Dan Bombard

Job Titles:
  • Trading Director

Dan Gallagher - Chief Strategy Officer

Job Titles:
  • Chief Strategy Officer
  • Member of the Executive Leadership Team
Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Dan Gallagher is a mentor of many kinds: a father, a baseball coach, and an industry veteran dedicated to supporting the growth of those around him. He finds the ever-changing nature of digital media and search thrilling, because it means there will always be something new to learn. "No matter how much experience you have, nothing is ever stale. That's straight-up exciting to me." As Chief Strategy Officer at Booyah, Dan's work often focuses on the intersection of innovation and teamwork. He manages a team of Channel Directors that includes leaders in display media, paid social, paid search, marketplaces, organic media, as well as analytics and creative. Together, the team handles big business development pitches, testing and roll-out for new media innovations, growth of emerging channels and platforms, and mapping out agency processes. Dan's leadership approach is direct, and his style of communication tends to be concise. He appreciates those who spend more time doing than saying they'll do something- an idea inspired by his childhood idol, Chicago Cubs Hall-of-Famer Ryne Sandberg: "What always stood out to me was that Sandberg was one of the best, but also one of the quietest players on the field. He let his performance do the talking. And he prioritized the team's success above his own accomplishments." Dan earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Information Systems with minors in Advertising and Journalism from the University of Nevada. In his first post-college job, he helped design a new global website for sales consulting company Miller Heiman, which led to an interest in the inner workings of search results. He realized early that a website's aesthetic wasn't the most important aspect of online commerce and began researching ways to boost website traction with various search engines. "At the time, Yahoo was the big search engine and Google was a rising platform. So I did everything I could to learn about SEO, SEM, and web analytics. I had a knack for it." His talent for search optimization and web analytics eventually led to a position as Senior Search Account Manager at Avenue A (now Razorfish), the top global advertising agency at the time, where he ultimately met and joined an up-and-coming agency called Booyah in 2006. Dan's role at Booyah has grown and evolved along with the company itself, from his early days as Senior Account Manager to his current executive role. In his time at Booyah, he's led some of the company's top-tier accounts, from the early days with Gaiam and Vitamin Shoppe to growth periods with DISH, Teleflora, Gap, and Discover Card. Dan also helped establish new lines of service around programmatic, organic media, creative, and analytics. In 2018, Dan purchased Booyah along with colleague and friend Troy Lerner, with the goal of growing Booyah into one of the largest independent agencies in the country. Dan and Troy shared several priorities that continue to drive business and inform company culture today: a genuine respect for individuals at all levels and in all roles, and a focus on developing lasting client relationships built on mutual trust and transparency. His hopes for the company's future focus on growth for both Booyah and the clients he's built relationships with over the past fifteen years. He intends to take advantage of Booyah's position in the industry to continue to do what they do best, and to learn how to do it better.

"It's fun to mix things up and contribute to fostering a company culture that makes folks proud to come to work." On the weekends, Kevin enjoys going to concerts and playing golf.

Kristopher Knight - CFO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Financial Officer
  • Member of the Executive Leadership Team
  • Booyah in 2013 As a Controller
Thoughtful, observant, and meticulous, Kristopher Knight was born in a small town in Missouri to parents who were both bankers. Perhaps destined to work in accounting (his earliest toys were banking supplies his parents brought home from work), it's no surprise that he grew up to be a successful CFO. "I remember playing with check books, balancing books, making spreadsheets on my dad's computer… I still spend hours doing this!" After earning a B.S. in Business Administration in both Finance and Accounting, Kristopher considered pursuing a career in law before ultimately accepting his destiny as a Chief Financial Officer. He still spends much of his time sorting and aligning numbers in Excel- an activity that continues to bring him satisfaction. He also finds deep fulfillment in family life: He's a proud father of three, and spends weekends with his wife and kids doing whatever crazy activities the kids invent. "My kids are too creative. We prank each other a lot…" Kristopher joined Booyah in 2013 as a controller, a top financial position at the time, and has stuck with the agency through various growth and changes. As the current CFO, much of his time is spent considering risks versus rewards. He's adept at connecting the financial dots across different departments and projects, which requires a good sense of numbers as well as a detailed understanding of how those numbers affect different aspects of the business. Kristopher excels at this type of applied, intuitive balancing. But what initially drew him to the advertising industry, and specifically to Booyah, was its focus on people and relationships. "There's a huge emphasis here on how we treat employees, vendors, clients, strangers, really everyone we encounter. The group's happiness and motivation are important to the leadership, so there's a major human element to this job that doesn't necessarily exist in other agencies. That's what keeps me here." Acting as the company's secretary and treasurer as well, Kristopher's role as Booyah's CFO has evolved to include overseeing aspects of IT and HR in addition to fiscal management. It's not the fiscal or the legal aspects of his work that Kristopher loves the most, however; it's the order. He finds joy in simple things like yard work and taking care of his personal space. He organizes his thoughts before he speaks. He's a genuine lover of rules, because he understands how well-made rules impact the efficiency and functionality of any system. What makes him unique as a leader in his field is that he also knows when to be flexible with those rules. Contrary to the staunch stereotype of the unbending accountant, Kristopher recognizes the importance of flexibility. "There have to be rules and structure for a business to work. But I think part of my job is balancing when to be rigid and when to invite change. You have to adapt to life as it comes, and sometimes ‘the way we've always done it' isn't the best possible way." He has a natural ability to prioritize needs according to varying situations, and the kind of agile intelligence that allows him to thrive in an industry known for constant, unexpected change. "I've learned that it's important to see the people behind the process, and to adapt that process accordingly."

