Aaron R. Kaufman, M.D. is a Harvard-trained cornea and cataract surgeon at Cincinnati Eye Institute. His patient-oriented practice style provides exceptional surgical and clinical care.
Dr. Kaufman's surgical expertise includes cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, LASIK, PRK, pterygium removal and corneal crosslinking for keratoconus. He is currently accepting new patients at Cincinnati Eye Institute's Blue Ash and University of Cincinnati Medical Arts Building locations.
Dr. Kaufman is a Cincinnati native and is a graduate of Sycamore High School at the top of his class. He completed his B.A. and M.D. degrees at Boston University's prestigious seven-year liberal arts/medical education program where he received awards for the top academic achievement in both the undergraduate and medical components. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies.
Dr. Kaufman's ophthalmology residency was at the renowned Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his training with a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at Harvard's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Kaufman has received multiple recognitions including the Resident Excellence Award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a Heed Fellowship from the Heed Foundation, the Norman P. Blair Research Award, the Abelson Family endowed cornea fellowship award, and the Best Clinical Trainee Research Award in Cornea and Refractive Surgery. He is active in clinical research and has published multiple articles in ophthalmology literature.
Outside of work, Dr. Kaufman enjoys quality time with his family. He and his wife, a special education teacher, are foodies and enjoy cooking and trying new restaurants. They also enjoy travel and spending time outdoors.

Alisha Gandhi Kumar, M.D., is a member of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. During her senior year at The Miami Valley School, she was accepted into University of Cincinnati College of Medicine through the Connections Dual Admissions (BS/MD) Program. She graduated summa cum laude with Honors from University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, where she majored in Biology and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She then attained her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kumar completed her ophthalmology residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, where she also served as Chief Resident in her final year. She successfully completed her fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute.
Dr. Kumar has a strong interest in treating glaucoma with medications, laser procedures, and surgery. Her surgical interests include glaucoma tube shunt implants, trabeculectomies, combined glaucoma/cataract surgeries, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. She performs cataract surgery in patients with and without glaucoma. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society. Dr. Kumar has co-authored many peer-reviewed journal articles.
Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Kumar enjoys spending time with her husband, learning new recipes to cook, and working out.

Andre N. Martinez, M.D. completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he graduated Top 10 in his class. He then completed both Ophthalmology Residency and Preliminary Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in 2022 where he was distinguished as Chief Ophthalmology Resident during his final year and received the Outstanding Mentoring and Teaching award. While there, he performed hundreds of cataract surgeries, intravitreal injections to treat macular degeneration, various laser procedures to treat glaucoma and retinal diseases, and has managed numerous ophthalmic emergencies.
Dr. Martinez is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has participated in and published research involving glaucoma and eyelid disease. Dr. Martinez practices medical and surgical comprehensive ophthalmology including management of cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration.
Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time with his family and pets as well as participating in various outdoor activities such as tennis, golf, cycling, and hiking.
Anup Khatana, MD grew up in Detroit, Michigan and completed his undergraduate, medical school and Ophthalmology Residency training at Wayne State University, Kresge Eye Institute Department of Ophthalmology. He served as Chief Resident during his last year at Kresge Eye Institute, and then completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia before receiving Board Certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Khatana joined Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) as a cataract and glaucoma specialist in 2000 and was Director of the Glaucoma Service and fellowship from 2012 - 2020. He became Medical Director of the Cincinnati Eye Institute in 2019. He is a volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, and was voted teacher of the year by his residents here in 2011. He has been selected by his peers to Best Doctors in America since 2001.
Before joining CEI, he spent four years in Kansas City, dividing his time between private practice and academics, serving as Director of the Glaucoma Service and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City and University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He was honored as teacher of the year by his residents there in 1999.
Dr. Khatana uses the latest cataract surgical technology, including the use of toric and multifocal intraocular lenses, to provide the best visual outcomes for patients. He also specializes in the management of various complicated and advanced forms of glaucoma, as well as all of the newer minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. As an investigator in various clinical trials, Dr. Khatana is able to provide his patients access to new drugs and technologies at an earlier stage.

