Alan Hoban

Alan is a Director of Civil and Water at Bligh Tanner Pty Ltd, based in Brisbane. He is a civil and environmental engineer who has worked closely with government and industry to establish policy, planning frameworks and technical standards for better urban water management. His expertise includes: integrated water management and water sensitive urban design (WSUD); policy and planning advice; infrastructure planning; development applications and approvals advice; waterway management; flood and stormwater studies; civil engineering; and climate change strategies. With over 25 years' experience, Alan is a progressive, award-winning engineer, skilled in facilitating, training and capacity building. In 2014 Alan was named one of the most influential contributors to the Australian stormwater sector by Stormwater Australia. Most recently, Alan's work has included: Small Creek - an ambitious project to restore 1.6 km of concrete drain into a healthy functioning waterway; watercycle planning for Western Sydney, Townsville and the Fraser Coast; the Yeppoon Foreshore Masterplan; revitalising Noosa Northshore Campground; reviewing infrastructure standards for the Queensland State Government; water sensitive urban design for the Noosa Flexi Learning Centre (which was awarded world's Best New School by Learning Environments International); and leading a water and energy efficiency strategy for Moreton Bay Regional Council. His awards include the Gilbert Vasey Award in Agricultural Engineering, the Queensland Medal for Landscape Architecture (for the ‘Flood of Ideas' community resilience-building project), and ‘The AILA' for his leadership of the Water by Design program. Alan also cofounded Victoria's Flexicar car-share scheme and is a graduate of Social Leadership Australia. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Australia and a sessional lecturer at various universities. Alan studied science and engineering at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated as Dux. Alan was recently awarded Engineers Australia's Queensland ‘Engineer of the Year', 2020.

Alvin Yu

Since graduating in 2013, he has gained an in-depth knowledge of civil and structural engineering, as well as computer skills across a variety of programmes. Alvin has structurally managed projects from the concept design phase to the completion of the construction stage, including conducting comprehensive structural analysis and site inspections to ensure the design and construction is compliant with the relevant Australian Standards and accepted industry best practices.

Ashley Flower is a Principal Civil Designer at Bligh Tanner Pty Ltd. His expertise spans the road, rail, water, sewer, and sediment control divisions, with specialised experience in road projects. With a decade of diverse industry experience, Ashley has an outstanding command of 12D, AutoCAD and SketchUp programs enabling him to visually articulate design concepts, ranging from preliminary to highly detailed. He works interactively with clients to facilitate their comprehensive understanding of design solutions. Recently, Ashley played a key role in ‘The Milton' Apartments development; he designed, documented, and provided construction support to provide utilities (water, sewer and stormwater systems) for the apartments and road upgrades to the surrounding area. Ashley was also involved with the Bunnings Toowoomba development, designing and documenting all external roadworks associated with the sizable project. This demanded the utmost care in designing in and around a plethora of services and heritage-listed assets. Ashley is dedicated to developing a clear understanding of clients' goals and always looks for opportunities to refine designs. Dr Michael Lawrence

Michael is an experienced water quality expert who has worked with many water providers in all aspects of drinking and recycled water management. Key projects include water quality risk assessments, developing operational and critical control procedures, auditing, reviewing and developing drinking water management systems, and community consultation to help explain water management decisions. Michael's background is in research science, specialising in low trace analysis both in the natural and in process environments. Michael has published research covering the environmental fate of micropollutants, and their removal through advanced water treatment barriers. Matt Martin is a Civil Associate Director for Bligh Tanner Pty Ltd in Brisbane, with 15 years' experience in the UK and Australia across a wide variety of projects. His experience includes project managing and engineering large-scale retail developments, road and bridge infrastructure, drainage works, government developments and residential and industrial subdivisions. Matt specialises in stormwater management and drainage design, and has relevant training gained from experience in the international consulting space working on multi-disciplinary projects. Matt has been providing civil engineering input to a large $75m redevelopment of the Hervey Bay Shopping Centre. The project was split into numerous stages and Matt was involved in both the civil concept and detailed design phases. Matt has also worked on complex projects for Logan City Council and the University of Queensland. Working on the $40m Bunnings Keperra project, he was the project manager for the civil and structural services, as well as civil lead for the proposed new store, associated subdivision and external works. Matthew Ennever is a Principal Structural Engineer at Bligh Tanner Consulting. Matthew graduated from the University of Queensland with first class honours. Recently, Matthew has worked on projects that include underpinning the heritage listed Dakota Apartments in Teneriffe, the $35 million renovation of the heritage listed Forgan Smith building at UQ, the $101 million Carrara Sports & Leisure Centre for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, and John Wesley Gardens - a 144 bed aged care facility north of Brisbane. Somewhat departing from his expertise of design, construction and inspection of buildings, Matthew particularly enjoyed his work on the Phoenix Sculpture for Landcom. It was a 14m high steel and aluminium clad sculpture in the middle of a man-made canal. In all of his work, he enjoys seeing materials and structures performing untraditional functions in a variety of environments and situations.

Peadar Scanlan is Principal Civil Designer for Bligh Tanner Consulting, and has been working in the civil engineering space since 2004. During his time at Bligh Tanner, he has contributed to social infrastructure, commercial building, and environmental projects. Specifically, he has more than 15 years' experience in the design and documentation of commercial and industrial site developments, residential subdivisions, parklands, hospitals, schools and learning centres. He uses 12D and AutoCAD packages to design and document roads, earthworks, stormwater, sewer and water projects. As Principal Civil Designer, Peadar is often in a client-facing role at Bligh Tanner, acting as the conduit between the client's design team and our internal designers. His focus is always to ensure the client's outcomes are achieved and objectives are met. He is a creative thinker and diligent designer who has played a key role in many of Bligh Tanner's most innovative projects, and recently coordinated the design for the $160m Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct. Peter Carr

Peter has over 20 years of experience in the commercial glazing industry, working in a variety of roles including project management, estimation and design. Since 2008 he has been a Director and Façade consultant for his own company specialising in producing shop drawings for glazing and cladding contractors. Peter has collaborated on a vast range of building infrastructure projects of conventional and bespoke façade systems such as curtain walls, window walls, frameless planar glazing, roof glazing, aluminium cladding, balustrades and internal glazing partitions. Robert has accumulated 30 years' experience in the façade field, including extensive experience in scheme design and structural analysis, fabrication, assembly, installation and mock-up testing. He has a broad knowledge of glass wall, stick, semi-unitised, unitised, double-skin façade and ETFE membrane system design and characteristics. He is familiar with most materials of curtain walls and residential façades. He began his career as a façade engineer for several well-known façade subcontractors, which enabled him to obtain in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in façade design, fabrication and installation for many different types of façades. He's always been passionate about providing integrated, creative façade solutions that not only meet aesthetic and design requirements, but also are easier to build in a practical way, thus ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects. He has also been involved in façade remedial works and applies knowledge learned from investigating existing buildings to his daily work.
