) as well as those of others, to learn from those who are more experienced than he is, and to always come up with even more beautiful ideas...

Thomas Rulence

Job Titles:
  • Landscape Architect
Samba, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, Paso Doble… Whether he is expressing his talent on the dance floor or through designs for terraces and gardens, Thomas is meticulous in his work and leaves nothing to chance. His attention to detail makes all the difference. Thomas artfully combines the highest of standards with flexibility. When he is not dancing his way through Europe to participate in international dancesport competitions, Thomas practises two to three hours a day...in addition to working as a landscape architect. This young champion has no qualms about dedicating himself wholeheartedly to his two passions, though it does make for a busy schedule. How does he do it all? His secret is boundless energy and the desire for a job well done in all circumstances. Thomas started out as an intern at Atelier des Jardins in 2004 after graduating from the Gembloux school in Belgium and quickly became an essential part of the team at our Lyon-based firm. After being hired as a landscape artist, he created numerous projects including residential gardens, rehabilitation of green spaces, and urban renewal. Thomas is now a part of the BDP CONCEPT team, where he contributes his enthusiasm and expertise to create gardens and landscapes. He also specialises in small spaces such as terraces; he excels in the art of tiny details that change everything. From his native region of Burgundy, Thomas has kept a love of nature and wooded areas. Don't try to convince him to cut down trees, he will always find a way to avoid it.
