When Brenco first started in 1982, owner, Loren Thoennes was custom thinning 5,000 acres of sugar beets for farmers in the Red River Valley. In 1984 Loren had the idea of turning Brenco (named after daughters Brenda and Colleen) into an industrial cleaning equipment company. The idea of selling cleaning equipment, specifically Kärcher, came to Loren when he was first introduced to the German-made pressure washer at a North Dakota fair. "I spent two days looking at a power washer in the booth next to me". Loren, who had owned pressure washers in the past felt this was unlike anything he had ever seen.