Chloe Khoo, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. Khoo moved to the United States to pursue her medical education, bringing a global perspective to her practice. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she was inducted into the Hobart Amory Hare Honor Society. During her time in Philadelphia, Dr. Khoo completed a year of ocular oncology research under the mentorship of world-renowned ocular oncologist Dr. Shields at Wills Eye Hospital, further strengthening her expertise.
Dr. Khoo completed her ophthalmology residency at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she served as Chief Resident. Upon graduation, she was honored with the Mervin Zimmerman MD Award for Best Resident. She then completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Cincinnati Eye Institute, where she now practices.
As an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Khoo is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists through her work with residents and fellows. She is also an active member of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Her research contributions include co-authoring multiple peer-reviewed abstracts and journal articles, with presentations at national scientific meetings.
Dr. Khoo specializes in the medical and surgical management of diseases affecting the retina, macula, and vitreous, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, complex retinal detachments, macular hole, macular pucker, retinal vascular diseases, uveitis, and complications of anterior segment surgery. Passionate about delivering compassionate, personalized care to her patients, Dr. Khoo's global experiences influence her approach to healthcare, blending advanced techniques with a deep commitment to improving patient outcomes. She sees patients at the Blue Ash, Clifton, and Northern Kentucky offices.
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Khoo enjoys traveling and exploring new restaurants with her husband, a vascular surgeon. She also stays active with reformer Pilates and Lagree fitness.
Dr. Christopher Riemann is a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. He is the vitreo-retinal fellowship director at the Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati and is volunteer associate professor at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Dr Riemann is a member of the Clinical Governance Board of the Cincinnati Eye Institute, is Section Chief for Ophthalmology at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Dr. Riemann was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States as a child. He was raised in suburban New Jersey, obtained an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in 1989, obtained his medical doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1994 and completed ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1999. After completing training, Dr Riemann joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati where he has been in practice for the past 21 years. He is a volunteer Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Dr. Riemann has performed bench and clinical research in the fields of endocrinology, cardiology, and ophthalmology resulting in hundreds of national and international presentations and authorship of over 60 peer-reviewed publications as well as several textbook chapters. He has received the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Senior Honor Award from the American Society of Retinal Surgeons (ASRS) and holds several patents for vitreoretinal surgical devices. He is passionate about, clinical teaching, complex vitreoretinal surgery, advanced surgical techniques, endoscopic vitrectomy, screen-based digitally assisted vitreoretinal surgery, instrument design and development, and multidisciplinary approaches to problem-solving across the fields of biomedical engineering, design, human factor engineering and medicine.
Edward J. Holland, MD is the Director of Cornea Services at Cincinnati Eye Institute and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati. He attended the Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago and trained in Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He completed a fellowship in cornea and external disease at the University of Iowa, and then completed a second fellowship in ocular immunology at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He returned to serve as Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service at the University of Minnesota. He was promoted to the position of Professor and was granted the Elias Potter Lyon Chair in Ophthalmology. He also served as President of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Holland formerly served as the President for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery from 2011-2012. He was also a member of the Executive Committee and now serves as the Program Chair. Dr. Holland was a former member of the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has also served on numerous committees and as the Secretariat of the Annual Meeting for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Holland has served as the Chair of the Eye Bank Association and was the former Chair of the Medical Advisory Board as well as longtime member of the Board of Directors. He is the past President of the Cornea Society and previously served many years on its Board of Directors.
Among other honors, Dr. Holland has been listed in the "Best Doctors in America." He has a national and international reputation for his knowledge and expertise in the field of cornea and external disease. He is frequently invited to give lectures both nationally and internationally. Dr. Holland has published extensively in both basic and clinical research and is the author of over 250 articles in peer review journals. Dr. Holland was the co-principal investigator of the Cornea Donor Study, the largest clinical trial ever conducted in the field of cornea. He has co-edited five editions of Cornea, the most widely read textbook on corneal disease and surgery.

Fred Chu, M.D. is the Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute and Co-director of the Glaucoma Service at the University of Cincinnati. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and was introduced to medicine by his father who was also an ophthalmologist. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University and then returned to St. Louis to earn his medical degree from Washington University. He completed both his General Surgery internship and Ophthalmology residency at Rush University in Chicago. He then completed his fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Chu is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Chu performs cataract surgery and a variety of laser and surgical procedures for the treatment of glaucoma. He sees a wide spectrum of pathology from mild to the most severe and complex. Dr. Chu sees patients at the Edgewood office in Northern Kentucky. He also devotes time to teaching residents at the University of Cincinnati and serves as the Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship at the Cincinnati Eye Institute.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chu enjoys sports, rooting for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with his family.
Haroon A. Chaudhry, M.D. is a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). He was born and raised in New Jersey where his father is an ophthalmologist. He has a Bachelor's Degree from the Johns Hopkins University and a Medical Degree from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He did his Ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University and his Retina fellowship at the Louisiana State University. Dr. Chaudhry has been in practice in the Cincinnati area since 2012 where he exclusively manages diseases of the vitreous, macula and retina.
Dr. Chaudhry enjoys travelling with his wife and their children, playing basketball and biking.