Job Titles:
  • VP of Search at Booyah
A true Denver native, Lynn Fowler is the VP of Search at Booyah and has been with the company nearly a decade. She earned a Bachelor's in Mathematics with a minor in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder and worked in a variety of fields before joining Booyah in 2010. Through her diverse work experience, which includes everything from math-related positions to bartending, she developed an ability to communicate easily with people from all backgrounds and at different levels of experience. A mentor as much as a manager, Lynn has a natural curiosity and an ability to break down complex technical concepts into layman's terms. She's sometimes called "Professor Lynn" because of her exacting yet encouraging leadership style. "I constantly challenge strategists to prove long-standing best practices wrong. I like to encourage others to drive innovation, rather than adopt it." She considers it her job as a leader to develop others into future leaders. Lynn's focus lies on constantly improving the quality of the agency's Search program , including both paid and organic search. As VP of Search, Lynn owns the ongoing training and development of team members, establishes company processes that drive efficiency and scale, and participates in business development efforts. In her time at Booyah, she's had the pleasure of partnering with renowned clients like Discover Card, Unilever, Dish Network, and Sports Authority, developing the kinds of partner relationships that bring satisfaction and pride to her work. But Lynn's real claim-to-fame around the office is her Search expertise, and the exceptional work she's done to evolve the company's Search practice into what it is today.

Troy Lerner - CEO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Executive Officer
  • Member of the Executive Leadership Team
  • Member of the Young Presidents Organization
Whether navigating the nuanced world of online marketing or training for a 60-mile ultra-marathon, Troy Lerner likes challenges that resist shortcuts. He believes in the power of dedicated, step-by-step progress toward a goal. As Chief Executive Officer at Booyah, Troy is a digital marketing expert, and his unique expertise includes a knack for communicating the complexities of his field in practical, accessible language. Those who know him best admire his uncanny ability to find the right words for any occasion- to express good news, bad news, and everything in between in the best possible way. Troy is a true Denver native with roots that run several generations deep. "I live just a few blocks away from my great-grandmother's house. I went to the same high school as my grandparents and parents." Signs of his future career were evident by age ten, when he plastered flyers around the Washington Park neighborhood advertising his lawn-mowing business- much more interested in designing the fliers than in mowing lawns. Troy left Colorado to study Economics and American Government at the University of Virginia, but promptly returned for his first post-college job: a scrappy startup run out of a family friend's basement. As the startup's youngest employee, he was the de facto manager of all things digital, including the advertising. His enthusiasm and tenacity paid off when the founder asked him to become a partner and pivot the company to an emerging new space: website templates. The company grew to over 70,000 customers and was eventually sold to Dealin' Doug (a name well-known to Coloradoans). Following the sale, Troy joined Avenue A/Razorfish, the largest online advertising agency in the world at the time. In 2005, he left Razorfish to start up the agency services division of a small, Boulder-based AdTech company with a down-to-earth team and a funny, memorable name: Booyah. After over a decade as the company's leader (but a W2 employee nonetheless), Troy bought Booyah in 2018 with long-time colleague Dan Gallagher. Troy formed many of the company's current policies from lessons learned in his early startup career: that there's no replacement for action (do something now!), that you can do more than you think you can (if you're willing to try), and that specialization can be overrated (anyone can do what needs to be done). "Booyah is not a startup anymore, but that energy is still here: Figure it out! Get stuff done! Raise your hand and do what you can for the team." An exacting yet approachable leader, Troy motivates his team by focusing on individual strengths and how they play into a winning team. He believes that the best leadership is transparent. "I try to be open about what I know, what I don't know, and how I'm making decisions. I believe this is a team sport, and I want people emotionally committed to the shared outcome of winning together." That transparency is a hallmark of Booyah's client relationships: There is a strong focus on shared information and open, direct communication. "In the early years, online marketing seemed like black magic to people. It's important that we take time to separate real advertising tactics from the smoke and mirrors, talk in a language that people understand, and teach clients what we know and how to apply it to their business." Troy is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and the Denver University Marketing Department Advisory Board. His advice tends to be humble and practical. "My success doesn't come from some big, great idea I had. This business and its success come from the consistent, regular, wake-up-every-day, do-your-work attitude of the people who work here. I care about the quality of my work and about the people working with me, and I try to make the best decisions I can. One foot in front of the other. If you do that long enough, you'll end up somewhere amazing."
