Clauddell Wright Construction Co, Inc is a local family owned business which has been operating in the Amarillo area since 1958. Clauddell grew up around the construction business and worked in the building of the original barrack buildings of the Amarillo Air Force Base back in 1950. Clauddell was a member of the Amarillo High School wrestling team and was invited to participate in the 1952 Olympic try-outs held in Salina, Kansas. In those days the try-outs were open to at large entries and Clauddell 's first match was against the reigning NCAA Champion. His name was George Layman who wrested at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Clauddell only lasted about 25 seconds but the NCAA Champion took a liking to Clauddell and wanted to introduce him to his coach at Oklahoma State University. The OSU coach was a renowned wrestling coach by the name of Art Griffith. He was in his late 60 's and was known as the Great White Father because of his team meetings and lectures on successful..
